For me any ready to drink shake is nasty, way too sweet! I use only Unjury protein powders, they are top quality medical protein. You can order canisters or packets. If you leave out the banana, and use PB2, you should be fine. Add some banana extract ( you can find it in baking supply stores) and they have tons of other flavors. You can make something similar but cut way back on the calories and carbs.
-
You can also just cook it and serve it as a side dish. I make mine with chicken broth for a side. You can also just cook it in water, sweeten it and add cinnamon and a splash of milk for a breakfast cereal. I add Unjury unflavored protein to it for extra protein.

Mexico Octosleevers! Add Your Name, Date And Surgeon!
allnewme replied to zenoosh's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Please let your family know that you are in really good hands while you are on your journey to get your sleeve. They take really awesome care of you at the hospital and Rosy will get you there and back safely. She knows every bump in the road between San Antonio and Eagles Pass. Lots of us have made the trip with nothing going wrong. -
I have never been a big water drinker either. I was told to find something that I like, that my sleeve likes and have it with me all the time. It was an experiment every day at first. Now, at two months out, I know what my sleeve likes. I carry a Tervis cup ( invest in one) with water mixed with propel water on ice. I drink it all day, except when waiting to eat and digesting. Do I get in all my water each day? No. But I still try to. It is getting easier to drink more at one time, not baby sipping any longer. I never got dehydrated but I concentrated on drinking from the start. You have to do it, it is not easy or fun right after surgery. You have to work to find out what tastes good and it is a pain in the rear!

It is better to do a pre op to shrink your liver plus it helps to prepare you for life after surgery. My pre op was 10 days but I did 14 just because I wanted my liver to be shrunk. I wanted my surgery to go really well and it did Dr. A is a wonderful surgeon! For the person that asked, he is through endobariatrics.com not alighterme.

I would only take a carry on if I were doing it again. You need to wear something comfy and casual to the hospital and just wear it back to the hotel too. You only need comfy pj's in the hospital and some slippers or light shoes for walking the halls. One thing that I took was a case for my glasses, I kept lip balm, breath spray and the stylus for my I pad in it. I slept with it in bed with me so if I needed those things, they were very easy to find. You can go to Walmart once you are at the hotel in San Antonio for any broth or jello. No use taking the protein shots, if you desperately want one, Walmart has them also. The hotel shuttle will take you back and forth to Walmart. Take some one dollar bills to tip the driver. I also brought a thank you card with a tip for Rosy for taking us back and forth in the van. Dr.A gives you a tummy pillow and a small backpack sack to carry the pain meds and his folder of paperwork in. I took things we never touched. Pack lightly, anything you need you can probably find at Walmart.

Just Want To Say "thank You"

I went to MX and have not been sorry. My surgeon was wonderful, I had great care and I healed extremely well! Good luck to you! -
We were stopped coming back in to the US and twice they checked our passports. Everyone in our van had a passport so I do not know what they do if you only have a birth certificate.

Also try searching WLS or weight loss surgery boards. I have found many recipes on there, you may have to tweak them a bit to make them sleeve friendly. Lots of soups are good meals for us too. Quinoa is a great protein to add to soups or make a sweet morning cereal. Lots of options, you can always change a recipe and add things we can eat and leave out what we can't.

How Do I Stay Positive?
allnewme replied to irish1988's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is normal to be afraid. It is all unknown to us. I was crazy scared for awhile and then I had peace about it. I was not really scared the day of surgery ( only of the IV ), it was much easier than I ever expected. I had very little pain and no nausea. I am two months out now, have healed very well and am beginning to feel normal again. Do not let fear rule your life or your mind. -

Husband Is Concerned With Me Going To Mexico
allnewme replied to mbabercrombie's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras is an amazing surgeon. They transport you from San Antonio airport to Eagle Pass and then across the border into MX the next morning. It is a safe border town to be in. They transport you back to San Antonio after you are released and put you in a nice hotel there. Watch the YouTube videos by Dr. Alvarez on you tube or Endobariatrics.com My husband was totally impressed with him, and that is something that does not happen often. My husband slept in my room at the hospital and was with me constantly. Hope you can work it out so your husband is not nervous about it. You get really great care in Mexico. -
I too was sleeved by Dr.A on 8/02. He is wonderful and such a great surgeon. You will not be sorry that you chose him. I would recommend him to anyone that is self pay and wants to go to MX. You will get great care from his staff

Surgery And Recovery Alone
allnewme replied to chad2rad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry about your marriage situation. I will be married 30 years in Dec. It is hard work and sometimes you go through hard places. I hope that all works out for both of you and your children. After surgery, you will just really need loads of rest and you should be able to do that on your own. Make sure you have some clear liquids, popsicles and broth on hand and all should be good I was not supposed to drive for two weeks but I did. I only live one mile from our business, so I drove there after 6 days. The toughest part is getting in and out of the car, that is tough on the sore abs! Good luck to you, I hope it all works out the way you wish for it to. -
2 Days Post Op And Hating This So Far
allnewme replied to Jessica89's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are healing so things are not always great but they do improve as each day passes. I am 8 weeks out now and almost back to a new normal. It is a life changing surgery, that is for sure. I hope you feel much better now that you are home. Sometimes the pain meds can cause a lot of nausea. Good luck to you! -

Susie, I looked it up and Vitacost has it for $46.22 for a 3.5 lb tub. I order from them a lot and they have free shipping over $45.00 and ship quickly.

I think all of us should feel that our surgeon is the best, otherwise we would not have trusted him to do our surgery. I never started this journey with the intention of going to MX but that is where I ended up. I found a wonderful Dr and found absolutely nothing negative on any forum about him. I made the choice to have him do my surgery. He cost more than most other Dr. In MX and that was my choice. I could have been self pay at a hospital 45 minutes from my home. Did that Dr have the credentials of my MX surgeon? NO he does not, I made the choice to travel several hundred miles so I could have better surgical skills and care. I loved my Dr and received wonderful care, medicine and friendship from him and his staff. I can still call him or email him at anytime and he is there to help me. Just because he is not a US Dr. does not make him bad, nor does it make those if us that choose to go to him wrong.
