    November Sleevesters?

Hello! My doctor had me on liquids for 10 days after surgery. He said no need to worry about protein just yet---your body has enough stored for now. He also doesn't recommend Protein Shakes or anything like that though... 10 days after surgery they called me and told me I could then start eating purees. I think if you are tolerating the foods and you're able to get your liquids in....I'd keep eating them. I can't imagine soup or yogurt damaging your sleeve a week out. I'm jealous that you tolerate yogurt! My tummy hates it, so far.
  2. The first thing I ate was cottage cheese. It's really one of the only things my stomach seems to love. I tried hummus, but unfortunately my tummy didn't like the garlic I hope that changes!!! I'm eating refried beans now... my tummy is liking them so far!

Chicken And White Bean Curry Soup Recipie

    Sounds Yummy!!
  4. I have a vitamix. Expensive...but completely worth it. Seriously, I use it so much it has more than paid for itsself. Cleaning is a breeze. Fill the container halfway full of water, add a drop of soap, blend on high...it cleans itsself!

    Updates By Nov. 2012 Sleevers

Hello Everyone! I was sleeved Nov 6. I'm doing well, haven't weighed myself...so not sure what I've lost (although I know I've lost something...) Today is day 10, and they finally allowed me to begin purees. It was beginning to get really difficult to eat nothing but broth, juice, Jello and Water. It wasn't because I was hungry. I don't think I've been hungry at all, actually. My abdomen is still pretty tender...mostly the largest incision. I can finally manage to get around better and drive today. I take 2 Tums Ultra and 2 Flintstones Complete everyday...followed by 1 Prevacid. I haven't really had any gas issues, but I have had a lot of trouble pooping. haha I didn't poop for a week. I started taking Miralax and Colace...and now have had a little success.

    Hello Vsg World!

I had my vertical sleeve gastrectomy November 6, 2012. It's been a week...and I'm happy to report that the worst is behind me (I'm hoping!). I've started a blog, My Sleeved Tummy, to chronicle my adventures while I attempt to lose weight and gain control of my life. You can find my blog at: www.mysleevedtummy.com I hope you give it a visit! Maybe our stories are similar? All the best!

    How Long?

I was sleeved the same day as you, and my steri-strips are still in place. My doctors said that they would come off when they were ready to come off, and not to rush them or pick at them. I don't know how long they'll actually stay on, but I was told a little over a week, maybe longer.

Lucky Me, I Had To Be One Of The Few That Had A Hard Time With Nausea After My Sleeve!

Like you, I really suffered with nausea. I had my surgery a week ago, and the nausea has finally subsided today. It was so bad that I would try and suck on one tiny ice chip and instantly get sick. Some things that helped me (aside from the medication) were quease ease sticks (they're little pen like things with essential oils) and breathing. I'd try to focus on my breaths and control those until the horrible feeling would finally subside. Glad you're feeling better now!

    November Sleevesters?

I hope my fellow November sleevers are doing well!!! I'm doing much better today (day 6 post op). Still have a little incision pain, but not horrible. Life is looking up! I've decided to start a blog to chronicle my adventures with my VSG, so I thought I'd share it with you all...in case anyone is interested. http://www.mysleevedtummy.com

    Stop Telling People!

Congratulations on your surgery! I just had mine last Tuesday. It's been a little rough so far, but I'm super optimistic that the end result will definitely be worth the pain. I know exactly how you feel about your mother telling everyone. Actually, my mom did that to me too. Aside from my husband (of course), I decided to tell my parents, my sister and my grandmother. I see my mom and sister a lot and knew I wouldn't be able to hide it from them...and I'd probably need their help a little. I absolutely did not want my brother or sister-in-law to find out until I was ready to tell them myself (if ever...). To put it mildly, my brother is a complete jerk and my sister-in-law is very jealous/judgemental. Besides, she always holds her "skinniness" over my head, you know. Sure...I might have everything else, but I'm still fat. That's how she feels about me. Well, turns out my mom told them. Once I found out I asked her about it and she told me: "they're family. They have a right to know." Seriously. That's what she said. I love my mom dearly, and really appreciate her...but that really made me angry. I won't be telling her anything important from now on. ...and I was right. My brother has been bad-talking me already...and now my ENTIRE family knows. Cousins and all.

    Hello Sleeve-Sters!

Hello Everyone! I had my VSG on November 6th, early in the morning. Technically I am 4 days post-op, but because I had it so early...I'm saying I'm 5. I had my surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. It was done by Dr. Todd Kellogg and a wonderful team of residents, CRNAs, anesthesiologists, nurses and pharmacy personnel. I was very well taken care of. Dr. Kellogg was absolutely wonderful! He is new to Mayo Clinic, but has practiced at the UofM for the past 15, or so, years. He has a really good bedside manner, and I really felt like he cared about me and my feelings. He explained the different surgeries in detail, and never pressured me to choose one over the other. I really respected that about him. I mean, it is my body, after all. My surgery had no complications, but I have a lot of trouble tolerating anesthesia. I felt nauseous until just today. So far I'm having no problems sipping on my Water or chicken broth. I've been getting in between 6-8 glasses the past 2 days. I feel thirsty all the time, so that seems to help. I'm also having no problems with my Vitamin (flinstone's complete) or Calcium supplement (tums ultra). I chew them really well and they go down just fine. I have not been able to tolerate things that are overly sweet. Vitamin Water Zero is a no go. Isopure Protein water is disgusting. liquid Tylenol is unbearable. Seriously. Did you know they put high fructose corn syrup in that stuff?! That is crazy (and an entirely separate post...). As of now, I do not have any feeling of hunger. I don't crave anything or feel like I'm starving. That being said, I will definitely admit that it has been a little hard when I see foods I like. It's not like my body needs them or is craving them...but I feel like my brain is playing tricks. I know this can't disappear overnight, so I'm paying attention to this and hope to re-train my mind. I am still on my pain meds, and I've got to say I definitely need them. My large incision (where the stomach was removed) is really sore. It hurts to get up or lay down, but every day is a little better. I started a little blog to chronicle my adventures with my new tummy. Please check it out, if you would like! I'm hoping to meet some people who are around my same age (27) and/or sleeved around the same time. All the best!

    November 5Th Sleevers?

I'm feeling really good! Not too much pain, mostly just discomfort. I've been up walking and im having a few icechips. I'm not even really tired...just keep drowsing off from the meds ,I think. I had surgery at 8 am today. Hows everyone else doing?
