I think as long as you supplement it with your regular exercise habits (assuming they are more than "8 minute abs") it's fine. The 4 minute workout on its own is only going to make your wallet lighter.

Hopefully the 11 year old will learn about parenting from someone other than her own mother.

"My Wife" by The Who (interesting idea for a thread, Derrick)

Musicalmomma, thanks for putting that chart together! I was feeling so lazy earlier today...I just wanted to lay on the sofa and watch bad TV...but I got off my ass and went for a 30 minute walk outside (in the 90 degree heat of Miami Beach, AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!). It wasn't a LONG walk, but I just took a shower and now I feel great. It's the best feeling when you don't want to work out, but you do anyway.

Thanks for mentioning this, it is something that everyone should look into before they choose to consume soy on a regular basis. In my case, Whey protein makes me nauseous and I can't tolerate it; I have more health concerns relating to whey than I do to soy. There certainly are a lot of concerns with soy products, but I think most of those concerns are raised by the dairy lobby because they don't want to lose potential whey customers. Asians have been consuming soy on a regular basis for ages and they seem fine. Still, it is important for all of us to educate ourselves and make wise food choices based on knowledge and our own experiences. Soy is not for everyone. But neither is whey. (Aplogies if I sound overdefensive here, but I got into a rather heated discussion in a different thread over the issue of soy protein and I'm a little touchy about it )

Bush Vetoes Stem Cell Bill - Thanks Goodness We Are Saving Those Discarded Embryos
Lucy replied to marjon9's topic in Rants & Raves
Lucy's Barbecue Sauce 1 large red onion, chopped 4 garlic cloves, minced 1/2 cup olive oil 1/2 cup Laphroaig single malt scotch 10 oz tomato paste 1/2 cup cider vinegar 1 cup honey 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup Dijon mustard 1/2 cup soy sauce 1 cup hoisin sauce 2 tablespoons chili powder 1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes In a large saucepan on low heat, saute the onions and garlic with the olive oil for about 12 minutes, sweat the onions, but don't over-saute then. Deglaze with the scotch. Add the tomato paste, vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chili powder, and red pepper flakes. Simmer uncovered on low heat for 30 minutes. Voila! Mark: multiply everything by 120. -
Vehicle crash with moose - Abdominal contusions

Thank god you are okay, that looks like it was a terrible accident! You must have been freaked out! Seriously, they offered you the meat? I guess I'm too much of a city girl, I have never heard of that before... -
Toni -- to answer your protein question, I use Whole Foods brand vanilla soy protein in my shakes. I'll give you the recipe for my shake if you want it. Also, I have a KitchenAid blender that I love. A regular blender might give you more power than the bullet...

When I was a little kid I hated my real name and wanted to change it to Lucy. That didn't happen and as I got older I became more comforatble with my real name. But I still use "Lucy" as my name online.

I make my own Protein drink for Breakfast every morning: 2 oz ff organic vanilla yogurt 4-6oz frozen berries 1 T flaxseed oil 1 scoop soy vanilla protein powder 1 scoop perfect food greens 4-6oz orange juice blend. deeeelicious! If I'm in a hurry, then I grab a bottle of Odwalla chocolate Protein drink. I keep a stash of them on hand for the 1-2 days a week that I need to dash out the door.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters
Lucy replied to AshevilleEddie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey everyone, I haven't posted in a while and I just wanted to say hi to everyone. Kity, I hope your weekend with Susanne goes well. Sending some positive thoughts your way! Eddie, congrats on the fill! Woo hoo! Dee, be well and let us know how everything goes. Juli, I know we all hit plateaus. Keep working out and eating right and your body will submit! Things are going pretty well since the surgery. This week I've finally started to feel like myself again, I think being on mushies has given me more energy. I'm down almost 20 lbs. since surgery and I feel great! I can't really see the difference yet, but my husband says he does (of course, he could just be saying that to be nice). But a friend that I saw yesterday said she thought I had lost weight and she doesn't know about the band, so that made me feel really good. Have a great weekend, kids. I'm going to clean the house and relax... -
Bush Vetoes Stem Cell Bill - Thanks Goodness We Are Saving Those Discarded Embryos

I'm all for Bush screwing up. The more mistakes he makes and the more Americans he pisses off, the more voters will rise up in anger and strive to replace him with someone from the left wing (or as left as the Democrats go, which isn't very far in my opinion). And you're all wrong about the BBQ sauce. My homemade secret recipe from scratch is the mother of all BBQ sauces. A little sweet, a little smoky, a little spicy. Just like me. -
I didn't have a final straw, really. I've always been overweight, never been able to lose more than 20 lbs. In the last year and a half I've had 2 surgeries on my ankle and gained even more weight. The ankle wasn't healing because I was too heavy. One day I saw a documentary on PBS about some guy getting the LapBand -- I had never heard of it! I went online, did a bunch of research, found my surgeon, took out a loan from the bank, and that was that. Oh, and a week before surgery, some luntic full of road rage yelled at me out her window and called me a "fat f*ck". That pretty much solidified my decision.

Welcome to the June thread! Good luck with your surgery!

Thanks Suzzie! We should start the fat jeans graveyard! I honestly can't see a difference in my body at all. I don't expect to see one until I really lose more weight. But I had lunch with a friend today who I haven't seen in about 2 months and she kept saying how good I look and that I've lost weight -- she doesn't know I'm banded, so it meant a lot to hear it honestly from someone. My husband keeps saying that he can see that I've lost weight, but part of me thinks he's been saying it to make me feel good

Has anyone seen that show on the Travel Channel with Andrew Zimmern? he travels all over the world and eats weird things that most of us wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. Anyway, if TV is giving you cravings, then watch this show! You will never want to eat again! I used to watch The Barefoot Contessa every day. I LOVE Ina Garten. Now I won't go near it. I don't want to see whatever delicious things she is making.

I have a pair of jeans that I tried on about 3 weeks before surgery and they were SO tight, I could barely get them on. Now they fit me perfectly! I'm hoping they get to be too big for me soon...

My goal is to walk 45 minutes per day, at least 5 days a week, burning at least 350 to 400 calories on each walk (I wear a heart rate monitor).

Congrats, Michelle! And look out because Sirius is ADDICTIVE! I bought a Jeep in February and it came with a free year of Sirius. I ended up buying another subscription/radio for my home office, I love it so much.

I didn't really have any problems with bras. All my incisions are in the middle of my belly and all the swelling was down there. Maybe try wearing a bra that doesn't have underwire?

Medic Alert ID or not?
Lucy replied to anonemouse's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Kacee -- I had the same issue, it was really annoying that they didn't list the prices clearly anywhere. But Mandy is right with the answer. On top of that, you have to pay for the actual ID that you choose, but they are as little as $10 (and get up to the hundreds for the gold ones). -
I hear you, Jacqui! (and I hate Krispy Kremes, too!)
-
Good luck, Danbo! Let us know how you are when you feel up to it. In the next month or so I will definitely be up for a challenge, but I think it's a little early for me still. I'm mostly focused on healing and since I haven't had a fill yet, I'm not sure how fast the loss is going to be. I am exercising EVERY day, but I'm restricted to walking until my surgeon says I can do other forms of exercise.

I'm also not a huge fan of Kias or Hyundais. I have never personally owned one, but a friend of mine and I bought cars around the same time (this was about 6 years ago). I was just out of college and bought what I could afford -- a used 1993 Toyota Tercel with 176,000 miles on it. She bought a brand new Hyndai something (Elantra, I think). Over the next 2 years, all I had to do was change the oil and replace one headlight. In that same time, she had numerous problems and was always taking the car in for repairs -- mostly it was little dinky things, like the rearview mirror fell off and the radio had some problems, and then there was an electrical problem with the power windows and locks, and problems with the starter, and it went on and on. The car was under warranty, but it's almost a joke if you have to keep bringing the car back in. She finally got rid of it, but she ended up still owing money on the car after she sold it because it had significantly decreased in value. My best suggestion is do your research. There are a lot of good resources online that give consumer reports on specific vehicles. I do think Hyndai and some of the car companies that had very bad reputations in the 80's and 90's are improving, but overall, they still don't compete with some of the better Japanese companies. Even if you get a used Honda or Toyota, you might be better off than with a new Kia. That's just my view and experience with Korean cars. I'm sure there are a lot of people who have had good experiences with them.

I'm with Alexandra on this one. I usually order a "small, black coffee". they always look at me like I am crazy: "you don't want whipped cream on that? Or hazelnut Peanut Butter syrup?". And I refuse to use the Orwellian Starbucksspeak. NO, I don't want a "tall" coffee, I want a "small" coffee. Who the hell came up with the "tall, venti, grande" system? It doesn't even make any sense! They always correct me and I just glare back at them. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. To get back to the original question, does your wife like their cold drinks? The coffee light frappucino is something like 150 calories for a small and it's pretty good.
