August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
allnewme replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What is my goal weight? I had never really picked one because it has been sssooo long since I have been under 200 lbs. ( I am 54 years old). I weighed around 165 when I was younger, before babies. When I went for my consult with my PCP, he said that at 155, I would be at a normal BMI so let's shoot for that. I am a really slow loser so I really hope that I can get there. It would make me one happy lady!! I weighed 226.4 when I started my liquid diet. I am going to wait until the day before I fly to MX to weigh again. -
Anyone Know About This Protein Powder... Mercola

They say it has artificial sweeteners and they also do not sell sample packs, so I think that I will skip it for now. -
Anyone Know About This Protein Powder... Mercola

http://proteinpowder.mercola.com/pure-protein-b.html Not sure if anyone here has tried this. I found it doing a Google search. Just curious if you have tried it, if you like it and think it is worth the $$. -
I think I am going to play it safe and try to sleep in a recliner for my first fe nights home, so hubby does not hurt me during his sleep. That arm tossing has me concerned. Plus when I am healing, I kind of like to be left alone as much as possible. I am funny like that.

I would try anything to get rid of the reflux, I can only imagine how bad that is. I hate having it. Did you have problems sleeping on your side? I am a side sleeper, I worry about sleeping in bed with my hubby for the first few nights because he rolls over and tosses his heavy arm across my waist as I am side sleeping. I can see that being extremely painful. I have theater seats, so I am planning to sleep in one of those for the first few nights.

Jenn, I do not see it as rude, I would be glad for someone to reach out to me in this situation. I simply said to mine that we will be having surgery on the same day and that maybe it would be nice to communicate a bit before we get to San Antonio. I told her my name and my age, explained that we would be riding in the van to San Antonio together and staying at the hotel, then riding to MX, just didn't want that to seem awkward for either of us. My sleeve sister is real nice and we are friends on FB now. We don't talk every day but she explained to me that her BIL has had surgery with Dr. A and that is why she is going there. At least we will know each other a little before we arrive in San Antonio. I talk to strangers every week at our church as a door greeter, so I guess I am used to that. For me, if it were a man, I would be real insecure about making contact.

Susie, I have read that some people take liquid Gaviscon, it might be worth a try. Reflux is painful! Just rest as much as possible, it will get better. Do you sleep in a recliner or with pillows to hold you more upright? I know some have said that helps too. Hugs to you,
-
Hi, Susie, Poor girl! I know it has to be exhausting to be working and feel worn out. Our bodies just want us to rest while we heal. Hope that the reflux gets better quickly. What does Dr. A have you taking for that? How much longer are you on clears? have you moved on to the next phase? It has to be better once we introduce smooshy foods, At least the stomach has something to process. I hope that you have a really good weekend. Try to rest some if you can

August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

QOTD-How/When did you decide you wanted to have bariatric surgery? Why did you choose the sleeve? I too was researching the lap band as my PCP had talked with me about it months (even years) before. I was looking into the self pay options when in the sidebar, an ad popped up for surgery in MX. I clicked on it and starting reading about the sleeve surgery. I started researching and found Dr. Alvarez's website and knew instantly that he was the Dr that was to do my surgery. I believe that God led me to the place where I was ready (and my mind was open) to know that this is what is best for me. I feel totally at peace with my choice of procedure and surgeon. Even my PCP has no problem with me going to MX for surgery. All is good -

You can also order Nectar and other Vitamins that we need from www.vitacost.com If you place an order over 45.00 it ships for FREE. I love ordering from them, they ship very quickly. ALSO, If you call the company directly, you can get a sample packet of all 14 flavors for $14.00 shipped free. One sample pkg per customer. The number is 866-333-7403 X 801. Cheaper than buying them in the stores and you can test each flavor to see what you like before investing in a large container. The newest flavor mint cookie is not available as a sample yet -
Hi. Ladies. Surgery is scheduled for Aug. 2 with Dr. A. My name is Joyce. I am from Missouri. My husband, Mark, is my traveling companion and we will fly from Kansas City to San Antonio and get a ride from Rosie to Eagle Pass. Glad that you mentioned tipping, as I would not have thought about that. I will make up some thank you cards before we head out for surgery. I started my pre-op a couple of days back but I have eaten something for dinner the past 2 nights. I am only required a 10 day all liquids diet, so I figure that replacing most meals with liquids or a protein shake for extra days can't hurt. Starting the 23, I am total liquids. I ate yogurt last night only to check later and it is not on the list for pre-op. I bought some thinking that is was OK. I have been doing well so far though. The hunger is not bad at all. I look forward to chatting with each of you as we prepare and get past the surgery. I believe this is going to be the best thing that I could ever do for myself.

Wow...I have never heard of that. Do you have to see a cardiologist now? So sorry, I know how much we mentally prepare for this and it sure is not good news to think you will be delayed or postponed. I had to check to see what this is: Bundle branch block (BBB) is a disruption in the normal flow of electrical pulses that drive the heart beat. I can understand why they would not want to put you under. It is always better to be safe. I am sure the cardiologist will have answers for you. Try to stay calm, I know that is easier said than done but you are healthy and have never showed any signs of a problem. Keep on thinking positively. -

I chose to go to MX since I am self pay and it is faster and less costly than messing with the self pay programs in USA. Dr.s there usually have done more sleeve surgeries also. -

Yeah!!! That is really quick. Good news for you It will be here before you know it. -
My first pre op day was today (surgery 8/02) did pretty well until dinner and my blood sugar was on a downhill spiral so I made scrambled eggs. I figure that is better than other choices. I plan to get some mini juice containers that have sugar in case it happens again.
-
Today I had my morning coffee, then I had a cup of creamy chicken soup at lunchtime (the powder packet that you mix with water). I had some Propel water throughout the day. I did really well until dinnertime and I could feel my blood sugar about to crash so I made myself scrambled eggs. No cheese or bacon, just eggs. I figured that I had very few calories today so some protein was most needed. I feel much better now. Hubby and I went out to the store and got some SF Popsicles. I am hoping that my blood sugar stays stable when I am on all liquids. I plan to have some small containers of juice with sugar on hand in case that happens again. I will try to find some Atkins shakes, I think they carry them at my local grocery store.

I found a mole on my husband's leg once and gee, I about lost it. I MADE him get it removed and tested. It turned out to be nothing but the thoughts that can go through are minds are pure torture. So glad all is well with you and now your mind can rest again!! -
Susie, you have to be exhausted. You rest and relax as much as possible. I will keep the lifting restrictions in mind while working! Thank you for that.
-
Going to all liquids today. I am only required 10 days pre op but I am getting the issue under my control and starting today. Want my liver to be very small by surgery day. How are you doing? I talked to Susan and got the email of my sleeve sister so I have been able to make contact with her too. We may just all have a big perty together down there in MX, celebrating the new gals we are going to be !!
-
It will be here and over before you know it, Carolyn. Hope it goes very well for you!

Good luck with your surgery!

I live SE of KC in Pleasant Hill. Very familiar with Joplin area, our daughter went MSSU four 4 years and lived in Joplin and Webb City during that time. I personally have not been down since the tornado. My daughter graduated the day before it hit. We were having her grad party when that happened. So very scarey and sad!!

Yes, we do mamamelly, it is coming very quickly! Will be here before we know it.
