  1. The best fruit is whatever you can tolerate. Depending on how far out you are you may need to avoid fruits with thick membranes e.g. Oranges.
  2. Honestly, everyone worries so much about protein the first week but it isn't necessary. Focus on staying hydrated, walking and getting rest. Good luck!

    Vitamins

If it helps you form the habit, start now. You may not be able to keep them down the first few days after surgery.
  4. I had to thin them out as well in the beginning.
  5. I began clearing the closet as soon as I got into missy sizes. I found end of season sales at Macy's, etc. worked great as I lost weight.

    Eating too much?

Thirst acts like hunger as well. Start by hitting your liquid goal to see if it helps. Focus on dense protein to reach satiety.
  7. I had to "train" myself to eat breakfast. Usually I'm not very hungry so I have a protein shake.

    Strength Training

I wasn't cleared until 4 weeks out and didn't start exercising until 6 weeks. Please take it easy and heal right now. I know it is exciting to lose weight and you want to lose it ASAP! Walking is plenty at 3 weeks out. After you have healed, you can accomplish a lot simply by using your own body weight. Push ups, planks, tricep dips, squats and lunges require no equipment and are highly effective. Bodybuilding.com has a great pictorial library of exercises you can do.

    Personal trainer

I have been working out with a trainer for 1 year now. I started for the same reasons as you- I was clueless and intimidated by weights. Weight training with a trainer has helped me bud muscle and progress from 5 and 8 lbs dumbbells to now using 15-20 lbs dumbbells. It is an expense and I put $ aside each month so that I can prepay for a large block of sessions. Doing that allows my trainer to give me a break on the overall cost and keeps me committed dice it is all prepaid. Just make sure that before you commit you are working with someone you are comfortable with. Here's a little "muscle" shot for inspiration and remember "sore today, strong tomorrow".

    bike riding

We just got bikes last weekend and even though I workout a lot- Wow! It was a quad buster. We'll go riding again this weekend . I hope to learn to love it because right now it feels like work.
  11. My doc gave me a goal of 170-160. At 5'4" I felt like that was too high. My goal was to be a healthy weight for my height; I didn't have surgery to stay overweight. I set my goal based on BMI and more importantly body composition (BMI <30, body fat <28%). I am now under my personal goal and working on my stretch goal so that I can have a "bounce" range.
  12. I kept my choice private for a number of reasons: 1) I found that people felt free to openly express disapproval whereas if someone said they were having a different type of surgery, like heart bypass surgery, no one would openly judge or discourage 2) my body, my business. I wouldn't tell everyone about upcoming hemorrhoid surgery if I were having that either 3) I want to live my life without food police or watchful "is that all you're going to eat?" eyes.

    I don't get it.....

Congrats on your loss so far. Don't get discouraged. You didn't list your start weight but know that the heavier you are the more you have to lose to drop sizes. The bust measurement of a 3x garment can accommodate a bust from 53-48 inches around whereas a size 4 garment can accommodate a bust of 33-34 inches. So if you are a 3x, in 65 pounds, you could have lost 5 inches and still wear the same size clothes whereas if I lose 5 pounds, I drop a size. Keep doing what you are doing because once the sizes drop, they go very fast and it can get expensive!

    What is the best fitbit?

I like the flex because I can shower with it on but hate the short battery life. Charge only last 24 hours and after having Fitbit send me a new one that had the exact same problem, I gave up. I have heard that Apple is coming out with something. I will be first in line for that when it comes out.

    Does anyone regret it?

Not a single regret. I could have never gotten to this weight on my own. Good luck to you.
  16. Depends on where I am. I usually give in if their is something right in front of me. Generally I try to not bring too much junk into the house. What I don't do anymore is hop in the car and go to the store to indulge in something bad.
  17. It does seem like hydration and protein are at odds early on. I found that watered down protein shakes helped with both.

    Excess skin

Please don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Either so much wrong with this article.
  20. I was getting in about 30 grams that early out. Don't stress. Hydration is more important right now. I set an eating and drinking schedule early on and that helped. I also added powdered milk to things to help boost the protein.

    Calorie Intake - Postop VSG

This early out 700 calories is fine. I gradually increased mine. I was around 500 at 4-8 weeks out. 700 cals around 4 months out, 800 at 6-8 months, etc. I hit my initial WL goal at about 13 months out and now eat around 1300 cals. You will increase cals over time and find a balance.

  23. Congrats RJ! Keep us posted on what you find out. I keep toying with the idea of plastics but am fortunate that my skin does not impede my mobility.

    Isopure ready to drink

I may have to try this. Frankly anything that makes those palatable is worth a shot.
