My only real advice is to start small. I found that the things I did before surgery, Sweating to the Oldies, step aerobics and the like are not what I like now. So don't overbuy any equipment. Try new things and there are free workouts on YouTube (Bloglates, etc). As my fitness level increased my interest in certain forms of exercise changed. For example, I learned along the way that I hate running. I did the Couch25k app and completed three 5ks but don't plan to run one ever again. Be prepared though, when you do find what you love, your home gym will grow. I have an entire room now!

My elliptical folds up but realistically, I leave it unfolded alongside of the wall so that it is out of the way. I've done some of the Jillian Michaels DVDs and they are good but they just aren't my thing. The majority of my cardio comes from body weight moves that require no equipment like step ups, split jumps, high knees, jump squats, etc. I also have a jump rope that also gets the heart going. For strength, I started with 3, 5, and 8 lb. dumb bells combined with body weight moves: lunges, squats, bent over row, etc.

Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge
erp replied to vsgSarah3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
143 today. The dog died last week. ???? I ate my feelings. Back on track now. -
Where's the water? Hunger and thirst are often confused. A half hour or hour after eating you should be drinking a low cal or no cal beverage versus eating.
-
It does get better with time but like our food, we create a new normal. At three years out I still don't like ice water except on rare occasions and even then I sip it. I mostly prefer room temperature or warmer beverages and I need some kind of flavoring. I drink a lot of Hint brand water.

Help! When will I regain my energy?
erp replied to Segulah613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My energy wasn't related to calories but more to time since surgery. Surgery takes out more than just your stomach, you're under anesthesia, and have wounds that need to heal. I had plenty of fat on my body to sustain me so that wasn't my cause for fatigue, rather I was still recovering from major surgery at 7 weeks out. Be kind to yourself, take it easy, and don't force more food in. -
900 calories at 4 months is fine. So ignoring is an okay option. Are you meeting your protein and water goals? If so, make sure you are physically hungry and not mentally hungry- I eat when bored. I eat when tired. I also confuse thirst for hunger. So start with an extra glass of water and if you are still hungry after a bit add a low cal snack like string cheese. You will eventually be increasing your calories as you continue to heal. Plus 900 vs 1000 calories for an active person still keeps you in a deficit to lose weight. If you find you stall for a significant period of time then reevaluate. I am 3 years out and can lose weight on 1100-1200 cals.

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
erp replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Working of the holiday gain and bloat. Was 148 on Monday. Down to 141.5 today. I knew I could regain but I am amazed at how quickly you can pack on the lbs. For a few weeks, none of my clothes fit and my edema came back, which I hadn't experienced in over two years. Now my 6s are back on but 4s are still tight. By dropping another 3-4 pounds, the 4s will fit again. The way plus size clothes are made, I could gain 15 pounds and still wear a 2x, now just a few pounds makes such a difference. Grateful to have a sleeve that still works when I work it. -
Great post Alex. Bought two Jaxx fit packs at Sam's club just for this purpose. I do okay when I am at the office but when I travel, I lose it. I'm going to start trying to pack lunch and snacks for when I'm on the road. http://m.samsclub.com/ip/jaxx-fitpak-with-portion-control-containers-leak-proof-containers/prod19545059

I couldn't eat that much that early out and I still needed shakes and/or bars to hit my protein numbers. Don't compare yourself to others. Every journey is different. I was at about 600 cals at 4 months. I progressed my calories in a similar way as Kindle outlined.

Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge

Starting weight 148 Goal was 130 but 138 seems more reasonable. ???? -
I miss eating bread, sparkling Water, plain water and eating a plate of French fries. I don't miss being out of breath walking up stairs, wearing clothes just because they fit and not because I like them. I don't miss my double chin.

No support - how do you do it?
erp replied to New day ahead's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My husband was against surgery too but I didn't hide anything from him. He is now supportive but he is a feeder. He is always plying me with food. There is a difference between unsupportive, uneducated, and unwilling. I think I would act like your husband because you did this behind his back. I would be resentful. You owe him a serious apology. If he forgives you, then you need to begin to educate him and let him know that some foods will no longer be in the house. I imagine it only takes finding the donuts in the trash a couple of times before he stops buying them. Similarly I would try to make him feel like part of the process. Choose two sleeve friendly dinners (e.g. chili or ricotta bake) as him which one he wants for dinner. Include him and he may come around. -

I took two weeks off and was antsy to get back but the first month back was tough, I got tired very easily. Looking back, I think I could have used another week to rest.

I make oatmeal and add a scoop of protein powder.

What are you guys eating?
erp replied to jonharo22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Typical day for me at almost 3 years out: Breakfast- 1/4 c oatmeal with 1 scoop Protein powder mixed in or a Protein Bar (usually Think Thin or Quest) AM snack- half a Premiere Protein shake mixed in to coffee or tea Lunch- salad with 2 oz chicken and crackers or leftovers from a previous meal PM snack- Protein bar, 5-6 Hershey's miniatures from the receptionist's desk (damn her and her chocolates) Dinner- Deli meat and cheese roll up with a salad or baked chicken with veggies and 1/3 sweet potato Late night snack- nuts or popcorn or string cheese I eat around 1,500 calories a day. To lose weight I drop to about 1200 calories by cutting carbs and add a day of cardio. -
Breakfast is either oatmeal with a scoop pf protein powder stirred in, scrambled eggs, a protein shake or a protein bar.

Questions about prenatal vitamins and nutrition.
erp replied to SybrgreenTX's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
How many calories are you eating and what are your macros? You should not need to take both the prenatal and bariatric vitamins but compare the labels. Both my prenatal and bariatric vitamins have 800 mcg of folate, which is key early in pregnancy. You may need to up calcium depending on how much you are taking now and add a EFAs if you haven't already. My OB program had me add an extra 300 calories a day but I was already at 1300 cals. Congratulations momma!
