Thank you, Both, so much! I think that IS what I'm trying to do, Wheetsin, make comparisons b/c that's all I know and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this is happening. I'm trying to figure out how to adjust and work the new process with NO knowledge of the new process!!!!

Dreading Pre-Op Diet
MamaM replied to ladyarwenrose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that attitude can help and/or hurt. Having said that, I found out on the 9th that I have to have my band out. Didn't see that coming! AND surgery is on the 4th and I was advised that I should convert to the sleeve, which is what I'm doing. Yikes!! So to say that my attitude sucked at the beginning would be an understatement. I was pissed. After getting my head on straight, I'm in a better place. Anyway, as to your artificial sweetener restrictions. Have you looked in to Hemp or Egg White Proteins? I was told about the Hemp just last night and saw something about the Egg White the other day. I've ordered some egg white to see how it goes. I don't know if those would work for you or not. I don't remember but am pretty sure there are no additives in either of those. I'm on a low cal. (800), high Protein (70+) a day diet right now. I'm down one week and 6lbs. One week to go. I don't have a weight loss amount to shoot for. It's a liver reduction phase. Lots of best wishes to you in your journey! -
Good question! I would like to know about that as well. I would imagine that if you went way too fast and/or swallowed a bite too big that it could happen. It'll be interesting to see what answers you get.

Can Anyone Help Me Out Here, And Tell Me What Can I Drink For A 2 Week Liquid Diet?
MamaM replied to Karen2012's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm on a low calorie (800), high Protein (70+) diet for another week. I've lost 6lbs already. I've been doing a few shakes and eating dinner. Shooting for as low carb/sugar as I can as well. I'm tacking on dailyplanet and that helps me see where I am. There's also a graph that shows you your fat/carb/protein ratios. Mine is to help shrink the liver. Best wishes! -
Hope all went well for you today! Best wishes!!!!

Still In The Hospital Is This Nightmare Ever Going To End?
MamaM replied to 1maryreigel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It very well could be the whey protein. I can't do pure whey isolate. I bought an unjury sample pack and got it in the mail the other day. Tried one of the shakes and I only got a little in before I gave up and dumped it out. Try some other, soy or something, mix with Water or juice, not milk and see what happens. Couldn't hurt to try it. I read somewhere that new sleeves can have issues with milk products for awhile. I'm not sleeved yet by the way. Feel better!!! -

Still In The Hospital Is This Nightmare Ever Going To End?
MamaM replied to 1maryreigel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How are you both doing? Lots of prayers!!! -
I currently have the band. I'm almost 4 years out from that surgery. It's slipped and climbing up to my esophagus and must come out. We are hoping (praying!) that I can be revised at the same time. DR. B typically will NOT revise at the same time as removal but my band isn't in the place it's supposed to be. So unless there is excessive damage or scar tissue, he's going to go ahead w/revision instead of making me wait til August.

When Did You Return To Work?
MamaM replied to sleevemeup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad I found this. I was thinking about it this morning. I was hoping to find a broad idea of how long folks were out from work. My doc has me out for 3 weeks but I kinda need to be back by the 15th. Surgery is the 4th. I ride a desk so I was thinking 10 days off should be enough time. I'm going to have help the whole time so will have plenty of time to rest and sleep and heal. I haven't told work that he has me out that long. I also work part-time but the 1st day (Fri) back at work will be a 9-5, then it's the weekend, then 2 days (Mon & Tues) of 9-5, then Wed. off with the following Thurs & Fri, 10-3 days. I really think I'll be okay to do that. -
June 4Th Is The Big Day !
MamaM replied to DisneyJuju's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm hoping I'm a Sleever on the 4t has well. Clarify, I AM having surgery on the 4th but I'm a removal/revision so it depends on what Dr. finds once he gets in there. Praying hard for it all to happen in one shot. But I also know he will do what's best for ME once he gets in there and can see what's been going on. Best of luck Everyone!!! -
My first time around was a nightmare! Two weeks of liquids with a 2 yr old who was concerned b/c I wasn't eating and kept offering me food. I would sit at the table with DH and DD and be in near tears while they ate and I drank. This time, I'm having a hard time getting enough calories in. I'm hitting the Protein levels easy but low on the calorie side. NEVER thought I'd say that! LOL!! It's only been a couple of days and I've already lost almost 5lbs. (My band is sitting right below my Esophagus so eating is a chore.) I do like this new way of the pre-op diet. Where you can have solids too, as long as it's low cal and lots of protein. I drink shakes all day and then can sit and have some dinner with my family. Even if it's different than what they're having, I can eat with them. It is so hard to restrict our eating habits when we are hungry all the time! I'm a true volume eater and I love food. I love to cook and make up recipes, etc. One good thing, I hate baking! Could you imagine if I liked baking stuff?! Oh Hello!!!!! You are going to struggle during pre-op. I'm not going to say you aren't. BUT you have to remember why you are doing this and putting yourself thru this. By the time it's all over, you will realize what a great job you did keeping to it and it will be so very worth it! Lots of best wishes!!!!

Artsy, I'm not sure. That's why I suggested a call to the doc to find out. I know some pills shouldn't be but those are mostly the time-released ones. But others probably just b/c it would hit the system too fast, maybe? I think if a pill can be cut to reduce a dosage, it should be able to be crushed. Again, have no idea.

A Month And About Two Weeks Out Feeling Strange
MamaM replied to Lilu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call my surgeon tomorrow, if I were you. It could be a complication and you don't want to let it go too far if it is. Not saying it is but you don't want to take any chances. Good luck and feel better! -
June 4th for me. On a low cal/high Protein diet for the next 2 weeks. I'm having removal w/revision.

Welcome and best wishes!!!

I'm pre-op so I can't help you there. But I think you should talk w/your doc. Are they time-release? If not, maybe you can crush them up and dissolve them in some flavored water to get them down. Just a thought. Run it by your doc. Good luck!

Wrapping My Mind Around The Two-Surgery Thing...
MamaM replied to cookies's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon also said he never does removal/revision at the same time. Because of the leak risks due to scar tissue and/or damage from the band. However, he is going to attempt it with me ONLY because my band is completely slipped and has gone UP. The only issue I have is the constant feeling of light pressure on my throat and food siting there as it works it's way thru the stoma. I have NO other issues. No sticking, no reflux, nothing. We wouldn't even know there was an issue except for the pressure that I feel. He is confident that he will be able to do the revision at the same time b/c of that. We talked at length on the phone and again yesterday to make sure I understand everything. I have complete confidence that he will do what is best for me. Having said that- I am REALLY hoping we can do this in one shot! I do not want to have to have another surgery in August. BUT I know that if that is how it needs to happen, then I will be fine. -
After nearly 4 years of having my band, I was told by my surgeon that we need to take it out. I was told this just a week and a half ago, on the 9th. My removal, with possible sleeve revision will take place on the 4th. I spent the entire day yesterday at Kaiser. Blood work the day before, EKG, chest x-ray, meet w/my surgeon, 3 hour orientation class, etc. Today was admitted via hone and paid my co-pay for surgery. I only have the phone call with the pre-op medical history doc on Tuesday AM. I start my 2 week, 800cal/day, Protein only diet on Monday. I'm hardly eating at this point so not too worried about it. Only issue is right now it's junk that I'm eating, b/c it goes down and doesn't take it's time sitting in my throat. When I first posted in the introduction section, I was pretty angry. I went in to the band with high hopes, have worked to make it work for me and I expected it to be the tool that I needed to get the weight off and keep it off. I feel as if I've been sold a bill of goods. Still. But am sort of in a better place. I'm not keeping this surgery as much of a secret as I did with the band. Not that I'm telling everyone but I'm not NOT telling either. I've been pretty teary-eyed today. I think it's sinking in, maybe I'm even grieving for what I had hoped to be able to do with the band. I am honestly scared this time. Worried if I'll be okay. Heal well, etc. Anyway. Getting it done and I'll see what happens!

Just signed up tonight. I am having my band removed and then revising to the sleeve. All my surgeon's idea. I was shocked that he even suggested it. No scheduling of things as of yet. Looking at removal in June? with revision in August. Now I need to research and wrap my brain around what is happening. So. Here I am.
