I am waiting for insurance approval and can possibly have a surgery date in 2-4 weeks. I have been following a 1200 calorie low fat diet for over a month already but now have to do a 1000 calorie, fat free diet, pre op (liver shrinking). It may sound irrational but I am scared to death that my liver won't shrink despite my efforts! At my pre op class we were shown the pictures of a nice liver and a big ole fatty liver (fatty liver was sewn up with no surgery). I asked if people can have a fat liver even while following the diet and the nurse said it was rare but could happen. I should add that I am "that" patient that has quite a few rare and odd things. Am I the only worry wart here that thinks about this? Have you heard of this happening before?

carolc replied to carolc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Has anyone else had to do a pre op 5 day ketosis diet? It was not fun but I made it to day 5...and lost 10lbs! I was allowed 9 oz of lean protein, 3 cups broth, 6 oz jello, 64 oz of water divided into 3 meals. On day six I go for urine test to confirm ketosis. This shows that you were able to follow rules and that you are serious about surgery. Now...to keep this 10 lb off and lose more by July!

Telling Your Child You're Having Wls
carolc replied to Half~of~Bri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my 18 and 16 yo daughters exactly what I was doing. They have seen me struggle with weight issues for so long and they understand why I chose to do this. I told my 12 yo daughter just recently because she was getting nervous about all of my dr appts. She asks a lot of questions and I do try to answer them as honestly as I can without giving her anything to worry about. I am not sure how I would explain to a younger child. -
I am new...hopefully someone that knows will help you

Hi there! Are either of you going to St. Raphael? I am fortunate to be going through this with my best friend (she opted for lap band) but I know there is no such thing as too much support. I look forward to seeing you on this forum and thanks for reaching out

I Let Someone Take A Photo, And I Didn't Cringe
carolc replied to Amanda 3.0's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I haven't had the surgery yet but the picture thing is a huge motivator for me. I have avoided the camera for 8 years now and it makes me so sad that I have no pictures with my kids Congrats to you! -
Who To Tell And Not Tell....
carolc replied to kmoore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it isn't a matter of embarrassment. Heck, the fact that i am overweight is embarrassing! I need to focus on me for once and not waste a second explaining myself to people who may not be supportive. I get my feelings hurt easily and I know this so It's a matter protecting myself. I may change my mind later on, who knows? -
My surgeon told me to take flinstone complete! Chewables

Who To Tell And Not Tell....
carolc replied to kmoore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I decided against telling anyone with the exception of my husband, kids and best friend I asked my surgeon his advice and he said to do whatever will gove me the best success. He also said to tell people i had my galbladder out to explain my hospital stay! I may change my feelings afterward but for now, i don't need everyone's comments and opinions.
