Explain your perfect restriction and how much you could eat
HarleyNana replied to Monica's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think I've experienced "perfect" restriction. I'm either too tight or a smidgen too loose. Nothing worse than being too tight and having to pb everything you eat, although I pretty much call my pb....the slime. Unfortunately, I don't usually know I'm full until it starts to come back, errrr! -
I'm in the roofing business. I'm trying to be semi-retired. My two sons are pretty much taking over things now and I have a very bright assistant who pretty much does my job now, (what she really wants is my office and paycheck, LOL). We work about 8 crews of about 6-8 men per crew, plus my office, warehouse and delivery people. I've been around roofers so long I tend to use the language they use, so I have to really watch myself when I'm with other ladies. I also invest in real estate and rent out homes and manage all the properties. I understand your feelings about dressing for the office, I had gotten to a point I didn't like to go out socially, I was so tired of always being the heaviest person there. Thank goodness for my band. Good luck with your surgery.

Been there done that, I was the first band for my doctor. So, every seminar or nutritional class that I went to was geared for bypass. As for the remarks, I wouldn't worry about it, I made my choice and I have absolutely no regrets, and I still have all my parts where they're suppose to be.

Banded April 29 and just regained my appetite
HarleyNana replied to BeckyinTexas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I eat a zone bar really slow, because I have to lol, it really fills me up. When I feel like I have to have something right then and there, I grab a piece of the viactiv vitamin or the one for calcium. Of course, you're only suppose to have a couple of the calcium one a day. Sure takes care of that desire for something sweet and it's healthy. -
I'm so glad Betty told me about the apple juice. Now apple juice is a part of my "regular" routine everyday, and I've never been regular..... if you know what I mean.

Well, after 36 years, if he does have a problem, then it's just that, his problem. I did this for me, not my DH, and he knows it. I've been a people pleaser and family peacemaker for all these years, by golly, now it's my turn and they can kiss my grits.

Been there done that, and I have the band, LOL. Tuesday, I ate off and on all day, little bits, but nachos and cheese dip, talk about good, but not good. Today's another day, it will be better.

Hello, I'm a new member.
HarleyNana replied to Bernie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Bernie, finding the right fill is the trick. Many of us have a number of fills before it's the right one. I'd give it another week and if you still don't have restriction, I'd would call and schedule another fill. Don't give up, it's not magic, but it is a wonderful tool to assist in this journey. -

Some questions I have...Please answer...
HarleyNana replied to Lisa Marie C's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good Morning All ~ I have a few questions for those who have had the lap-band surgery... 1. How long were you out of work? Surgery Monday, stopped into the office on Thursday, (shhh, drove myself too). 2. Explain to me what getting "stuck" feels like. If you're talking about needles, ouch, if you're talking about food, think of swallowing a golf ball. 3. How soon after surgery can you begin to excercise? Now that you mentioned it, I'm going to start real soon. 4. Were you afraid to eat after the surgery? Not afraid at all, but I was very respectful of my band, ate very slowly, took very small bites, (used baby spoon and fork at first), and chewed ALOT! 5. If you have a spouse/significant other.. How did they handle your weight loss? My dh is thrilled, years ago when I was younger he used to *itch about my weight a lot, then as we got older it didn't bother him so much. He makes over it almost every day, he's very happy, but I remind him often, I'm glad he's happy, but I did it for me. -
CONGRATULATIONS! You've waited long enough, I'm so happy for you. It will be here before you know it, and most importantly, rest assured, you've made a wonderful decision. You will succeed.

I can feel my port, which is rather hard. It's an interesting feeling. I tell people who know about my surgery, to touch it, then they'll say, "eww, what is that", then I laugh and have to explain the port thing.

I Have An Option-need Your Advice
HarleyNana replied to I'llsucceed's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think the scar is that big, at least mine isn't and it's right in the waistline. Most 2 pc suits now are high cut on the legs with a regular waistline. At my age, I don't see a 2pc of any type in my future, lol, so placement was not a concern, also my port is sewn into the muscle. I too would worry about the length of the tube from the band to the port, but then again, I'm not a doctor. -
Oh my gosh, if I drank anything while eating or even right before eating, I'd have the monster pb attack. I just by accident picked up a bottle of water and took a big gulp after having eaten something small, I thought I was gonna throw up or pass out. I know Betty drinks right up until she eats with no problem, but I can't even do that.

Mine is on the right side, just below the rib cage and it is sewn into the muscle so it will be less likely to shift or move. Some days it's more sensitive than others.

1st fill today...questions
HarleyNana replied to jennani's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
My mom got her first fill last week and didn't think it was doing anything, then today she had two episodes with pb, I explained to her that everyone is different and their fills react differently, some immediately, like me, others a week or two later. Be sure to chew, chew, chew and smaller bites. Good luck! -
Woohoo Betty, way to go, stayed the same here.

I was taking the liquid, green, yuky, Source of Life, then switched to Viactiv, which also doubles as a chocolate fix.
-
Joe, I'm 55 and had the surgery in December, still at 54 then, but my mom who is 73 was banded April 7th and doing great. My port is on my right side and today was the first time I've been fishing since getting my band, wouldn't you know my port is right where I put my rod when I'm reeling in my big catch. I learned to place the rod in a different spot real fast.

will i ever be able to sleep on my stomach again?
HarleyNana replied to nygrl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't have any problems sleeping on my stomach, but if I turn to roll over too quickly I feel like I just pulled my port loose, so I try to be more cautious rolling and tumbling. -
I had not doubt this was meant for me, I'd do it again in a heartbeat and $16,750.00, LOL.

Woohoo, good for you girl. Welcome to bandland. Ya gotta keep us informed, we're a little nosey around here.
