Up And Down, Up And Down Emotions
allnewme replied to Marty McSkinnystein's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too, understand these emotions all too well. I have to start full liquids on the 23rd and I am making myself go to 2 protein drinks per day and one protein/ veggie meal starting on Monday. Not looking forward to this part, it will be easier after surgery to not want to eat, at least for the first few weeks. I think we all have an emotional attachment to food or we would not be in the place where we need this surgery. I love sweets and carbs and have been eating way too many of them as my surgery date approaches. I know that I will be able to eat them again one day but I really want to learn to dislike them. I pray that happens for me after I am sleeved. The truth is, we can do this, we are strong women, we just have to put on our big girl panties and make it through one day, then onto the next. Just keep your eyes on the goal of making yourself thin and healthy. I am preaching to myself here, so please do not think that I am not being understanding. I am 54, it has taken me a long time to get to this place in life. I want to be healthier than I am now, I have to do this to get there. I want to be a healthy and active Grandma for grand babies that are not born yet. I want to be free of taking medicines and without joint pain. We all have reasons that we have to focus on so the next few days won't seem so bad. If any of you ever need to talk just PM me for my phone #. I know we can be encouraging to each other over the next few weeks. -
August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
allnewme replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Goodness, all that sounds de-lish! Have not decided on a last meal yet. We have a small pizza place in my town that rocks a club sandwich. I know that it may be a very long time before I eat bread again so I may have one of those this weekend. Next week I am starting 2 shakes a day and one mini meal of protein/veggie, NO CARBS. -
I chose Dr. Alvarez at www.endobariatrics.com and have surgery with him on Aug.2 You have to do your own research and go with your gut feeling about the Dr. that you choose. I have spoken to people that have been sleeved by this Dr. and I have done a lot of research on him and his credentials. For me, he is closer to where I live so my journey home will be shorter and I did not feel comfortable traveling into Tijuana for surgery. I also wanted to stay in a hospital for my care after surgery, not a recovery house. That and the fact that he is a top notch surgeon and has very great feedback from former patients. I had to look at other things besides the cost of the surgery. Everyone has personal reasons for whom they choose. I have nothing bad to say about any Dr. in MX because I have no reason to. I can only tell you why I chose the surgeon that I chose. Best of luck with your decision !

Yeah, that is my fear too, along with nausea....I hope I can move around some on the plane too

Joyv, Sending up a prayer your way! Good luck with your surgery and recovery. You will be seated on the loser's bench before you know it, with your backside hanging out (couldn't resist that one) Hugs to you! -
Surgery In Mexico...3 Month Follow Up?
allnewme replied to JenC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great! I thought I had asked Susan that question before I booked my surgery. I just do not want a $2,000.00 or more bill that my insurance will not pay. -
Alvarez Or Aceves...help Me Decide
allnewme replied to Krittle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
It has been crazy here, heat wise, so far this summer. It won't phase me a bit, I am sure! -
Oh, the joy of ketosis. Good grief, just another thing to worry about, bad breath, losing your hair and your pants falling down. I am looking forward to them all

I will check the next time I go to Walmart

I think my Dr only requires lab work. I hope anyhow. My insurance will not cover an upper GI for bariatric reasons. -
Spicing Up Clear Broth

Thanks, I will def. get some ordered by the weekend. I like warm things, especially if sipping is required. Hopefully my new tummy will like it too. -
August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
allnewme replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand. I do know that some people cannot tolerate the protein powders so they make shakes with a Greek yogurt base. That way you can flavor them as to your own taste. I think it is a while before we can make fruit type smoothie drinks, I would prefer those made with the yogurt base myself. There are companies that make a protein powder that is unflavored that you can add to yogurt and other soft foods. I will check out the juice cleanse Maybe I need to do that too. -
I know others have talked about ordering the bullets online. We have one grocery store in our town, not much selection, but I will check GNC and Vitamin Shop when I get to a larger town close to us. I have ordered the CLICK protein powder to have decaf coffee shakes someday I have loaded up on 2 different type of vitamin waters. I also bought some powder sticks of vitamin water that I can carry with me in my purse and on the airline. Got those at Sam's Club, not sure of the name now, I am at work. I feel like I am doing pretty good with getting things together, I will buy the things for the next phase once I get home and feel like strolling through the grocery store again.

Spicing Up Clear Broth
allnewme replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a Chinese place close to home, you can get the wonton soup and strain the one wonton out :0 I am not certain about egg drop soup on all clears, Susie. What does Dr. A say about spices in the broth is that OK? I am sure the Mexican broth tasted so good because it is homemade. My future SIL lives with us and he says they don't do fast food in MX. Most everything is made at home, from scratch. I am thinking about getting a chicken and cooking it, making broth and freezing it in ice cube containers. Then I can take out one cube and let it melt, warm it and sip. I think the clear stage will be the hardest of all. Not much variety there! -
Anyone Getting Their Sleeves In July Or August?
allnewme replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I watched your Vlog and bookmarked your Blog so I can follow your journey. You and I will be sleeved one day apart, I am 8/0 by Dr, Alvarez in Mexico also. I have thought about doing a Vlog too. I will be having my husband take pictures of me very soon . The BEFORE of my before and after. I plan to take photos monthly so I can keep a journal/scrapbook of my weight loss journey. -
August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Kj, I can't wait to meet you and your Mom at the hospital. It is going to be a very good thing for all of us. This is like pushing the reset your life button. Messed up the first time, so we start again and make wiser choices Hang in there with the liquids, you can do it I am doing about 14 days, Dr. A required 10 for me. I have gained some weight since I sent my paperwork in, so I am giving myself an extra few days to get some more weight off. I am having a family get together this Saturday and that is the end of my eating whatever I want. Welcome MsDallasSleever!! -
I am getting myself ready for the liquid diet. I am drinking a protein shake for lunch today. Skipped the fried chicken that we buy the boys at work on Tuesdays I will make the mental note about room 10 ....thanks for the heads up! My husband is picky about his shower. I am so glad that you are doing so well. That was a long drive to make in the car. Hubs did not want to drive me more than 12 hours so I get a six hour flight home with the lay over in Dallas. It will be fine though. I do not have Dr. A's book. I will have to get one when we are there. Where do you get the protein bullets? I ordered a sample of Syntrex Nectar protein shakes so I can try to find a shake mix that I really like. I figure I will need them for a while, may as well have a tasty one. I also have bought 2 bottles of the Isopure clear protein for right after surgery. Need to get the Unjury chicken broth ordered too. So much to think about! I have most of my vitamins purchased for after surgery. Any thing that I need to have on hand when I get home, please give me your tips Hope you get some good rest today lady!

August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

So, what are 3 things your looking forward to doing when your thinner??? 1. I love to cruise and go to the beach SO I look forward to being able to go to the beach with my husband and not feel so body conscious. 2. Being able to walk up the steps without taking the steps like I am 70. Hoping that losing weight and exercising more will increase my leg strength. 3. Shopping for cute clothes. Right now I HATE clothes shopping for all the obvious reasons. -
Icandothis- Where are you flying from and what airline? I am flying Southwest because of the more direct flight from KC. Midwest/ Republic is my airline of choice but they wanted to fly me to Denver then to TX, no thank you. The airline seats are small these days and the flights are much more crowded than they used to be. I don't fly often, I get very nervous flying, I never truly relax. Hopefully I will on the way back home thanks to the pain meds. My hubby may have to learn to make soup. He uses every excuse to stay away from the stove! Thank goodness that there is a Chinese place about a mile from my home that has good egg drop and wonton soup. Strain it and have a meal for me and he can eat the other stuff. What day do you and your mom have surgery?
-
I understand nervous! I am super careful of letting my mind "go" there :0 I can easily get all worked up over the things that could go wrong, so I am simply choosing not to think about it. I will save the meltdown for the hospital that morning. So glad that you have family to travel and take care of you! My son told me the other day that if Dad could not have gone, that he would have taken me. He is 24 now, so that made me feel loved < 3

My husband is traveling with me. I plan to have him carry on a bag and then we will check a bag on the way home so we have room for some things for the kids, plus I have to get some Mexican vanilla . That way I will not have to carry a bag at all. I have a small purse sized backpack I will wear to carry my Water bottle and my instant Vitamin water packets, then I will only need water from the flight attendant for my bottle. I do not want to be concerned with a bag on the way home. I also have my own mini pouch that folds out into a blanket, so I should be good for the flight home. Just praying that I do not get nauseous on the flight, that would be so embarrassing! Are you traveling alone? I

Seems like those of us going to Dr.Alvarez are just staggered enough that we won't cross paths at the hospital. I wish we could at least pass each other in the hall while walking off our gas pains I guess we will just have to meet up at one of Dr.A's patient reunions. I am hoping he will have another cruise!
