    Closing Account

I'm not sure why you started this thread. If you were trying to find Alex, you could have created a thread with "Alex, please contact me." You could have simply stated you wanted to delete your account and not state a reason. Instead, you decided to bash people as a parting shot. You're right, the internet gives one a certain amount of anonymity and bravado to say what they please. As you leave this forum, keep in mind that: For your parting shot of negativity, anything positive you might have said comes off as back-handed. Good luck to your continuing journey of weight loss. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Friends- Can We Really Keep Them?

I haven't had that problem. I always seemed to be the one keeping myself from being a part of their activities. They hike and go to parks; I never wanted to be out in public where I would possibly sweat and huff and puff. They've all been great and positive about my surgery and have been amazed at my weight loss (before and after surgery). I hope to get to hike with them soon but we live so far from them, we have to really plan ahead. I've always hated being around other people, and social situations in general. It is physically and emotionally draining for me. I had hoped that losing weight would make me feel more comfortable around others. My husband says I am but I still feel anxiety. The thought of finding looking for friends scares me. I wish you success in finding people to have fun with!
  3. I would think for them it would be worse since they can't afford it and have to go through their insurance.
  4. I don't think anyone who is "shaking their head" in disbelief is angry at the original poster. I think a lot of people who have posted or reading this topic are wondering (as some have already stated) why would a doctor do this when there are other alternatives (jc and ww for example) another doctor would have suggested. Then I think there are some who are a bit shocked how many hoops with their doctors, insurance companies, etc. they had to jump through and some still be denied a life-saving surgery and then see someone (anyone) do it for a cosmetic reason. It just happened to be a person on this forum. I have no anger for her, and she's probably not the first one to do it. If she wishes to tell her story, that is entirely up to her. I hope she achieves her goals. Please see the other side of why people are questioning her so closely. I see people getting denied this surgery every day. I see the struggles of people trying to jump through the hoops of the insurance company and psychologists, etc. and see the frustration. They're exhausted, mentally and physically, of trying to get through. I think seeing this post could make one exasperated, having so many obstacles in their way and the frustration of having to lose at least 50 pounds seems like climbing Mt. Everest. I don't see people hating on the original poster, I think everyone here is more sensitive to weight issues than most forums. Any sort of criticism seems to turn into a "you're just saying it because you hate fat people now". We're all here because we had the sleeve (or going to), and we are connected for that.

    Body Fortress Advanced Whey Protein

I would suggest only using one scoop since your body cannot absorb that much protein in one sitting.
  6. My classes at Kaiser showed us a video about chair dancing. Granted, its an older video (I believe mid-80s) but probably still effective. I hope this helps.

    Tea!

Just make sure its decaffeinated, otherwise you're fine. Caffeine will dehydrate you and of course, defeat the purpose. Good luck

    Pcos Sleevers. Anyone?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2001 but I knew I had something wrong with me in my teens. I've been sleeved for a bit over three months now. I hit a stall at three to four weeks like everyone else seems to. I had previously loss before the surgery over 50 pounds. I only update my profile once a month on the boards and on my fitness pal but I'm doing better than I have in the previous months. I don't worry about slow or fast weight loss as long as its gone.

    Metformin?

I was taken off Metformin about a week after surgery. Honestly, I was doing all that I can to be off it beforehand. I cut soda and most sugar out of my diet. My A1c was at 6 before surgery. After I went home, my sugar level dropped in the morning to under 70 which my doctor told me to stop taking Metformin completely.

    Disgusted By Others Eating

Your first paragraph was on track, its your feeling and you own it. When I look at pictures when I was at my heaviest, the word disgust enters my mind. All the bad choices and using food to comfort my pain instead of confronting it. Disgust is the word I feel. When I look at others eat, I don't feel disgust towards others, but more at amazement. I always comment to my husband how amazed I used to eat that much and sometimes more (don't forget dessert!). I don't judge the people eating. They're paying for it, and not just the menu price. If you get physically ill watching others eat, don't watch. I used to get ill watching my husband eat because he ate so fast. I simply told him I'll have to look away when he eats, since its my problem and not his. Your second paragraph seems to contradict the first. You don't keep it to yourself. This is a forum you chose to express your disgust, a very public place where people are very sensitive to the scrutiny of others. There is no "safe haven" on the internet. This forum is a very informative place and many people here have good and insightful advice to share. However, to justify your feelings of disgust in a forum (their safe haven as you call it) where people who feel they've been judged by the skinny ones all their lives is hypocritical. The looks you give to the people you're frowning on are probably more clear than anything you could have said to them.

    Diabetic Sleevers

I was taking 2550 mg a day of Metformin before surgery. My surgeon also said that I had a better chance of getting rid of diabetes with RNY as well, but I wanted the sleeve. Before I was sleeved, I reduced my A1c to 6. My blood sugar since surgery has been normal. My regular doctor has since taken me off Metformin.

    Lapbandtalk.com

I did my research on all choices since Kaiser offered all three options. My sister has had the bypass and I almost had it done back in 2004. I wasn't ready to have my body rewired differently and live with the downside of malnutrition. My sister also had a difficult first pregnancy with getting enough nutrients to her baby. I thought the lap band would be a good fit, but after more research and talking to the orientation doctors at Kaiser, the lowered chance of success of losing the amount of weight I want and the possible complications were enough for me to change my mind. As for regrets, I don't really have any. I wish I had known Kaiser had offered this earlier, I would have definitely signed up for the classes. I've heard some horrific stories about the lap band and there are plenty of youtube videos of people with complications. As for the people on that website, their choice was as personal as choosing who to marry. Its a life decision and they'll defend it as such. Just keep in mind that we all defend our personal choices.
  13. I had most of my incisions heal within six weeks. The one that took the longest to heal was right above my belly button and kept opening slightly because I slept on my side. I didn't have any infections.
  14. 60-80g Protein per day 400-600 calories 64 oz. of Water I work out every day for at least an hour and a half. I think I'm losing inches more than weight at this point.

    Eating Out

Before I had my surgery, we used to go to the buffet. Not for the usual fill up on bad for you, good tasting stuff, but for vegetable research. I got to try all sorts of vegetables, salad dressings, and healthier choices than fried chicken. If I do go back, I'll know what to get. As for restaurants, I've only been once and I bring home lots of leftovers. Most of the time, my husband has them for lunch the next day.

    Attn: 40 Bmis And Over

I'm still on my CPAP for now, it gives my husband peace of mind. I was only sleeved about two months ago. I hope by my next check up I'll be off it for good. It is definitely a goal for me to never needing to use it again.

    Attn: 40 Bmis And Over

Its normal, I had all the same thoughts. I went through the Kaiser program back in 2004 for gastric bypass and talked myself out of it. I thought I could do it all on my own, and for a while it worked. I slowly lost weight over the years. Finally I got tired of being hooked up to a CPAP machine, taking medications, and being dependent on food. I decided that the risks of surgery were worth it. I even tried talking myself out of having surgery the day it happened because I was afraid of not waking up or worse, waking up in the middle of the procedure. The nausea afterwards was minimal for me, maybe I was lucky. Make sure this is what you really want.
  18. I went through the Options program in Fontana last year. They do tell you its "preferred" and they don't want you to gain weight but you definitely want to see it as mandatory. There are so many people having this done that they want people who are willing to work for it. You also want to lose that weight so your liver will shrink so it will be easier to operate. The most important thing you want to do is start to learn to eat properly and exercise. They didn't set the appointment for my psych evaluation until I called them and told them I lost my 10%. I hope this helps.
  19. Currently, I'm taking the Bariatric Advantage chewable multivitamin. Once they're gone, I'm going to move to their capsule form. I'm also taking extra biotin and slow release iron supplements.
  20. The crutch comment caught my eye.. that's a new one for me. I guess if you told them, "Let me break your leg and then I can mock you for using a crutch; a necessary item to get back to normal because that's how you're treating my weight loss surgery. Its a necessary tool to get back to being healthy." Not my favorite phrase but, "Haters gonna hate." Some people take joy in the fact that there are others in misery around them. Be happy and be healthy.

    What Do You Tell People?

I think its a personal choice. If you don't want to share, that's your call. My choice was hard because I knew I was going to get some negative reactions among the positive. I chose to start a blog at first for myself as a personal journal and told no one else about it. I then decided to tell everyone and explain in my own way how I felt. I don't mind talking about it and I don't care if they think its the easy way out. If the end result is that I'm happy and healthy, who cares how I did it? Its definitely not easy, and I tell them so. When I took the Options class, one of the things the instructor said was to be a hero. He said that I should talk about my weight loss surgery and struggles with weight to inspire others. When my friends ask me questions, they are genuinely interested in what's happening to me so I don't mind talking about it. I've inspired a few of them to get back to working out, buying equipment and joining a gym. In a way, it puts the pressure on me to keep to my workout regimen. I want to show them that I'm working hard, that there's no easy way out about this at all.

    Premier Nutrition Shakes

I thought the same way about Premier (weird taste) until I poured it over ice. It definitely makes a difference, but not much of a choice when I am on the go and need to drink it out of the box.

    Muscle Milk

The brand is called Premier. http://www.premiernu...tein-shake.html Its about 15-16 dollars a twelve pack right now at sam's club. They're about 25 dollars for an 18 pack at costco. I think I might go back to cyctosport (which makes muscle milk) once my levels are a bit higher. Its expensive but you're paying for what it has: high Protein, small sugar/carb, and decent amount of calories per serving. Cytosport is nice because its pretty cheap (35 dollars for a huge bag) but for some reason I'm not absorbing the protein (27 per serving). The surgeon's assistant wants me to use the Premier brand to see if it helps.

    Muscle Milk

My surgeon said the same, 400-600 calories a day. Another thing to remember is that I've been told the body can only absorb 30 grams of Protein per sitting. I was using cytosport (powder) and skim milk which would equal 35g per serving. I would only have two shakes a day and the rest would be covered by the food I ate. My recent blood tests proved that I wasn't absorbing enough protein and did a little research on why. My appointment with my surgeon's assistant a few days ago asked me to start using the premier shakes which are 30g per serving. They're a little expensive unfortunately. I hope this helps.
  25. I've only had two negative responses from my telling, and they're primarily because they were the negative people that made me to turn to food for comfort. I'm talking about my parents. The rest of my friends and family were all behind me. In the end, my parents decided to respect my wishes enough to be there at the hospital when I got out of surgery. You don't have to tell anyone or you could shout it from the rooftops of your town. You're happy with your decisions and they'll have to abide by it. What really helped was starting a blog about my experiences. I hope this helps you.
