    Need A New Forum

I guess I would fall in to this category. I don't believe in eating all protein all the time. Now that I'm about 8 weeks out and off the graduated post-op eating plan, I have no restrictions on things. I am slowly trying the foods that I love and going back to my "normal" way of doing things. Meaning, I tend towards more of a veg diet. I love my veggies (which also have protein BTW) and don't normally eat a lot of meat. I don't believe in low-carb but I do watch some of the sugars in things. I tend to not eat a lot of bread but when I do it's usually a whole grain or a cracker-type of some sort. Lots of veggies. Fruit. Whole grains. Lean meats. And cheese and eggs when I want 'em.
  2. I weigh everyday, for the most part. I only count the loss, if there is one, if I hang on to that for a few days. It's a habit I got into w/my band. Doc wanted me on the scale everyday when I was having problems to be sure I was paying attention to what I was eating. I'm not obsessive about it. If I miss a day, oh well.

    "just Eat Already!"

    Oh no!!! Lots of prayers!!
  5. Congratulations! As for being too young, I think it's an individual thing. As long as you went in to this with eyes wide open and know what you need to do while healing and follow your doc's guidelines, I don't see why not! Best wishes to you on this new journey!!!!

Ok, A Gross Question About Drain

Nope. My doc did say that if needed I would have one. I never thought to ask what his criteria were for deciding if it was needed or not. I didn't have one. I did have a cath b/c My surgery was so long. Got it removed the next morning. I actually was glad for it when looking back. I was in no shape to try to get to the bathroom that first night.

    I Just Wanna Cry

I am sorry you are having to deal with all of this. Is this a result of the sugery or something totally separate? I don't know anything about peripheal neuropathy.
  8. I would definitely tell your 14 yr old but I don't have much experience w/Autistic children. I do know that they are all different, well really every kid is. You are the only one to know if your 12 yr old can handle or even needs to know what is going on. My 6yr old knows. She was 2 when I had my band surgery and she's been with me to the doc and thru all the stuff that I've gone thru w/that. She smart and observant. We also spend a lot of time together so there is no hiding things w/her. She also does MUCH better when we tell her what is going on. She gets anxious if she knows something is up and yet can't figure out what is happening. AND I was spending a night in the hospital! No way to hide that from her!!!! My husband took me to the hospital, stayed until I was in my room and awake, then went home to our daughter. The next morning he went w/her on her field trip, left her w/our sitter, then came down to get me when I was discharged. She's my little nurse and helper. She's been awesome!

    Back To Work?

Today was my first day back. I am 4 weeks out. I had visions of going back after a week. Doc had me off for 3 initially. I was in NO shape to go back on the 25th! He kept me out another week and I'm doing soooo much better! I work part-time and ride a desk BUT it's a very busy (and can be stressful) office. Up and down a lot. I don't get a chance to drink or eat like I should. Today went well but by the time 2 o'clock came, I sure was ready to go home! I'm swollen and exhausted but also glad to get back in the swing of things and get back to a schedule. (Tho I miss being home too!)
  14. I was 186 day of surgery and 177 as of this AM, 4 weeks out. I've always been a slow loser and so I'm not too surprised tho part of me would like to see bigger -#s. I don't know where I'll end up tho. Just want to lose. I figured I was stuck w/my ill-working, full of issues band so to be able to revise was a [pleasant] surprise for me. I'll take a pound a week if that's all I get.

    Uncooperative Pcp?

My former PCP was always reluctant about WLS but he'd been w/me thru years of up and down scale numbers, trying different diets, health issues, etc. When I finally approached him about it, he was happy to give me the referral to the bariatric program. About the time I was finishing up, I needed to get an okay from my PCP saying I was in good enough shape for surgery and he had just moved on to another department! My 1st appt w/my new PCP was to get the surgery okay!!! I was freaking out! I had NO clue as to who this guy was and here I'd gone thru the whole program and was only waiting for this step so I could get my date and then pre-op testing done! Well, he was happy to do that for me! He'd had WLS patients in his private practice before coming to Kaiser and he'd seen good things happen. Fast forward and I have yet another PCP and this guy is typical anti-WLS, you can do this by cutting calories and exercising, blah, blah, blah. He's good but he makes me nuts too! LOL!! Didn't help that by this time I was having weight gain issues, due to problems w/my band. I did NOT have to go thru him to get my Sleeve. Good thing b/c I don't think he would have signed off on it. My surgeon told me my band had to come out and he was offering me the Sleeve as an alternative. I don't even think my PCP knows about my surgery. I would try your PCP first. Don't be nervous, they work for you. But have a plan of action to put in to play IF he gives you grief about it. Best wishes!

    Tired Of Cold Food!

You could get one of those electric mug warmers. Set it where you eat and just keep you plate or bowl on it. Things will stay constantly warm w/out getting too hot. Only downside is you have to have a plug nearby or a long extension cord! Or you could get an insulated Soup mug. You know the ones that look like a short, wide thermos w/a lid? I only plate or dish up what I'm going to eat right then. If I go back for more later, I'm reheating it anyway. The only thing I'm constantly reheating is my tea or soup. I like those really hot. Everything else ends up room temp. I'm used to it tho b/c of my 4 yrs w/the band. Takes so long to eat, nothing is going to stay warm w/out help. Good luck!

    Stand Still & No Loss

Yes. I was banded in August of '08 and had removal/revision on June 4th.
  19. I had high Protein softs only: yogurt sf pudding cottage cheese Peanut Butter cheeses eggs, scrambled, boiled, poached milk/soy milk dry couscous (that one got me confused!) Then this past week I was able to add: fish seafood nuts Beans This week add: chicken turkey Next week add: beef pork Hope that helps.
  20. JLOR, you sound a lot like me. Graduated about 120, started gaining right away. All the way up to about 260lbs over the next 20 yrs! Could be more but that's the number I have from a doc's visit at the time. Also have a younger sis who struggled w/her weight all her life. Difference, she had bypass about 15 yrs ago and has done an awesome job w/it! I had the band installed about 4 yrs ago. First year went well and got down to about 178 or so. Then the next 3 years had problems and gained all of it back up to surgery day weight, which was 210. May 9th, doc told me my band had to come out and he offered me the Sleeve as an alternative. June 4th, I had my removal/revision surgery. I had managed to get about 16lbs off and was 194 when doc told me I had to have surgery again. Day of, I was 186. As of this AM, I'm 177!!! WhooHoo!!! I put 140 down as a goal, but truly I don't really have one. I had resigned myself to struggling w/my band and just trying to keep from GAINING! I was going to try to just stay in the 190's and find a way to be okay w/that. Now, I'm just going to keep going down until I stop. You need to get your own head in this. Don't worry about trying to get anyone else on board. If this is what you feel you need to do, esp. after 20 years of dieting w/out being able to keep it off. Then that is what you need to do. It's not up to any one else. Best wishes w/your journey, whatever you decide.

    Stand Still & No Loss

I was sleeved on the 4th and am down 9lbs now! Very happy! I came home w/an extra 5, got that off, then lost 6, then GAINED 3 , got that back off and have since lost another 3lbs. Surgery day I was 186 and this AM I'm down to 177. WhooHoo!!!!!
  22. Thanks for all the info! I have plans to take a cooler bag w/me w/containers in it and ice pack so that when we go out, I can put stuff in my containers to come home. A lot of places where I live use the styrofoam stuff and we have a hard time getting rid of it. AND if I'm putting stuff away when my plate comes, the food is still really hot and it melts the styrofoam. That can't be good!!!
