Me too! Susie, where are you? Please check in when you can... Also, friends, if you are pre-op'ing, have you tried SF Jello. I just felt like I wanted to "eat" something, with a SPOON. It really hit the spot. No calories, carbs, etc. (at least in the refrigerated little cups), just 45 mg sodium, so it made me kind of thirsty. FWIW.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Jenn, <<<HUGS>>> I can't speak for your experience, obviously, but I know that when I am around my family, and especially if they were offering BBQ, I could easily be triggered and make a poor food decision. Just remember that this surgery is not going to be complicated by "one" piece of cheese, and you made a much better choice than BBQ! If it turned into a binge, then that could be a problem, but I think if you beat yourself up over this, it would be more harmful than this minor slip-up. Get back on that horse. We can do this. We are in this together!

LeprechaunMomma, You seem like the person that lights up the life of everyone around you. I think we all need a little more of that. How blessed your family is to have you.

I know what you mean Joyce, my daughter doesn't like them either. She feels like they get stuck in her teeth. I like them because they remind me of tapioca, and I love tapioca. I think it is just a taste/texture thing. Everyone's got their preferences.

I am using them for pre-op satiety. I would think that they would NOT be appropriate for the post-op liquid phase, and not until after everything is completely healed at 3 to 4 weeks post op. Veteran VSGers on here use them, especially for "regularity" purposes because they are almost completely fiber. HTH.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

My local grocery store HEB, that has a rather extensive whole foods/health section has them. They are the same seeds used with the Chia Plants from years ago. They plump up in liquid and have kind of a tapioca consistency with a little crunch. Here's a link to the kind I have: http://www.navitasnaturals.com/products/chia.html You can google them to see the benefits. They really help bulk up my Protein Shake. You can also use the to make a "pudding" but I haven't figured out a good tasting one yet.

Anyone tried chia seeds yet? I've been adding them to my protein smoothies. They add a lot of fiber and bulk, really helping with satiety.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

When I first made the decision, and paid the deposit, etc., I had some weird dreams. Just remember that we don't control our dreams, and our minds use sleep as a time to make adjustments. I think it is a normal part of adjusting to a major life decision. I know when I was pregnant with my children, especially my first, I would have bizarre and disturbing dreams. Sometimes, it helps to talk it out with someone. I found that verbalizing it took the mystery and "scariness" away, especially when verbalizing it and hearing how "silly" it sounded in the light of daytime. (That is not to say that your dream is silly, I am referring to my own dreams). Hope this helps. Blessings!

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Me too, well it's my pre-pre-op liquid diet (10 days is required). I have been okay too, surprisingly. My daughter is sick so I made broth for both of us. I am using myfitnesspal.com for tracking. If anyone else is on there please friend me: Mom_24 One day down, 20 to go. I did possibly deviate slightly. I took a can of chunk chicken and blended it in with the chicken broth, to add protein and a bit of "oomph" but I will track it and see if it seems like it is counter-productive to the plan. I am about to head out and buy some unflavored protein at HEB, so I can try that next time. Good luck futureskinnypants and everyone else starting or in the throes of pre-op! We can do this!

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Glad to know I'm not the only shorty on here. Once when I was at the doctor's office, they told me I was 5'1", but I think they made a mistake. I measured myself the other day and I was barely 5'. With that being said, my goal, at this point, is 125. I have chosen it because when I reached that weight at 15, I was the slimmest I had been or ever would be post-puberty, and it was a struggle to stay there, but I wore about an 8 or 10 pant, so I could live with that. Would I like to be smaller, yes, but healthy is the most important thing. My fourteen year-old is 5'2", is in the 130s and wears a 6, and she is just perfectly sized. She and I are built similarly, so if I were about her size, I would feel really healthy. Would I love to be really petite, yes, but I am "full-figured" girl, even at my lowest weight, so I am not sure I will ever be "petite". Funny thing is that even at 125, I felt fat. I think a number of reasons for that come into play. When I was a girl, in my family, appearance was everything and the scale was used as a barometer, which doesn't make any sense for me, because most of the other women in my family are tall, so it's like apples and oranges to compare. Also, I think I felt fat, because of the diet and food choices my family made, such as all of the southern cooking that went on. Did we have vegetables? Yes, as long as they were either white (e.g. potatoes) or fried (e.g. okra, green tomatoes, etc.). Okay we had green beans too, as long as they were cooked with a ham-hock! See what I mean? So I wonder if eating all of those carbs, that I am now addicted to and try to stay away from to have any degree of control, as a kid caused me to feel out-of-control, and therefore fat, even when I wasn't. Any way thanks for letting me rant! I am starting my pre-pre-op liquid diet today, instead of at 10 days out, that way I can make any adjustments I need to before the official day. So, three weeks from today....! :D

QOTD: I am in starting my last year of grad school and I teach as well. We go back on August 27. My surgery is August 13, so I have exactly two weeks to recover. Hoping it's enough!

dooter55, You look like you are doing great on your prep "diet". I keep gaining. I have gained about 30 lbs. in the last two years, after going through menopause at 41! I am trying to do a modified pre-op diet prior to my required one, but I keep gaining. HELP! What is your secret? Any advice would be great.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Welcome atelux. I am on the 13th, so we will have to keep tabs on each other. Where are you having surgery? Sorry, I meant, "where" in TX. Is Dr. Kim in the Dallas area? I'm scared too, but feel it is the right thing to do for my health. I am more scared of the consequences of obesity. KWIM?
