Family picture June 2013.jpg
Christine Kirk-Lopez commented on Christine Kirk-Lopez's gallery image in Before and After Gastric Sleeve Photos
This picture was taken a few days before my one year surgiversary - down 130 lbs. This is my family picture and the first family picture we've taken. I would never take a family picture because I was always so embarrassed. Knowing I am comfortable enough to be in pictures with my husband and children makes me happy. -

I Can't Poop. :-(
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to missmachine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just went through the same thing last week and the doctor told me to take the Mirilax, Colace (stool softener) and a Senecot (a natural vegetable stimulant laxative w/ stool softener). Also, try to take in as much Water as possible. I did all these and still could not go and she said if it did not work to use a Fleet enema and lie on my back and roll back and forth and hold it as long as I could and then if I still did not feel total relief to fill the bottle with warm water and do another one. I ended up having to do the enema and did not need to do it a second time and it had been 8 days. It was miserable!! I hope you find relief. Take care! -
Light Headed, Heart Palputations, Dizzy
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had the same experience and it is when I eat too fast and/or am not paying attention and eating. I find I need to wait about 4-5 minutes between bites so I know when I am getting full. If I eat even one little bit too much I get the pain, cannot burp, try sitting up very straight or getting up and walking and no relief and then twice it has resulted in a spasm attack and dry heaves....not fun at all. I am not able to take in more than about 3 ozs right now...all depending on what I'm eating. I hope this helps. I'm almost 4 weeks post op. Also, it sounds like you might be dehydrated with the lightheaded feeling and diarrhea. I too have the same pain but it is located close to my incision site so you are not alone....what did your doc say?? -
Pain Week 3
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to N-Linda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just searched for "right side pain" and found this string. I'm having intermittent pain on the right side and am about 4 weeks post-op on Monday. I'm going to try massaging to see if that helps. When I asked the doctor she said that she anchored the new sleeve to my abdominal wall and this is the incision where they pulled the old stomach out. I, too, was getting worried that this was unique to me...glad I found that others have had similar situations and eventually it goes away. It makes it very difficult to exercise as that seems to make it worse. I'll just have patience and see if massage will work. Thank you. -
Strange Question....
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to courtney333's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I use fitday.com to write down what I am eating. It gives your the Protein count and everything. Best of luck to you. Today is my 1 week surgiversary and I am not going to weigh until I see the surgeon next week. I don't want to be held captive by the scale. I am just trying to follow the program and have faith that it will work. Take care and I think adding a snack in is a great idea. -
Is This Normal
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to Stae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same exact pain on the right side! I honestly think it may be spasms. My doctor gave me anti-spasm medication and I decided to try one and it helped the pain. I only have the pain when I am up and I actually have a small indentation where the pain is too. My husband said he wondered if it was a spasm so I tried the under the tongue medication and it did subside. I'm glad to see someone else is experiencing the same thing! Everything else seems to be going well. -
Any June 25Th Sleevers?
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to Looking Ahead's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm doing pretty good. Still having pain on my right side. I am actually thinking it might be spasms in my new sleeve so I tried the anti-spasm medication that Dr. Lane sent me home with and it seemed to work. So maybe I will be able to get away from the pain medication since the only pain I am really experiencing seems to be the spasms (pulling and sharp pain on right side). My doc said my surgery went perfect too. I'm struggling with getting all my Protein in. I'm doing okay with sipping Water and fluids just struggling to get enough protein. I have vanilla Protein drinks and am not tolerating it at all. I am doing okay with the chocolate. I have no hunger, which is great. I just need to stay focused and listen to my body. Hope all of you are doing well. No one said it would be easy, but they did say it would be worth it! I just keep telling myself this and it is keeping me going. Take care! Christine -
I'm so sorry you are experiencing so many issues. I'm sure this is frustrating and I sincerely hope that your PCP will help you. I also hope that you will find answers and begin to feel better so you can enjoy all of the hard work you have put in to have this procedure. I'll keep you in my prayers and will be sending healing and good thoughts in your direction. Take care! Christine

Pain Question
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to erikadawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you posted this question as I had surgery 5 days ago and also have the pain on the right side where I imagine my new sleeve is located. I am still having to use pain medication just to keep this area from being too painful. The meds knock the edge off enough that I can be functional. I am definitely getting better but the right side pain is still pretty intense without the medication. Hopeful that this is just a normal part of the surgery, given they cut out 3/4 of our stomachs. I'm still pretty tired but getting stronger every day too. Best wishes on continued healing : ) Christine -
Had A Vertical Sleeve Surgery And Am New To Forum
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to deb_fox's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm fairly new to this site too and was just sleeved 5 days ago on June 25th. We have similar stories and are the same age. I too am doing great with the recovery. Still a bit sore in one spot and a little tired but doing everything they are telling me to do. I look forward to using this site to gain buddies who understand what we are going through, It's been great for that. Congratulations on your success thus far. I feel truly grateful that I made this decision. -
Sleeved This Past Monday-Home Terrified Today
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been eating campbell's cream Soups and measuring out 6 ozs and straining it into my bowl. My doctor said if I could eat 6 ozs in an our that would be sufficient. It is working. I've eating cream of chicken, tomato, beef broth, cream of asparagus so far. Again I strain out any bits and eat the Soup and it is very tasty going down in small sips. I'm also eating sugar free strawberry Jello and Edy's real fruit sugar free popsicles (very tasty) and these count towards my liquid intake. I'm also trying to get in my Protein shakes for breakfast and dinner to get my protein where it should be. I don't have a drain but do have a lot of pain on my upper right side and that is where my biggest incision is and she also had to repair a hiatal hernia and I don't know if this is the area that my new sleeve is and the incision where they removed the part of my stomach they removed...but, it is painful and makes it hard to walk upright. I've been using ice in this area and it seems to help. I've been using a heating pad on my lower tummy and back and that also seems to help. I hope you get relief soon...you may have pulled a muscle in the back from all the strange contortions of movement in trying to keep your tummy from hurting. Keep the faith! Christine -
Sleeved This Past Monday-Home Terrified Today
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Monday too. My surgeon explained that spasms are very normal for the first few days. She sent me home with anti-spasm meds to help with it. I agree with many others that have reached out to offer you support...you have to take care of yourself first and not worry about anything else. Getting your Wellbutrin back on track is a priority. Call the doctor if you need information about how to get it into your system. Also getting fluids in your system...I found that I cannot handle really cold water so I drink sips of room temperature water and I need to be sitting up straight and this helps. I hope that things will be looking up in no time for you. Take care. -
Any June 25Th Sleevers?
Christine Kirk-Lopez replied to Looking Ahead's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found this site and I'm having surgery on Monday the 25th too. I've been doing the pre-op Protein shakes (New Direction) and am doing well. I'm so ready for some beef broth or something, though. I'm feeling excited, nervous and ready for Monday! I look forward to looking around this site a bit more and checking in with all of you. Best wishes to all of us for a safe surgery and speedy recovery! Having surgery in Lansing, MI with Dr. Mindy Lane.
