    June 2007 Bandsters

Morning everyone! Good luck to our banders this week! I'm very excited for you! I have to share something though... I did really well this past week eating-wise. Just eating really healthy, trying to modify my portions, etc. Dropped almost 3 pounds. I went through a period for about an hour when I thought that "you know, I think I could do this on my own and not spend this XXX amount of money which could go towards bills." My husband was trying to be supportive, but I could tell he didn't think it was a good idea. Sure enough, later that evening we went out to dinner to Mexican (since he is starting his diet tomorrow - Atkins), and I ended up eating a huge portion of my fajitas. I realize I really need this surgery. I really need this tool to help me curb my portions.

Huntersmom, that is really scary!!! I'm glad you are "back with it." As for me, I'm still a week away from my pre-surgery diet, but I have been working really hard this week eating better (not great admittedly) and starting to exercise. And I lost 3 pounds!! I basically took out all fried foods and high-sugary foods out this past week. Since I don't drink soda, I don't really have to worry about that. I exercised 3 times this week (boy, am I out of shape). But still - 3 pounds!! Whoo hoo!

    What was the last straw?

    * For me it was not being able to or wanting to be active with my two young kids. * Watching other families go on hikes, bike ride together, and go swimming. * I wouldn't be caught dead on a Water slide at our water park, and I know how much I would love it because that really is "my thing." * Having the terror on my son's soccer team ask me if I had swallowed a christmas tree ornament (the kid is a jerk anyway, not just with me but with everyone). * Not caring how I look anymore * Getting jealous of my beautiful, gorgeous 3-year-old daughter because she gets to wear so many cute clothes * Always feeling like "fat parent" when I go to school to pick up one of my kids .... the list goes on and on...

    Found some fun snack holders!!!

Very good! Both for me and my son's camp!
  7. The only DVDs I actually got into were the Walk Away the Pounds ones. I'm not sure why because they are actually kind of monotonous, but they keep my attention and I complete them every time!

It is so great to hear from everyone! I tell ya, as a newbie here, it is hard to keep up with everyone. Heck, this group needs their own board since there are so many great people and good conversations here! As for me, I'm on my pre-pre-surgery diet. I don't actually start my pre-surgery diet until the 14th, but I've started eating really healthy this week and have cut out all my usual suspects (fried foods, fattening stuff, etc.). This weekend I'm going to start playing with the protein drinks and figure out how I can make them taste decent. Anyone have some good recipes to share? The more variety the better! LOL
  9. I agree with this completely. You are hardly selfish. It would have been one thing as others have said if you had a large enough place that could accommodate that many people and still be able to give you your "space." Depression or not, that is just a LOT of people to deal with, especially ones you rarely see, in such a small space. Stand strong. We'll be here for you!
  10. Well, I got my date! June 28th. I'm excited, anxious, and just a bit apprehensive going into this. Talk about a life-changing event! Great to meet you all!

    Celebrities with lap band

Randy Jackson and Al Roper had RNYs I believe, and both of them gained the weight back.

    cpap ?

From my reading up on lap bands so far, I don't think CPAP will be a problem. Unfortunately, sleep apnea is one of the co-morbidities of being overweight. I'm sure the hospital would provide you one during your time there. You may want to contact your doctor's nurse to see if she can be of help or at least direct you to someone who can provide answers before your doctor gets back.

    Help - I'm dizzy

Definitely call the doctor again tomorrow. If the dizziness becomes more continuous, I actually think a trip to the ER may be in order. I work for a neurologist and have learned that dizziness is not a symptom you want to take lightly, especially if you are able to repeat it by doing the same action. Hope you feel better soon!

    Why remove the band!

I met a woman about 6 months ago who had the band removed because of slippage problems. Eventually she developed an infection due to another gastrointestinal procedure, and she just never had it put back in.
  20. Hey neighbor - I think the fear that something will go wrong is just part of our psyche, especially for me as an overweight person dealing with bits and pieces of depression throughout the years. What is working for me is looking into my two kids faces, ages 6 and 3, and getting slapped in the face with everything my emotional and physical body is limiting me to. This procedure is not just a physical one for us. It is a complete lifestyle change - mind, body, and soul. It is one of the risks we have to take in life to get there, but for me anyway, it is one I have to take.
  21. You know, even though I'm 4 weeks away, this is the total mindset I am working myself into. Go team banding!
