Regret even after initial "omg, what have I done?"
EnigmaInKY replied to EnigmaInKY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much, Neata. Affirmation is helping me so much. My head is up again and I'm ready to face another day of liquids and possible tears. : ) -

Rocionelizalde - I feel similar guilt about my husband eating alone. Sandwiches at first, but I'm insisting on him eating 'well' again, so I was in the kitchen tonight. Luckily for me right now, I don't have children. I can mostly focus on me. Dana - Thank you. I'm already sick of liquids too, although it sure was a blessing to add 'cream of' Soups and pudding to my small menu of Jello and shakes. In another week I can add a scrambled egg. Two weeks - canned tuna. After that, whatever I can tolerate. I'm hoping to have that aha-I'm-thrilled moment then. Thank you for taking time to respond - and best of luck to you. -

Alamo and Lisa - Thank you, thank you, thank you. I so appreciate your responses and perspectives, as well as everyone else's. It truly does help to feel like I'm not alone. In fact, it was my wonderful husband who suggested, after talking me through yet more tears, that I hop on the forum for some support. Thank you! -

Aleks - Great idea. I do have access to a therapist via my surgeon's office/program for three visits in the first year, but I think I need something more consistent. I'll be checking into what my insurance and company offer after the holidays. Thank you, thank you. -

Lucky - More tears as I read your post because it rings true for me, even the part of my incredibly supportive husband saying he couldn't believe I took such a huge step. He's grateful because of all the things we will be able to do together - I'm extending our lives together! Would you mind to stay in touch? I need the sanity check AND supporting someone else will help me. -

Thank you for responding. I know you're right in every point you made, especially about losing weight and gaining it back (plus some.) How far out are you from your surgery? When did this veil of 'omg' lift? -

I have fruit punch and pink lemonade. I'm not so crazy about anything with sweeteners or that uses chemicals, so that has me struggling a bit right now. But the pink lemonade is something I've had before and loved so I'm hoping for success with it. -
Day 5 Post-Op - Tears and Possible Low Blood Sugar?
EnigmaInKY posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Friday afternoon, 12/21. I've had no real problems other than the lovely gas pains the first 24 hours or so, and my eyes are still dilated (presumably from anesthesia.) However, yesterday and today (Days 4 and 5) I've experienced what feels like low blood sugar. Yesterday I started feeling very shaky and weak, similar to what I've felt in the past with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar.) I drank another Protein shake and felt better. This morning I have not felt well from the time I woke up. Same thing - shakiness, weakness in my legs. I was pretty sure I'd end up passing out at some point. I've been taking in the appropriate amount of protein - struggling with my Vitamins but ultimately getting them down - but still this whole day has been touch and go. At one point I even licked (tiny, tiny licks that I then let melt on my tongue) on a spoonful of PB in hopes that would help me perk up. All of the badness of the day has lead to a lot of tears and regret about this surgery. What have I done? Will I pass out tomorrow? Can I make it to Friday the 28th when I can add some 'cream of...' Soups to my diet? I'm scared. If you are struggling with the same things now or have in the past, I'd welcome any insight on how to get through. My husband is a fantastic support system for me, but fresh perspective is welcome. -

Thanks for the update. I just tried a sip of tonight's purchases and it started my recently settled stomach churning again. Next step: Crystal Light and unflavored Protein powder. -

My husband has been researching the same thing for me today. He found one that is sugar free and only 1 carb. It has 35 grams of Protein in a 3 oz 'shot'. He found it on Walgreens.com but it's only available for purchase locally. It's call Six Star Pro Nutrition Elite Series Instant liquid Protein Shot 35. We just now ran to the only local 24-hour Walgreens that carries it and bought the three they had on the shelf (flavor of berry Blast). Mine are chilling now so I can't yet say how good they are, but I'm hoping they help supplement the shakes, which are starting to nauseate me. Details on these particular protein shots are here: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/six-star-pro-nutrition-elite-series-instant-liquid-protein-shot-35/ID=prod6051376-product Good luck! -
Day 5 Post-Op - Tears and Possible Low Blood Sugar?

Thanks, ladies. In it for the long haul - - appreciate the feedback and support! -
Good morning, everyone. My surgery was late afternoon (almost early evening) on Friday, December 21. Now that I'm approximately 60 hours out I'm doing ok. Those first two nights in the hospital, however, I have to admit I kep thinking, "Oh God, what have I done?" I do thave a curiosity question the Forum.... Did any of you experience a problem with your pupils being dilated after the surgery? There are no mirrors in the area of the hospital I stayed in, nor did I read or use my phone, so I wasn't sure there was a problem until I got home and looked in the mirror. I knew my eyes were feeling sensitive to the bright lights in the hospital when I was walking but just assumed that was my body rebelling. Thoughts or advice?

Dilated eyes after surgery
EnigmaInKY replied to EnigmaInKY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, that does seem a little weird. But it's the best kind of problem to have, I think. I guess I'll figure out if my vision has improved once I can actually see again! I went ahead and called the doctor about it. The on-call nurse told me this is normal and a result of the anesthesia. Depending on how quickly an individual metabolizes the anesthesia, it could even take 1-2 weeks to clear up. Yikes. The good news is I'm finally seeing an improvement just this afternoon.
