Just like so many others, I've fought my weight all my life. I've tried just about every 'fad diet' ever invented, and think I invented a few myself. I checked into weight loss surgery (the first time) when I was about 24 yrs old. Back then, it was considered plastic surgery, therefor insurance wouldn't cover it. I've tried exercising, joining gyms, you name it...all with limited success, followed by horrible failure which just depressed me even more than I was before.
Fast forward to January 2012, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. As the genealogist in my family, I've recorded many of my ancestors that had passed from diabetes and other weight related causes of death. Talk about a slap in the face/wake up call! I had previously talked to my PCP about weight loss surgery (Lap band specifically). She was all for it (She'd also had the lap band done a few years ago). So I talked to her again, more seriously than before. Regardless what others thought or said about it. I knew that to get the weight off and KEEP it off, I was going to have to use drastic measures. Especially since no one knows me like I know me! (Even though many seem to think they do...) I went to the seminar on April 14, 2012. Which was also the day I stopped smoking (THAT at times has NOT been easy!) Without smoking and soon to be without eating as a 'comfort'. I'm hoping to re-route my stress reliever to exercising. After jumping through all the hoops for insurance, my surgery (Vertical sleeve) will take place at 1 PM on August 24th, 2012. I consider this date to be my Re-Birth. My pre-op visit with the surgeon and hospital is August 14th the same day I start my pre-op diet.....to be continued
