What Can You Eat Post-Op?
Nate replied to thehappycat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery a little over a week ago. Right now I'm able to to eat things like small amounts of lowfat yogurt, sugar free jello and pudding, cream soups as long as the solids are strained out of them, and the thing I look forward to the most lol... runny cream of wheat for breakfast. Any type non caffeinated beverage, juices as long as they're diluted with a little water, no OJ right now though.. probably an acid thing. Sadly I've found I have no tolerance for milk any longer and I used to love it. -
Getting Ready For A New Beginning
Nate replied to EcuaTrucho's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know exactly what you're going through my friend. I just have my surgery last Tuesday at 505lbs. Nine months before that I weighed 570lbs and had to loose weight just to get the surgery done. It was hard, but I wouldn't change a thing. In the short time since my surgery I'm already down 15lbs. You'll be dropping the pounds in no time also, just keep at the liquid diet and don't get discouraged! -
My Surgery was done on a Tuesday and I was sent home early that Friday. It would honestly be best to discuss it with your Doctor though, he would be able to tell you exactly how long to take off depending on the type of job you have IE: driving/lifting restrictions etc..

Need To Build Muscle.. Not Sure How To Start
Nate replied to CodenameSpivey's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Protein and lots of water with some simple weight training. even if its just lifting cans of corn if you don't have small dumbells. Your muscles feed on the protein.Just take a whey protein supplement a few times a day if you can and do some strength building excercises and you'll be fine in no time -
It's only been a week since my surgery. I've been doing great so far also, drinking lots of Water, only eating a few ounces of Soup or broth at a meal with a little Jello as a treat afterwards. Since surgery i'm down 13 lbs now. Whats driving my crazy though is being around others while they're eating normal food. I'm not feeling hungry or anything, but I have MAJOR urges to scarf down anything I can when I smell or see real food. It's been so bad at time instances that I've had to go outside while everyone was eating and go for a walk just so I wouldn't be around the food. I'm hoping this is just a phase I can get past with a little will power.

My Doctor said that abnormal hair loss is a possible side effect of the surgery due to the trauma and stress your body undergoes. He also said that it's just a passing thing and would be fine in a matter of a few months. Hopefully it will pass soon for you.

Blood Sugar Levels At A Alltime "healthy" Low!
Nate replied to IrishSoul's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm a week post op myself and my sugaris also doing great. consistantly between 85-100 and only near 110 after I eat my liquid diet currently. I do imagine once we get on more substantial solid foods our sugar levels will increase, but nothing like it used to be. Just keep monitoring your levels and keep up the good work! -
Just found the forum and decided to join. Its nice to be someplace with people who know what Im going through, and that I can talk to and wont be judgemental. Had my surgery last Tuesday. It was supposed to be a full Bypass surgery, but my Doctor decided against it when he got inside, due to some scarring from a major hernia I had a few years back and an enlarged liver. But everything went well and I've already lost 11 lbs since surgery. Have a long way to go but its a start.

My Doctor told me that having the surgery is not only a life but lifestyle changing experience that will test every bit of will and determination you have. That is the scariest part. The surgery is nothing. Yes there are risks, but they are minimal. Very minimal compared to how long you may live if you continue on as you are now. As far as the risk of your stomach leaking after surgery, the odds of that happening are very very small. Your Doctor will staple, clamp, and glue you. And the morning after surgery they will take an Xray to make sure nothing is leaking.
