  1. He is in Piedras Negras, across the border from Eagle Pass, TX. Quiet smaller city in MX. He is an awesome surgeon and he stays busy doing sleeves and band to sleeve revisions. Lots of us have chosen him for our surgeon
  2. ha-ha...we have the same ticker
  3. I was ! I feel good, no pain from surgery just relearning how to eat and drink the correct way.

    Severe Stabbing Pain!

Call your surgeon, you are probably having spasms.

    Mexico Versus Us

You have made a decision that will change your life. Some days are difficult but you can do this. Dr.A will take excellent care of you!
  6. My Dr also does the leak test in OR. He says it is better that way and easier to get repaired if it is done immediately. It is great, not having to drink that nasty barium stuff!

    Dr. Alvarez

Once you are home, things will begin to feel better. Sip slowly, remember your tummy is tiny and has just begun to heal. Lots of weird feelings and sounds from this surgery. You will get used to them. burping is one sign, for me, that I have eaten enough. Funny how our body will give us a signal to stop! Good luck to you. Try to rest up today because traveling home is pretty exhausting!
  8. I had surgery with Dr Alvarez in MX, I felt ok on The plane but we had a layover and our plane going home was delayed at Dallas. That was not great. I bruised a lot on the journey home and got a low grade fever. I rested all day the next day and felt so much better. The third day after surgery is always the worst and we came home on day 3. All in all, it was not horrible but you will be very tired. If you have a non stop flight, you may sleep most of the way. Be sure to tell them at your gate that you have had surgery and they should let you board the plane first. Southwest did that for us. Good luck to you!!

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

You may have to get shakes that are lactose free. It is fairly common to become lactose intolerant after gastric surgery. Even sleevers can have it happen. Sometimes it gets better but not always.

    Traveling After Surgery

I was sleeved in Mexico and had to fly home on the third day after surgery. It was exhausting but that was expected since it was so soon after having surgery. I rested up for a day or two and was fine. I still could not go to Chicago and walk a lot and I am 5 weeks out now. I still have a lack of energy most days. You may be totally fine, we all heal differently. Hope you have a great trip to the Windy City!
  11. Good way to get in some extra protein...I did try a small cup of coffee at work this afternoon with sweetener and creamer. It was warm and yummy My tummy did not mind it.
  12. Sounds SO yummy, Susie. I loved coffee before being sleeved but I have only had a couple of sips so far. Do you use decaf coffee? I have a Toddy maker ( a filtered pitcher for making coffee extracts) and I would love to try this and add vanilla Protein powder to it. Maybe once I start eating normal foods I will try some coffee again.
  13. So sorry that I have missed this post. I use Unjury unflavored protein powder. I like it the best of all I have tried. Next time I will order the vanilla also. Sometimes I need a break from chocolate.
  14. Good luck Seven7, you will do great! The surgery pain only lasts for a short while, then you feel pretty good. Life begins with a new "normal" after surgery. Best of luck to you!

Am I The Only One Losing Slow

I had surgery on Aug 2 and am down 21 pounds. I think I lose slowly too, but we have to realize that our body is basically in starvation mode and it does not want to turn lose of the weight. I still do not get in enough protein or water in most days. It takes time. I understand how you feel but the weight will come off, our bodies just need to adjust.
  16. I have managed to survive my first week of soft foods. It has been a challenge after 5 weeks of liquids! Hoping that my stomach likes more things as I try more. A few bites and your "meal" is done. Seems like too much bother sometimes! I am feeling good, my energy seems to be coming back. I still struggle with getting enough fluids in each day. I have never been a big drinker, so this is hard for me. Down 21 pounds, been stalled a couple of times and I am only one month out. I put the scale away so I just need to learn to stay off of it. Hope all of you are doing great and good luck to those that have surgery still to look forward too!

    Soft Foods

You can also have LF Ricotta cheese . I tried "Shelly's Baked Ricotta" from The World According to Eggface. It's slightly famous on some of the WLS blogs, and didn't disappoint! You can also find a recipe to add pumpkin puree to it and spices for a dessert. I love pumpkin Boxed mashed potatoes Hummus Cottage cheese

    Soft Foods

I am on that phase now. refried beans, eggs (scrambled or blended into egg salad), tuna salad, puddings, yogurts, grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat, tofu,. I have not tried all of them, I take it pretty slow with food for now. My tummy does not care for egg whites on boiled eggs, so I have tried them poached or scrambled. I thin down the refried beans from the can with water and stir them well to make sure they are pretty smooth. I get the packets of instant grits and really like those. I have not tried any blended meats yet. I have not tried blended soups either, but those are on my list. Hopefully you will find something you enjoy

    Complications W Mexico Vsg?

I was sleeved by Dr. Alvarez in MX on 8/02. My PCP here in the states agreed to continue to be my Dr and give me after care. I think people worry way too much about surgery in MX, it is as safe, if not safer than in the USA. I personally know many people that have had surgery at huge hospitals in the USA and gotten leaks, staff infections, sever nausea etc. I had none of those complications. Dr. A does surgery in the morning and you stay 2 nights in the hospital. I had awesome care and he personally checks on you several times per day. I would go to him again in a heartbeat, I would send my husband or my child there to have him do their surgery, if they wanted it done.My niece had the sleeve surgery in KC and her insurance only approved an overnight stay plus it took her a year to get approved for surgery. Do not be afraid of choosing him because he is across the border, he is a wonderful surgeon. I have heard stories of a couple of surgeons in MX that are not great, but there are others that are awesome.

    Sick Of It!

I slept in my bed the first night home, had to sleep on my right side with pillows between me and hubby. Within the first week I was able to roll over to my right side and sleep in my normal position. I was thankful that I did not have to camp out in the recliner. Try using several pillows for support. Hopefully you will sleeping in your own bed very quickly!!

    Dr. Alvarez

In the hall by the nurses station, they have the huge water bottle on the stand. I filled my cup with it as we were walking, but they do not bring you individual plastic bottles of water.

    Dr. Alvarez

While I was walking the halls, I saw a man carry in two large bags of ice. I am sure it is made of filtered water, They are not going to give patients contaminated water/ice. They do not want us sick and staying longer than we need in the hospital. No one has gotten sick from the ice or water, that I have ever heard.
