  1. Hello, I am a female, 34 years old. I had my VSG surgery June 11, 2012 in St. John's, Newfoundland (Canada) by Dr. Pace. Like most of us, I have been up and down with my weight for most of my life. Always turning to food for comfort since I was a child living in foster homes for 5 years before my mother got my brother and I back. One particular foster home insisted that I only eat certain things and certain amounts because I could easily become over weight with my bone structure. True or not you should never say that to a child because years later she could end up 400 pounds. Not that I blame my weight on that only but that certainly played a great part in my turning to food for everything and anything that happened no matter happy or sad. The surgery went well. I only had bad gas pain the first night which I blame on the Dr. not sucking it all out. I had watched a video of a surgeon performing Vertical Sleeve Surgery and he mentioned that almost all doctors that performed the surgery forgot to suck the gas out of a certain part of the stomach after surgery causing severe gas pains. Well this happend to me and that is my only complaint so far about Dr. Pace and who knows maybe you are supposed to experience some gas pain but god it was horrible. Thank god it was only for about an hour tops. So I am doing ok. I am finding it very hard to get any liquids down let alone enough protein. I am making my water on a regular basics so I guess I am not dehydrated. I made a promise to myself that starting tomorrow I have to force myself to have a shake even if it's just the one a day until I can work myself up to 2. I don't have any regrets but I find myself wanting to chew on something. Almost like my mouth is missing doing all that work lol. Oh well. I know I will get used to it a little more everyday. The smell and taste of food is making me sick to my stomach but I am only 2 weeks out so I'm sure it will get better. Thanks for taking time to read my experience so far. I find this site very helpful
