Start Liquids Tomorrow, Surgery 9/4!
ForMyfamily replied to robynluevano's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing that has helped me is flavored water(crystal lite, mio drops, powerade zero). I have always been a big water drinker. But since starting the preop diet I have found I was still drinking alot of water but needed something more. Just by adding flavor to my water it has helped with some cravings. -
How Much Weight Lost On Pre-Op?
ForMyfamily replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just weighed in this morning and am currently with a 30 lb loss with 2 weeks to go on the liver shrink diet. Everyone is different and will lose at their own rate. Mine is going to be a high loss but my weight is also much higher. -
My Weight Loss Journey - Highest: 699, Current: 591 (Pics)
ForMyfamily replied to Patrick Curl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Keep it going Patrick, I know where you are coming from. Like the others said it took years to put on but look at what you already have done in such short time. As for feeling better, I am starting to feel the same after just 30 lb loss. When I was at my highest of 505 I just felt miserable. But am starting to come around just by losing some of it. This feeling should I hope replace some of our food wants down the road. Great Job! -
Am I Losing Too Fast
ForMyfamily replied to louise1973's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Always check with the Doc but 2-3 lbs per week is acceptable. Also, us bigens tend to drop alot more when weight loss is first started up. You will slow as you get closer to your ideal weight. -
Just take a gander at my bmi. I choose the sleeve because of less issues as a RNY and I was concerned about time spent on a operating table. The sleeve is a very less invasive surgery compared to the RNY.The lap band is not for us morbidly obese just ask a qualified doctor. Even when I brought up these points to my Doc she was in complete agreement. Also, the RNY has better results with sweet eaters than say a volume eater. Best way to find out though is to ask the Doc for options

Goal In One Year! With Video Slide Show Of The Journey!
ForMyfamily replied to Forensikchic's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
WoW Just inspirational. -
Great way to start is water aerobics. I joined a water aerobics senior class to help start going for a routine. With a severed ACL, busted up hips and knees from the Marine Corp and of course way overweight. The senior class was my speed for right now.

I hope it works out for you but do you have any kind of insurance or medicare? Also, asking the doctor is a great idea to inquire about reduced cost or payment plans.

Will tuck this recipe idea away for future use. Thanks.

Share Your Tummy Tuck Journey..
ForMyfamily replied to jaymzee's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I would greatly like to hear from anyone that needed this. I know the extra skin is bad and sucks but to make it to that point is a good thing. It takes alot of weight loss to reach that point and I am hoping to make it there soon. -
Yes, Doc Gave Go Ahead On Salads.
ForMyfamily replied to ForMyfamily's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hi Kathy thanks for the encouragement. -
Well saw the Doc Friday and received the news on my pre op diet. I have to do 3 weeks on the liver shrink diet. Man that will be hard. I did do a liquid only boot camp diet this month just to do a body cleanse. Lost 15 lbs. and feel much better. Anyways I thought the 3 weeks would be liquids only and it was going to be extreme but my Doc came through and said I could have lettuce, radishes, celery and such also. So, viola! A salad and This will be my filler and help out greatly.

Question About Drinking And Eating
ForMyfamily replied to Ang's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First I heard about not drinking before. They actually said to get fluids before so no thirst during meal. I would ask the Doc again to just verify. -
Question About Drinking And Eating
ForMyfamily replied to Ang's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We were told a half hour after eating. What it does is when you drink fluid during eating your pouch will release into your intestines before your stomach has a chance to process the nutrients of the meal. Also, you would be training your new pouch to want more food because it would now be emptied quicker than having a meal digest. -
I love blueberry yogurt but even the Greek ones are high in carbs which is not good. But after searching the Carbmaster series of yogurts, they fit the bill. With only 4g of carbs and low cal at 60 to boot. Yes, I can have my blueberry yogurt again. Protein is about between a regular yogurt and Greek one so a scoop of protein would not hurt.

Yes it is possible or I am making a big mistake. Actually, it may take some time and effort but I am sure you can do it. I have a high goal also but know we can do it.

I feel like the poor little donkey being led by "The carrot on a stick". Every time I get almost there something else gets thrown in. 1) Told I need 3 months weigh in. Did the third month then told need one more as the first one does not count. Huh! So had to wait another month to weigh. Done 2) Meet with advocate to get Nut appointment and then told 2 nutrion classes would be needed. Why wasn't this giving before as I could have hit up the classes while waiting the 3 months. Nope told after and had to add another month waiting for class dates. Done 3) Psych evaluation finished. Got the report back and he said I was aggressive. Must be because I said I will not be paying anymore for a quack. LOL! Done 4) Two year weight history, really! Well luckily I did have this and this brings up a question. Why 3 month weigh-in when I just gave you 2 years worth. Done 5) Doctors letter and recommendation. Done 6) Cardiac clearance letter. Done 7) Pulmonary letter for clearance .Done 8) Upper Gi (yuck) and bloodwork. Done 9) Meet back with advocate and told blood work that was taken 3 months ago showed high thyroid levels and would need to see a Doctor for this to lower. Why wasn't this told to me 3months ago?Back to Doc to have another test done and another charge. Done 10) Back again with advocate to submit to insurance and told they did not like the way the Doctors recommendation letter was wrote. Again why was this not brought up months ago? Back to Doc to have another letter wrote and another charge. Done 11) Submit to insurance and wait 2 weeks and nothing. Call insurance and nothing has been submitted. Call advocate and said he submitted it back then but will submit it again. Call insurance latter that day and the now they have it but said they received backdated papers. Imagine that. Done 12) Received call from Docs to set appointment with the actual doctor to set surgery date this Monday. Yesterday get another call to reschedule Docs appointment for Friday. AAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH! I was originally told I was on the fast track 3 month wait instead of the 6 month one. Not! Oh well it has been interesting so far and have done all that is required so eventually I will get there.

Anybody Else Very Nervous About The Surgery And The Strict Diet Afterwards?
ForMyfamily replied to vssupermodel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes somewhat. But this is just not a surgery by choice but a choice we have come to, making a whole lifestyle change. -
Post Surgery Weight Loss Results
ForMyfamily replied to Celaine47's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very high bmi has shown that in super morbid people will drop weight fast. I went on a liqiud diet (day 4 so far) and am averaging 5 lbs a day. -
Thanks for the heads up. Has very low carb also will have to try. I had already planned peanut butter as part of my post op diet down the road but this should be even better.
-
Yes, scrambled, omelet the are just like regular eggs. They are egg white only but have a coloring to mimic the yellow. Also they now come in southwestern flavor, cheese and chive, and a few others. Some people might not go for them but I love them. Very low carbs, cholesterol, etc.

Insurance Says They Havent Received Anything From Surgeon
ForMyfamily replied to polandspring's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, exact same thing happened to me. Tell your advocate to resubmit and call your insurance morning and afternoon until they get it. Things do get misplaced but in today's world people just aren't doing their jobs. -
On liquid diet and just wanted something with a different flavor other than protein drink. I like lemons so went to check nutrition guide and even lemon or lime juice has carbs. Hard to remember that much of our fruit will be secondary to our protein now.
-
I had forgotten all about the mio drops. Even my nutritionist had brought the up in class. Thanks for the tip.
