Initially I was given two weeks worth of Lortab (Tylenol and viccodin) liquid. I didn't like it, I took it for two days after discharge and then switched to liquid Tylenol (Bubblegum!). Way better. We only take a few teaspoons so I'm not worried about the sugar content. I only needed the Tylenol for a day or two, then I just sucked it up. I take it occassionally now, like yesterday when I cleaned the house and wore pants that hurt my incision. If you know anyone who needs some Lortab.... Kidding!

I can eat more calorie no problem, I've already had a 700 cal day. When I read people three months out are barely getting that in, it worries me that I can do it already. Just trying to not let myself eat that much. I do eat too fast. I can eat a meal in 10-15 minutes. I do use small bowls and baby utensils. I go back to work next week and I travel so that means restaruant food and portions.

I got mine yesterday. I ordered a necklace and to the casual observer they probably won't notice the medical symbol unless they are checking out my jewelry but to a medical person it is obvious. The pendants is a dark grey scroll cross design but in the middle is the bright red symbol and it is raised to the touch. On the back is all my info so either way I think they would see it. Regardless, it makes me safer having it on.

No. Some get them others do not. I only had them while in the hospital. -

I bought one. Waiting for it to arrive. I included my Dr's number as well as no blind NG tube. I ordered from Lauren's Hope. They are a little pricey but it was important to me that mine look like jewelry and be discreet vs. shouting special medical condition.

Not sure how big your pill is but my Dr. said pills up to the size of an M&M were ok. I take my PPI capsule whole every day since coming home from the hospital without problem.

For most, there are several compounding factors right after surgery. Everyone is swollen and it can hurt to swallow. Also, that swelling can also mean it is hard to have liquid in your new tummy. Some experience nausea from the drugs as well as from anything they drink. For example, before I was sleeved, I never gave a thought to how much I drank or when. I drank when thirsty. Right after being sleeved, I experienced thirst but couldn't drink more than one ounce at a time. Hardly enough to quench thirst or stay hydrated. Now I can drink more that an ounce at a time, however to stay hydrated and assist with weight loss, I have to drink 64 oz a day. I have to schedule and track my water otherwise, I fall behind as I cannot chug a bottle of water like before surgery. Plus I'm supposed to eat 5 or 6 times a day but I'm not supposed to drink 30 min before eating or a hour after. You have to keep up with hydration and if you get busy, forget to drink, catching up can be really diffucult.

constipation 5 mths out

My doctor's office wasn't too worried if I wasn't regular if I wasn't feeling like I needed to go. So I take a stool softener (Dulcolax) so that I don't strain when it is finally time to go. Otherwise if I need to go but can't they recommend a starting with a half dose of milk of magnesia or a glycerin suppository if you feel "stuck." Sorry to be gross. Good luck, we all feel your pain, literally! -
Alternative to Protein Shake?
erp replied to kimikat3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the exact same problem right after surgery (2/20). If I watered down the Premier it seemed to help but I still felt like I was choking it down. I had to switch to Unjury, it mixes easily with only 8 oz of water so the consistency is nice and thin. You can order a sample pack online to give it a try. Also they have a chicken soup flavor that's not bad and a much needed break from vanilla and chocolate! -
I went with hiatal hernia. I was diagnosed with one during my EGD but more importantly, hernia repair includes soft foods right after surgery as part of the recovery.

Starting purees Monday! Two questions.
erp replied to katikati's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started purees. My biggest challenge by far has been eating slow enough. I started with pureed refried beans and they are ok if I eat them slow. Adding sour cream for extra "lube" helps too. I tried to get fancy by adding a little cheese and my sleeve did not like that, so I'll wait a few days before trying that again. Today I thinned out some mashed potatoes and so far that, apple sauce, and greek yogurt go down the easiest. Start with small portions, stop if it hurts. So far I eat about 1/4 cup of beans or potatoes. Enjoy! -
Experiment with the temperature, consistency, and flavor. I get slightly flavored room temp water down the best. I am a week out and just now getting most of my water in.

Remember that bridal sizes run smaller. -
There is an entire section on VSG in Mexico as well as do a search "Dr. Aceves" and you can read many people's experiences.

Chicken broth made me almost puke
erp replied to Susie1226's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like it. I read a tip to mix it first before heating and I nuked my mug with hot Water first so it would be hot when I poured it in. It's not something I want to drink everyday but it's passable. -
Complications and after care?
erp replied to KickRocks's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I understand feeling discouraged by your doctor's email. However he does bring up an important point, will your insurance cover you should you have an unauthorized procedure? I would worry less about who provides your aftercare and more about if your care would be covered. While no one wants a complication, you do have to be prepared. Good luck on your upcoming surgery.
