30 Pounds In 61 Days
Nate replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different when it comes to the rate they lose weight. But 30lbs in two months isn't bad when you think about it. i'm sure others can give advice on what to do diet wise to help lose weight faster or bust that stall. So I'll leave that up to people better in the know than myself. But honestly don't get discouraged... 30lbs is a really good start. -
I Have A Feeling I'm Going To Be Difficult Lol
Nate replied to Huntingnurse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may not be wearing sweat pants if you wake up with a catheter! I woke up with one in after surgery and was shoked as hell lol. Just relax. How hard is it to let others wait on you for a few days instead of you doing it for others? Enjoy it the best you can! -
Sounds pretty good!

Arghhhh....6 Month Weight Management
Nate replied to GiGi3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's somewhat common. My insurance required me to go through 9 months of weight management appointments and support groups as well. I think some companies make you jump through hoops to prove your comitment. Thats the only thing I could think of. -
Everyone is different though. And larger people with a higher BMI like myself tend to loose more quicker.

just a little over 2 months out and I'm down 55 pounds.

Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story?
Nate replied to Birdy18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was one of the lucky ones. After my surgery I had ZERO pain or fatigue. The nurses even commented that I handled pain like a Champ because I wasn't using my pain pump. They were even more surprised when I told them I had no pain at all. I was even up and walking around the next morning. I would have probably been up and walking that day but my Doc thought it best for me to stay on bed rest for at least one full day. Now after I got home, that was a different story. For almost two weeks I was wore down and did nothing but want to sleep. -
It's normal to worry. I was a bundle of nerves right up til they knocked me out on the table at surgery time. I'm a pretty big guy and was considered high risk for surgery, and I pulled through just fine. You'll be OK as well. Just keep telling yourself that these people are trained professionals who do these surgeries daily without a hitch. They're well trained for any situation. So try to relax a little. You're going to be fine! it's seriously over before you realize it once the whole process gets started.

Yes that sounds like a wisdom tooth giving you problems. When mine was giving me trouble on one side and had to come out I had the symptoms of a sore throat, ear ache, swollen face and neck, and a stiff neck. You should get to a dentist if possible and get it looked at.
-
In almost every case now the surgery is done laproscopicly. When mine was done I ended up with 4 small incisions across my stomach. They don't like to do the full open surgery unless it is absolutely necessary.

Haven't been able to check in for a while, but I'm back finally. Had my 6 week appointment last a last Friday. Everything is going great and I've offically lost 50lbs! Still struggling with head hunger at times and craving lots of stuff I should stay away from. But I've made my first big step, never thought I'd even get this far.

Body Piercing-Surgery Question
Nate replied to amykins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They will probably have you remove them. I remember in my pre-surgery appointment I was told to wear no glasses, rings, or any other forms of jewelery. Body piercings would fall into the "other forms of jewelery" category. -
Gastric Sleeve Video On Youtube
Nate replied to Sherry77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive seen a couple of them on YouTube. They're not so bad. -
That's bogus. Sorry. If it's any consolation, I had to go through almost a year of classes, psych evals and tests before my lame insurance company would allow me to get the surgery. Seemed like there were a thousand different hoops to jump through. It will be over before you know it.

Why Did You Choose The Sleeve?
Nate replied to pebbles99's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The Sleeve wasn't my choice. When i went in for surgery it was for the RNY Bypass. When i woke up my Surgeon told me that due to a large liver and some massive scar tissue in my abdomen from a hernia I had repaired in 2005 he decided to give me the sleeve rather than opening me fully up and performing an open surgery. Now that i have my sleeve. have found this site, and done my research on it, I think it's the best thing he could have done for me. -
My fiance made my favorite meal yesterday. pork chops, garlic potatoes, french cut green Beans, and cottage cheese. I over did it and ate a little too much and let me tell you what... my body revolted! I got a tightness in my stomach, that feeling in my throat like i was going to throw up, a chill came over me, and I felt like i was breaking out into a sweat. I NEVER want to experience that feeling again! Is that what they consider dumping?
-
Ehh it's normal. I was a total prick to people the first couple weeks after my sleeve. Didn't mean to be or want to be. I was just in a super crabby moob and anything and anybody irritated the heck out of me. I guess we all react differently. Just hang in there and it will hopefully pass soon.

I like to prepare it like you would for chili or spaghetti, then mix in half a bag of frozen peas and frozen diced carrots, and a couple tablespoons of your favorite Chinese or Japanese sauce. I've tried the garlic sauce and hoisin sauces and both were really good. I plan to experiment with something different next time I make it, maybe a little spicier.

What Do You Think Of Herbalife? That's The Only Shake With Protein That I Like. It Does Not Have An After Taste.

If you like it and it's an adequate form of protein great! Everyone's taste buds are different. Drink what you like. -
Removal Of X-Tra Stomach?
Nate replied to ConnieSings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc suggested walking an average of 30-45 minutes a day. He said If I'm able to do more vigorous exercise eventually great, but just the act of walking would work wonders towards helping loose weight, and build stamina. If you're worried, I'm sure there are lots of low impact exercises that others can share that wouldn't bother you at all, and may help more in the long run.
