Solution for Gagging Down Premier Protein Shakes
enigmachik replied to skinnyginny's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I like to add a teaspoon or two of instant decaf coffee. Tastes amazing! -
How much salad can you eat?
enigmachik replied to tomato pie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love salad, but I can only eat about a quarter cup before it starts to bother my stomach. The key is to chew really well before you swallow. Enjoy! -
make sure this is what you want
enigmachik replied to Seanja's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do it again in a heartbeat. You cannot cannot cannot judge from the first few weeks alone. Barring any complications, once you're healed up you will be very happy that you got sleeved! -
The law requires you to have a passport/passport card/EDL to cross ALL borders now. Most of the border workers don't really care so you can usually get away with not having one, but get the border agent who is a stickler for the rules and you will cause yourself and anyone you go with a huge headache and a significant delay. And rightly so - you are breaking the law without it. Risk it if you want, but I wouldn't.

I didn't need any kind of converter when I went. I suppose different locations could have different outlets, but I doubt it. All the outlets I saw in Mexico were exactly like the ones we have in the US.

I'm pretty sure my entire problem is that I wasn't smoking Lucky's.

Shoud I be worried?
enigmachik replied to skinnyginny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chances are that you are fine. Just take it easy for a few days. I know of someone who was eating solid foods at two weeks out. I don't recommend that at all, I only mention it to try to alleviate some of your anxiety. The pain was likely because you ate too much, too soon, too quickly, but not because you did any permanent damage. -

Not comparing weightloss to others
enigmachik replied to amytug's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have been a slow loser and my losses have slowed down dramatically over time. Right now I'm only losing about a quarter of a pound a week. Yes, you read that right. But you know what? I'm still losing! And that's what counts. It isn't about how quickly I lose in comparison to anyone else, it's just about the fact that the number on the scale is going down when for years it was only going up! -
Spicy food (African food)
enigmachik replied to Determined_Me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thankfully, I have absolutely no issues with spicy foods. I would be seriously disappointed if I did. -
I am 1 year, 2 months & 18 days post op - so what questions would you want someone to asnwer (slightly different way to approach things)

Are you having a difficult time maintaining? Do you count calories? -
Calling all Vets....
enigmachik replied to Diamondeyed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone recovers at a different pace, but it's quite normal to still be swollen and have difficulties with soft foods at four weeks. You will likely experience a lot of improvement over the next several weeks, but you probably won't feel completely "normal" until close to three months post-op. Hang in there, the worst of it is already behind you. -
Yes, this is completely normal. It will start to get better and better over time. It takes quite awhile, but you will notice steady improvement week after week.

Keeping surgery MY secret
enigmachik replied to CarolinaGurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely understand your desire to keep this a secret. I am also a very private person and I haven't told a soul about my WLS. That being said, if you are having a surgery that requires anesthesia I think you need to let the doctor know. The reason is because after they put you out if they need to intubate you for any reason, they absolutely must know that you had vsg or they could rupture your stomach unknowingly and kill you. -
Bodybuilder under all this fat
enigmachik replied to ArtSong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds so frustrating, but you are amazing! Just keep at it girl! The pounds have got to start dropping again soon. You're probably just building so much muscle and retaining so much water to repair those muscles after workouts that you haven't seen a drop on the scale yet, but I bet even if you aren't losing pounds or inches, that you are looking and feeling better anyway! It's not all about the measurements. Congrats on your hard work and your fantastic stick-to-it attitude!! -
spontaneous hurl.
enigmachik replied to Rycherchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probably ate too much. Especially since you had a little bread. Six weeks out is still pretty early for bread. It takes awhile to learn how much our sleeves can handle and sometimes even though it goes down fine, it's still a tad more than what our tummies can take so it gets rid of it. Since you haven't had a lot of vomiting issues, I suspect you won't have this happen again as long as you're careful. -
Most people lose about a third of their hair after WLS. The good news is that for almost everyone, it grows back.

an ounce of beef jerky is a lot more meat and a lot less water than an ounce of regular beef because with regular beef you are eating all of the water content which doesn't have any protein in it.

Please be honest
enigmachik replied to butterfly_gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pain is really not bad at all. You'll be a little sore and you'll probably have trouble sleeping on the side that your stomach was removed from, but it's not unbearable at all for most people. If your pain tolerance is low, they will give you pain killers so you won't feel it anyway. You can take a deep breath and relax, you will be fine!! -
weight loss halt :(
enigmachik replied to cmedina0454's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is so common that you will be laughing at yourself for ever posting this once you are a little further out. This question is asked almost daily. -
I had that for the first couple of months after I was sleeved. It eventually went away. Hopefully it will for you as well.

Want to hear something insane?
enigmachik replied to IAMLU's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you experienced the whoosh! The theory is that you lose fat from your fat cells, but the cells fill up with water so you don't realize you're losing weight because it's being displaced by water until one day WHOOSH, the water flushes out of your system and you see a huge drop on the scale. I probably didn't explain that very well so I highly recommend googling it -
Will I ever get to wear my underwire bra again?
enigmachik replied to sara-seeking-sleeve's topic in The Gals' Room
Funny, I had forgotten I had this too until I read this post. Yes, it will go away. Underwire bras have a place in your not too distant future. I'm not really sure if that's a good thing as I consider them to be somewhat of a curse myself. lol -
Vets, can you eat 1 taco or only a few bites?
enigmachik replied to Diamondeyed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm about 8 months out and I'm pretty sure I could eat a taco at this point. Honestly there are days that I can eat so much more in one sitting than I could early on that it freaks me out. I kind of miss the days of only a couple of bites because it was impossible to overindulge at that point. It's very easy to do it now. Enjoy your restriction now and use this time to really get a handle on any head hunger issues you might have because if you have them, I promise you they will rear their ugly heads again. -
Try drinking decaf black tea or herbal tea.
