Surgery Failed Today!
clancy replied to Sleeve-A-Licious's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
mine was cancelled yesterday. Not a liver issue but complications with the patient before me. It is disappointing though....it takes a lot to get you to this point and while you don't have to start over , it kind of feels that way. Hang in there. -
I have sleep apnea and have been using a CPAP for 13 years. As I was getting ready for my surgery I was told to bring it with me and they would use it if necessary. When I saw the pulmonary doctor for my preliminary testing, she said it could take a year of weight loss before I lost the need for the CPAP,

My bags were packed. I was ready to go. I was at my lowest weight and psyched. Got to the hospital at 9 am this morning and sent to Pre-Op to ready for the 11 am surgery. Stripped down to the hospital gown with an IV in my arm and waiting the green light. At 11:15 am I was notified it was delayed 2 hours due to complications with the patient before me who was in surgery at that moment. At 1:30 pm I was notified it was delayed at least another hour. At 3:00 pm I asked if I stayed could the surgery still be performed and more importantly was the surgeon in any condition to do it ? They passed that question along and to my surprise the surgeon showed up. He asked me to cancel. He said his regular team was going off duty and this was major surgery. For my safety he recommended it be rescheduled. I was bummed but what could I do. I'll get my new date in the morning. UPDATE: 5/26//12: I've been rescheduled for June 6th.

How Long After Your First Visit Did You Get Your Surgery?
clancy replied to letsdothis!!!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I attended the first info meeting in Feb and I have the sleeve surgery on May 23rd -
My surgery is in one week. All appointments are over. I lost weight (15lbs) but put some back on. I know it clears the way for the surgeon but seriously, it's like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic. No special pre-op diet or rules from the hospital. The doctors simply said be careful and don't binge. I read to comments about pain immediately afterwards and head hunger. I expect this. It's probably the head hunger that got me most of the way here to begin with. As with every diet I've been on, changing behaviors and adding exercise is the key to sustained weight loss. Easier said than done and while I'm still a week away from surgery this has got to be the best diet tool ever handed to me. Bring it on !!
