  1. Not sure we ever re-regulate. We had extra insulation and now we don't. Layers are my friend.

    Skin shrinkage

I am 41and was overweight my entire life unless WLS. I have excess skin and would love plastics but it is not in my immediate future. I am in shape now and while I do have excess skin from 39 years of obesity, it is livable and continues to improve. I highly recommend you weight train during this process. This was yesterday:
  3. That was a noticeable difference for me. I looked healthier, started to gave more of a glow.

    Sleevers

    Thankfully, I don't have one.
  5. My doctor set a goal that I found demotivating and disappointing. I set my own goals to keep me motivated and focused.

    The things people eat!

OP- please take the advice earlier, talk to post ops, attend a support group, get counseling or whatever you need because surgery will not fix you. We still have to do the work. Develop a plan and strategies now. I have found the saying "failing to plan is a plan for failure" to be true in my experience. I understand that you didn't mean to judge but rather you are naive to the realities of what life will be like after surgery. Keep reading and asking questions because hoping to be successful post op won't make it so.
  7. ^^^I think that's totally possible if in eating real sugar or full fats means that you are good with probably have to limit them or use them sparingly.
  8. Well as usual, I'm going to be contrary. I eat diet food if I didn't I'd consume at least 4 spoons of sugar a day drinking my tea alone. So in goes the Splenda. I like Crystal Light and Mio, they help me get my water in. I love low fat dairy, grew up on 1-2%. Can't stomach the idea of regular milk. I'm fast friends with sugar free pudding it makes my smoothies thick like a milk shake without ice cream's fat and calories. My NUT encourages these things but also a balanced diet with lots of veggies and some fruit. I use low fat dressing because I want more than 2 tablespoons on my salad. I think it's just preference and how you want to get to goal. I like to eat, a lot, so anywhere I can shave off a few calories here and there seems like a bonus to me.

    Chia seeds

I'm not a fan of chia gel texture either. Got a whole bag in the pantry. I will eat them crunchy by just tossing a few on top of yogurt but other than that I can't handle them once they soak. They seem fine in our stomachs if you are fully healed since the serving size is small; I've never had a problem.
  10. The fact that you said, you love the way to look and feel answers your questions. From my experience, there were weights I felt great at and weights that I felt uncomfortable in my skin at. I felt amazing at 160 and a size 10 not so great at 145 as an 8. Your body will guide you, if you want to go lower, than try it out if not, don't worry because you love the way you look and feel.

    The things people eat!

I go through bouts of eating healthy and bouts of eating junk. We're human and yes some people will f'up completely. Some people will get tired of feeling like they are on a diet all the time and indulge from time to time. Others will have no problems making good food choices all the time. However your judgement of these ladies is why a lot of people keep surgery a secret because the food police come out to patrol and judge. Since you are pre-op, talk to more post ops. Read the veteran's forum because surgery doesn't "fix you". Most likely you will not wake up hating French fries or whatever it is you like to indulge in and for the record, I ate salt Water taffy, Cookies, and drank wine last week. Good luck in your journey.
  12. The guys said no, it's ok.
  13. I am thankful for this body. I have abused, improperly fed it, and turned away from it in disgust in the mirror. I am amazed that it lets me now run 5ks, lift weights and now admire it for what it allows me to do.

    Protein Bar's and powder

They make S'mores Quest bars now and they are awesome. Perfect for dessert.
  15. Lotion does not affect excess skin . Sorry. I found that time and regular exercise has helped the most. Even so I will always have some extra skin unless I have plastics.

    Gym Routine Exercise

Cardio and weight training are a perfect combo but they don't have much impact on skin. They do make you look awesome in clothes though! To the OP, I did strength training 3 days a week and cardio 2 (jogging ) days a week the first year. Now I still do the weights 3 days a week but mix it up the other days with yoga, bootcamp, etc.
  17. A lot of the "too thin" comments I got were either from people projecting their issues on to me, i.e. they are unhappy with their weight or they didn't like how my weight loss was changing the dynamics of our relationship (no longer the fat friend). Regardless, I used several "goal" indicators for myself. I wanted a: normal BMI, body fat under 30%, and a healthy weight for my height (140 lbs). When I hit all three I decided I had met my goal and was done. I would like to lose a few more pounds and get to 130 lbs, 24% body fat but that's for vanity. I wear a small/medium in clothes, size 4 or 6 dress depending on the brand. I'm good.
  18. Go to your doctor. Too many symptoms to know if they are related or not. I had chronic dry skin because I was eating so low fat early on. Solutions could be simple- I take fish oil or the problem could be more serious like some of the maladies already mentioned. Keep us posted on what your doctor says. Feel better soon.

    Fab 40's shout out

You can and will. I did two 5ks my first year post op. 40 and beyond really does just keep getting better.
  20. "You have lost a TON of weight" always with heavy emphasis on the word TON and quickly followed up with, "so how much have you lost?" I feel like I'm letting them down that rather than having lost 1,000 pounds, it only 100.
  21. Ok got it. Here's how I did it. I upped calories progressively- 100 or so for a month at a time by adding more fats in like avocado, butter and a few higher fat meats on occasion (bacon!).
  22. I exercise 4-6 days a week and only need about 1300 calories. Are you large framed or tall? At less than a year out, I wouldn't up my calories that much until I got to goal.
