August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
JLOR replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just checked the Unjury packets I have here at home and they say right in them that they contain Milk. So I would you need to find milk free products. I'm having a similar problem with my shakes where I feel really cramped within few minutes of drinking them. I went out last night and bought Lactaid packets to pour in my shakes, but I haven't tried it yet. I'll let you know if it helps. They also have chewable tablets that you take before you eat and it's supposed to help digest the dairy. I'm not having diarrhea though so not quite as bad. -

August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
JLOR replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One of the ways I finally got over the nausea was to stop taking all the pain pills and anti nausea meds. I have a very sensitive stomach and usually need solid food to settle it down when I take medicines. So since I can't have solid foods, I stopped taking the pain meds day 2 and now feel a ton better. There is just not that much pain, so there was no reason I needed to continue taking them. It is just more uncomfortable usually then even painful anyway. Also, I did drink some VERY watered down apple juice and that seemed to help as well. I usually don't drink juice because of reflux, but if I water it down a lot it seems to sit well. Hope this helps! -

August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I was sleeved on Tuesday a di must say the1st 24 hours were the worst I have ever experienced. And I've had a lot of surgeries so that is saying something. But everyone is right once you get past the first day it gets much better. I had dry heaves the first day constantly. The zofran, patch, and protonix never helped. I finally told them no more drugs and let my system just get rid of everything. Now I'm about to go home and u feel a thousand times better. I can't get in a ton of water but I am getting about 30 onces in. I really feel like once I stopped tAking all he pain meds and stuff thT really helped. Hope others don't have these issues because that first day I was really regretting this. But so much better now. -

Tomorrow is the big day! Here's an update on where I am so far. I did the pre-op liquid diet for 3 weeks and lost 18 pounds. I admit it that I cheated by usually eating some Protein at night....the pre-op diet is SOOOO HARD!!! I went from 195 pounds to 177. I'm really hoping my new smaller tummy will make the post op diet a little easier! =) I want to get down to at least 140 pounds, but would love it if I could get down to 125-135 range. We'll see how well my new tool helps with that! Not nervous at all, but I know I'm never going to be able to sleep tonight. Best wished to everyone that is having surgery tomorrow. Good Luck! -
Calling All August 28Th Sleevers
JLOR replied to Ready4success's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually started a week ago just to get a jump on it. But today is my "official" start date. I get liquids only for the next 14 days. I'm doing optifast so 5 shakes a day made with water or 4 if I use milk. Definitely recommend spacing them out every 3 hours and making sure you drink lots of water. Also for dinner I eat some broth or fat free cream of chicken. Technically I'm not supposed to eat the cream of chicken but I lost 9 pounds last week so it's still working!! Hope that helps. -
How Did I Get To This Point?
JLOR replied to Louisiana Girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Readytolose Thanks for turning me on to this group. I too have a low BMI started at 194, been on Pre Op diet one week and down 9 pounds. Hope to get to at least 140, but would love to be in the 120-130 range, but I'll take baby steps to get there! =) For those in a stall, I have heard people talk about going back to an all liquid diet for three days just to jump start again. But Im pre-op so no idea. -

Well i started the prep liquid diet that dr Kim requires a week early and I'm down 9lbs!! Started at 194 now at 185 in one week. But I have two more weeks of liquids only! Surgery is not until the 28th. Man this is tough but it's nice to see the difference in the scale. For those of you who haven't started this part just make sure you drink all your shakes and it will really help the hunger. I try to soace mine out about Every 2-3 hours. Im drinking 5 per day Also keep water with u at all time. Plus hello and Popsicles help as well. -
Im looking for anyone that wants to walk with me on Saturday mornings early at White Rock lake at 7 am for about an hour.

I highly recommend getting a compression belt for your waist. It really helps!!! I haven't had this surgery but 2 csections And a hysterectomy and this makes a HUGE difference. Mine is just a wide Lycra "belt" that velcros on. You can buy at the drug store and most people with bad backs use them. I have seen on the other threads that this has helped. -

Loleata- I think all of us go thru these same questions or similar ones when trying to decide if this is right for you. I can't tell you how to feel but I can share my thoughts for me. Obesity is a disease just like alcoholism, diabetes, or anything else. If I didn't treat this disease the best way I can then wouldn't it be abusive to what god gave me? He wants me to live a full life and if this treatment plan is going to do it then so be it. As for if I am ready to do this, and have I really tried everything. Well I've been overweight for 20 years and been on about a zillion diets. And yeah I've lost but I've also gained it all back too many times to count. This is going to help me KEEP it off. I think your sister is going to see someone that is strong enough to take action to change! This is not easy. There are going to be rough patches and you r still going to have to do the work to make it successful. So I think she will b proud of you! Goodluck!! -
I haven't had the surgery yet, but my doctor did tell me that one of the sides would be more sore because that is where they pull the excess stomach through to remove it. Also, I've had two C sections and a Hysterectomy and I can tell you that you should buy a "stomach belt". Basically it is a really wide stretchy and velcro band that is commonly used for sore backs. But when you wrap that around nice and right, it makes your stomach feel so much better because it creates the effect of "holding everything in". I asked my doctor to be sure I could use it afterwards and he said absolutely. Hope it helps!

August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
JLOR replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I finally got thru all 28 pages! Whew there are a lot of August people! I am going for surgery August 28th here in Dallas with Dr. David Kim. I'm currently 5'5" and weighed in a few days ago at 194. I would like to get down to 120-130. I started being overweight at 20, got to around 150, then by 25 I was about 165, by 30 I was 170...you see where this is headed. I have to stop NOW, so that is why I made this decision. What am I most scared of.....I have three weeks of all liquid diets and I can't stand the protein drinks! UGH I know this is really silly to be scared about but I want this to be successful and I don't know how I'm going to get thru this unless I find some that I can actually get down without gagging. I'm not so worried about the surgery because I'm healthy, and also it still feels a ways off to me. Who is the one person I want to see the new skinny me?......me! I want a picture of myself that I'm not ashamed of. I haven't seen one of those in about 20 years. What preparations am I making? 7/1- Took me 2 weeks to kick the caffeine and carbonation! wow the headaches! 7/16- Tomorrow I am shooting for limiting carbs and continuing to shop for protein shakes. My doctor recommends Bari-Essentials and Opti-fast. Anyone tried them? Continue to walk a minimum of 5X per week for 1 hour. Start jogging for at least 6 minutes of that time. 7/23- No carbs at all and move to jogging for 10 minutes and rest walking for a total of an hour a day. Also, this is the week of my pre-op appointments, EKG, GERD Test, Pre-Op diet seminar 7/30- Start limiting my in take significantly. Move to jogging 15 minutes, walking 45. 8/7- Last "normal meal" for my husbands BDAY 8/8-Start the Pre-Op diet Finally, what are the three things I can't wait to do when I'm skinny? 1.Take a family portrait....I have never done one and my boys are in high school! 2. See someone and have them not recognize me. Wow that would feel good! 3. RUN, JUMP, SKIP, PLAY! I want to do everything! Here's a new question I have not seen...what is going to be your final reward for losing ALL the weight? (I plan to have small ones along the way as well!) I want to go to Peru and walk up to Macchu Pichu! (not sure if I spelled that right) Good luck all!
