Thank you and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!
-
I agree with you as surgeons are not dietitians and giving nutritional counseling is out of their scope of practice. Calcium carbonate is not well absorbed regardless of if you have had surgery or not so I think you are on the right track in learning for yourself on this one. My NUT recommended Flintstones complete (purple bottle, chewable not gummies) and I still take them almost 4 years later. I also take calcium citrate and extra Vitamin D (was Vit D deficient well before surgery). My NUT now recommends a line of bariatric vitamins but that's profit motivated, my surgeon's office sells them.

98 pounds down and thinking about my goal
erp replied to Lori Franzen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
137 is a great goal. It would put you at somewhere around a size 6. That said, I went a few pounds below my goal so I would have wiggle room for the normal fluctuations that occur depending on hydration, Aunt Flo, etc. Try life at 137 and then you can adjust from there. If you like it, up your calories a bit to stop losing. If you don't like it, then keep doing what you are doing now to lose weight. As an aside, once I hit my goal weight (140) and dropped down for a "bounce" range (135-140), I then focused less on weight and more on body fat percentage. So lowering my body fat became my actual goal versus a scale weight. -
The application always displays profiles wonky. Mine has said that I'm a lap band patient and that I'm a senior citizen for a couple of years now but it is correct whenever I am on my desktop (I'm sleeved and won't be considered a senior citizen for another 20+ years).

21 lbs down and not even 1 week post op

Congratulations on your loss. That is unusually fast and is probably in part due to your young age. Either way, enjoy. [emoji4] -

How often do you weigh yourself?
erp replied to nlmguerrero's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Daily for the last 3 or so years. Lately it has been once a week. I will be starting a diet next month so I will probably weight more often, a few times a week. -
Calorie intake still very low and yet I'm picking up weight! Intro to soft foods
erp replied to Jess_eR's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
How much protein, carbs, fat, and water are you taking in each day? Without much to go on, I suspect you need to drink more water. If you are just now advancing to soft foods, you're a very recent post op. Put down the fork and pick up the water glass. Get at least 64 oz and wait 15 minutes after drinking before eating and one hour after eating before drinking. -
Cannot eat certain foods after 2 years!?
erp replied to Beedee90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What foods can you eat? Do you track and measure your food? There are still many healthy foods left. Dairy: Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt; milk and low fat cheeses. Soft meats- crockpot chicken, seafood, scrambled eggs, etc. Veggies: Have you puréed veggies into soups? Are green juices tolerable? What veggies can you eat and how do you prepare them? Do you eat grains, pasta, carbs? What kinds and how much? -

After 93 pnds how can I gain healthy weight (muscle)
erp replied to bariatrica14's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Body composition is 100% diet and exercise. If your diet is on point, meaning you are hitting your current protein and water goals, then exercise to build is needed. Download a program like Strong Lifts or Jamie Eason's Live Fit. As you do these programs add in one extra serving of protein and water daily. A serving is 20-30 grams of protein. -
At 5 weeks out this is all in the range of normal. 500 calories a day is fine as hitting your liquid and protein goals, add a shake if you need to. Your ability to eat more will come in time; you are just barely starting post op life don't rush it.

I mostly walked the first couple of months as I wasn't cleared to lift over 10 lbs until about 6 weeks out. I found it helpful to hire a personal trainer who made sure I lifted properly during my weight loss phase as my center of gravity and body awareness changed as the pounds came off.

If whey is a problem, look at vegetarian options like Vega Sport or egg protein like Jay Robb.
-
If your body is telling you full liquids is too much then back off of them. I was still on Clear Liquids for the first week.
-
Assuming you are on regular foods, I get the green beans with chicken kids meal at Panda Express with veggies as the side. I give the cookie to my husband.

It will be four years in February. Still the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Relationship challenges after sleeve
erp replied to Corrie2016's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
WLS had no impact on my relationship. We were together for years before surgery and are still together almost 4 years post op. -
Eating normal as in pre surgery normal
erp replied to laylalayla's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't get it. "I don't have mental issues with food" but you wanted to remove 85% of your stomach? If you don't have issues, were you not able to go on a diet? Not trying to sound mean but I seriously don't get this post. If you were looking for temporary fix then don't seek a permanent alteration to your anatomy. However, since you are sleeved, then you surely know that people don't keep losing weight forever, it does stop. So your asking us what? -
Water, water with citrus slices or mint leaves, caffeine free tea, water with Mio or similar... sensing a pattern? Drink water.

7 weeks out and traveling, no appetite, can't eat a thing!
erp replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could only eat around 400 calories that early out also. Focus on hydration tomorrow and if people ask tell them the truth. You aren't feeling great and don't have an appetite- you don't have to elaborate with all the details as to why. -
Do what you enjoy. For me that meant trying different classes and programs to figure what I like. I started with a walking program that prepares you to run a 5k. I also tried Zumba classes, Muy Thai boxing, and hip hop dance classes. Ultimately, I found that I enjoy strength training. To that end, I would recommend the book, "New Rules of Weight Lifting".

Would You Now Date Someone Over Weight?
erp replied to GourmetH20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am more than my weight and so is everyone else. I have been attracted to overweight men and well as men who are at a healthy weight. It just depends on who the person is and what their personality is like.
