Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
NurseJenn replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sure I will need plastic surgery. I've honestly been more worried about saggy skin than the getting the sleeve. I should look into how much it will cost. I need to start socking money away. -
Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
NurseJenn replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome!!! I've heard mostly good things about surgery in Mexico. The surgeon I used actually was performing his procedures in Mexico for a while. Mine was stateside but I'm sure I paid considerably more for my sleeve. I finally announced mine on Facebook (after the fact) so naturally everyone knows my business. Lol. Everyone has been very supportive so far. -
Good luck!!! I hope everything goes well for you both.

I used Dr. Clifton Thomas. He has a satellite office in Nacogdoches (I'm in East Texas). I believe he has an office in Houston. He performed my sleeve at First Street Hospital on Bissonett. I can't say enough wonderful things about him. His technique is amazing. I have 5 small scars (the largest is about an inch, where they removed the stomach). I have had minimal bruising. His office staff, the clinic he used for the EGD, the hospital he performs his surgery at where nothing but amazing, compassionate, and extremely supportive. My mother was so blown away with him that she wants to use him for her surgery as well. =) I've also met staff at all of those locations who had the procedure performed by him also. Just FYI - He's also a GERD specialist. I had a major hiatal hernia and he repaired it while he was in there. I was a cash patient. He did it for free, will bill the insurance company, IF they pay for the hiatal hernia repair, it's gravy for him. I don't owe any copays or anything. I REALLY hope they pay him for it because I have been GERD free since I woke up in recovery.

Embarassing Question- When Do I Go #2 Again?!
NurseJenn replied to jennyblue111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me about 6-7 days for the first one... Then another 5-6 days for the second one. Both were pretty much what I imagine child birth is like. Then I had diarrhea... I was so excited about that I forgot to call my doctor for a couple of days. I'm 3 weeks today and wondering what kind of surprise my bowels are brewing for me. -
How Pcos Effects Women After Vsg - Questions
NurseJenn replied to vdunn87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Symptoms of PCOS should decrease and/or resolve with any type of weight loss. Traditional diet and exercise, WLS... It's all the same to the body. As the weight comes off the hormones can keep up with our physical mass. Good luck to you. I have PCOS as well and I'm looking forward to a healthier body and maybe a little baby making one of these days. -
Choke down is right!!! Lol!!! I bought a 6 pack of the watermelon and they are just horrendous. I threw the first one away after 2 sips. I use Syntrax nectar whey Protein powder and Jay Robb's Egg White Protein Powder. It took almost the entire 12 oz bag but I'm starting to really love the Jay Robb one. Syntrax Nectar unflavored has been awesome because I can mix it with Soups... Really with anything.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
NurseJenn replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello all! 33 year old Psychiatric/Mental Health RN. I was sleeved on 7/19 with a major hiatal hernia repair. Overall doing well. Today and last night have been a little rough. I have been getting dizzy/blacking out from basic chores. Luckily Nurse Mommy is only a phone call away. Definitely some orthostatic hypotension going on. Have to work on getting my Protein in (I've been slacking... Yeah... I know...). I may need to add a little salt. I am doing well with getting lots of fluids every day. I'm averaging 60-80 ounces. That's all I have. I'm so happy to find my nurse sleever brethren. -
Post Op Pain Killer
NurseJenn replied to scorpion509's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pain, but I feel it more of my hiatal hernia repair (it was a very large hiatal hernia) than my Sleevie. I was given the Lortab Elixer and it's been phenomenal for relieving my pain. Don't be afraid. Even if it hurts, it's a temporary pain. It's worth it in the end. -

Whats Wrong With Me?
NurseJenn replied to Almostthere34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have a scale for this exact reason. I'm afraid I'll put too much stock in the digits and lose sight of what really matters. I did this for my health, my future. I'm only day 12 so all I can do is focus on fluids, Protein, exercise. I'll weigh at my doctors office for my week 5 follow up. I hope I don't have a different opinion then. -
Week 5- So Depressing / Disgusting To Eat

Hooray!!! I'm so happy for you. Good that you could get the RX and you'll see the doc in 3 weeks! -
I've spent 5 years trying to get my WLS. I've been open and honest with everyone about my intent. And when it was finally a reality, I became very selective with whom I told. I was even annoyed with my boyfriend for telling his family about it. Today is day 12 post-op and I finally made it Facebook official. I'm not a poster child, but I am an advocate.

Recipe's Specific To The Different Phases Post-Op

I don't know if this is common... But it's something I whipped up pre-op, fell in love with (it's one of my all time comfort foods)... And just fell back in love with it today. Super simple... Make grits (I use 3 Minute Grits) in chicken broth. I use Better Than Bouillion because I can add a bit more and get an amazing chicken flavor. I'm day 12. Already on purée/soft foods. Fantabulous. I think next time I make it I'll make them a little watery and throw in some protein powder to amp up the protein. Yummy!!!!!

Sleepless Nights
NurseJenn replied to phillygirl8133's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wedge myself between a body pillow and another pillow so I don't roll on my side and hurt myself. Or worse... The other night I slept on my tummy!!! Owie Owie ow!!!!! I suffered for it. -

Sleepless Nights
NurseJenn replied to phillygirl8133's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I swear you and I are twinnies. Lol. I was almost in tears last night from that same incision. I desperately wanted to fall asleep on my left side and that was such a major no go. Boyfriend wanted me to take something for pain but I refused. Just wanted to sleep it off. I hate sleeping on my back. I normally toss and turn so all of my body gets equal time on the mattress. I wake up feeling like I'm getting bedsores on my butt from all of this sleeping on my back. Lol. -
Thanks for this. I will get some extra fluids before bed too.

Week 5- So Depressing / Disgusting To Eat
NurseJenn replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry you're suffering like this. I agree with what's been posted... Hang in there, it will get better, find a hobby... Anti-depressants are ok! Seriously. I've been on Cymbalta since my marriage failed last November. I was sleeved on the 19th. My surgeon doesn't want me to even think about getting off my Cymbalta for 6-9 months. I understand not wanting to be on them, but they really can make all the difference in the world. It may not necessarily be forever... This is called Situational Depression. Being sleeved is a life altering event. There are many many factors that play into it. You may find a few months of them is enough and you're able to stop. Or you may be like me... Fall head over heels in love with your anti-depressant and refuse to stop taking it even when the situational depression wears off. I'm very glad you've decided to talk with someone. I hope you find some peace soon. -

Left Shoulder Pain After You Eat?
NurseJenn replied to trojanchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a lot of left shoulder pain. I think it's gas on my diaphragm. I had a major hiatal hernia repair with my VSG. I'm assuming I have the pain because of that. I am 11 days out and I still take a few gas x strips each day for it.
