Just completed it:) -
Excellent. This is my first day back to work so it is good to hear I won't need to worry about this!

How long does the charge stay up on the FitBit Ultra? My iPhone 4s runs down quickly, and I am hoping the FitBit stays charged throughout the day so I don't have to take the FitBit charger to work.

To find surgeons and hospitals that give self pay discounts I spent many hours doing searches on the Internet. Some list the discounts on their web sites and others you have to call. There may be lists available, but I spent time finding a surgeon and hospital I felt provided high quality service at a reduced rate. Good luck in your search!

Desperately Needs Help!
lsmith replied to LauraTarry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Gas X and Pepcid are for two different things. My surgeon explained that the Pepcid helps your stomach to heal and helps prevent ulcers. He prescribed mine twice a day. I have to dissolve it each time in a small amount of water to take, The Gas X does help with the gas pains, but it sounds like you need to get started on the Pepcid. When I was late taking a dose I had pain in the upper part of my stomach and felt sick. -
Things Couldn't Be Better, But Why Can't I Shake The Blues?

Have you discussed being on the Wellbutrin XL with your bariatric surgeon? At times the antidepressant needs changed, especially if it is an extended release medication. -
I had my Sleeve done June 27th. I am from Missouri but went to Dallas Tx since the cash price for my sleeve was $10,995. Normally their price is $12,995 but they are running a $2000 off special. This included the consultation and follow-up with the Surgeon, the operating room fee, anesthesia fee, hospital stay up to two nights, nursing care, standard post op lab work and radiologic studies, medications, hospital dietary consult, Pre op nutrition class, Pre op preparatory class, psych eval if needed, Pre op testing (Labs, EkG, CXR) and post op support groups. Dr Frenzel was my bariatric surgeon and Forest Park was the hospital. I was very pleased with the care and the cost which was much less than available in my home State.

Roll Call Nurses Being Sleeved ...........
lsmith replied to TinkerToyz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Regarding the Hernia repair, I have been very sore since surgery in the epigastric area until today. . . However on the positive note, I have had no pain or tenderness in my Sleeve area! I had my surgery on June 27th and this is the first day where I haven't had any tenderness in the epigastric region. My surgeon has me on Pepcid twice a day. I have to dissolve it each time but it seems to help. -
The name brand Tylenol was recalled. However Tylenol is Acetaminophen. Walgreens, and others, still carry the genetic Acetaminophen. I just checked with the Walgreens I use and they have the liquid and Melt-away strips in their brand. I am not sure if these are in the Children or Adult section, but the Pharmacist would be able to discuss dosages with you.

Roll Call Nurses Being Sleeved ...........
lsmith replied to TinkerToyz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been a RN 28 years and work full time in a management position. I had my Sleeve and Hiatal Hernia repair on June 27th and plan to return to work July 23rd. It has been a full time job for me just getting my liquids and protein in. I had originally planned to return to work sooner but due to a higher risk of leaks the first 4 - 6 weeks I followed my surgeon's recommendation to take off longer than originally planned. It is good I listened as I have been very tired and would not have been able to return to a full day of work yet. -
My surgeon said with my Sleeve I can not take Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen or Aspirin since they increase the risk of a leak or bleed. Have you tried chewable or liquid Tylenol. This is what my surgeon will allow me to take. I don't know if it will help your headache, but I was concerned when you mentioned Advil.

My surgeon told me that duing the first four to six weeks the risk for leaks is greatest. He said after that the risk is very minimal.

June Sleevers! Hows It Going?
lsmith replied to petite-size-me!'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved June 27th. I have lost 35 pounds (10 pounds on the Pre-op diet and 25 more since surgery). I have noticed my taste and smell are different but wondered if it may be because I no longer have the intense cravings. It does seem like a full time job making sure I get enough fluids and protein in. I had one week on clear liquids after surgery, and I am now halfway through two weeks on full liquids. Next will be four weeks on soft foods. It is a slow progression but my surgeon progresses his patients slowly to decrease the risk of a leak. -
Excessive Dry Mouth...w Cpap..
lsmith replied to Patrick Curl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the very same type of problems with my CPAP that Patrick has been experiencing. This was never a problem before surgery so it was an unwelcomed surprise after surgery. I had this problem for three or four nights. I then started putting cooler water in the water reservoir. I also turned the ramping off, added one more pillow to prop my head up more and last I started taking my second Pepcid of the day closer to bedtime in case my repaired Hiatal Hernia was irritated and causing reflux. I don't know if any of these made a difference or if it just improved with time, but I have not had this problem the past two nights. Hopefully your issue will quickly resolve too! -
I had surgery June 27th. I did not know I would have the pain pump or the Luvinox injections but was relieved I was getting these after I read up on them. The indwelling pump I had was the "On-Q" pump. It is small but it decreases the amount of pain near the location with the largest incision. My surgeon explained that the incision on the left is where he removes the stomach through. He said the pump decreases the pain and swelling as well as decreases the need for the other pain meds. You can do a search for "On-Q" pumps and find there is a lot of information on the Internet. There may be other brands but this will give you a better understanding of this device. The injections decrease the risk of blood clots so it is very important to finish all that are ordered. The bariatric coordinator said dehydration and blood clots are two of the biggest reasons for readmission. So by decreasing the pain with the pain pump it is easier to drink your fluids and with the injections the risk of clots is greatly reduced. Good luck with your surgery. I lost te

I had my sleeve done on June 27th. The first day after surgery I felt great, but the second day I was switched to oral pain meds instead of IV meds. That day the pain I had was gas pain, which can be very uncomfortable so be sure you walk, even if you don't want to, and take the Gas X strips. I am taking it easy and although I am a little sore, I don't have any significant pain. Also I don't have any nausea or cravings. It will help if you make a chart to keep up with your liquid intake and medicines the first week. Without a chart I am sure I would not keep up with everything and probably would not feel as good as I do. Good luck!

I had to have an Upper GI. When the results came back it indicated I had a Hiatal Hernia. I was worried my doctor would cancel my surgery, but I learned this is not unusual. My surgeon repaired the hernia while he did my sleeve.

I have my Pre admit appointment today, then meet with Dr Frenzel who is doing my surgery June 27th. I am from Southwest Missouri, but I'm having my surgery at Forest Park hospital in Dallas Texas.
