Any Advice On How To Quit Smoking?
kmoore replied to mommybo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit 2 1/2 years ago. Used Chantix for 3 months and used an electronic cigarette with a zero nicotine cartridge for about 1 month after that. The key is to have your mind into it. Don't rely on lollipops...that is too much sugar. Anytime I got the urge, I would stop and do about 10-15 situps. Good exercise and the urge usually passes by the time you are through. Also, brushing your teeth or drinking a full glass of water when an urge strikes is helpful. The Chantix gave me VERY vivid dreams...but most were actually quite nice lol Good luck. It's not easy, but it'll be one of the best things you'll ever do for yourself -
Anyone going to support group tonight? I'm going. Would be great to meet some of you

I was having the WORST day at work today, then right in the middle of it, I receive a phone call from my bariatric doc's office. It's the lady who checks off all of the insurance requirements wondering why I missed my appointment on July 31st for my H.Pylori test, Upper GI and chest xray. I tell her, "I didn't. I was there and I had those tests done". Except for the chest xray which I had the tech at my office shoot me and I faxed the results over to them on July 20th. Well, it shows that I cancelled that appt, so I must not have been there and they have no results. WHY OH WHY do people argue? I tell her again, YES I WAS THERE ON JULY 31st and I DID HAVE MY TESTING DONE! I told her I had blood drawn and then went to imaging for the upper GI. She inquires why I had blood drawn! DOH! To check for H.Pylori!!!!! Then she SEES the results for this test...why didn't you have the breath test for that? WELL, because I get there and find out that you all were out of the little balloons to do the test that way. BUT, she still can't find my upper GI results and insists I never sent the xray results to them. So I RE-fax that and ask that they call imaging to get the upper GI results. Then....BAM! Oh, and I don't see a pre-op release note from your cardiologist and we must have that. OMG! September 2010, my PCP sends me to cardio for a stress test due to my high blood pressure, high cholesterol and the fact that my dad dropped dead of a massive heart attack 4 months before that at the age of 63! I have the stress test done and they note a "shadow" that they feel is due to my large breasts, but I insisted on a heart catheterization to be 100% sure....and all was clean And I have not seen the cardio since, and he did not expect to see me again either. My PCP manages my co-morbidities. Well, you saw a specialist and because of that, he has to sign off too. So I call cardio...yes, he can write the letter....at the appointment I now have to go to to see him. I figured that. I mean, he hasn't seen me in 2 years! So, I have an appt with him next Thursday (8/16). I am not miffed that I have to have this appointment or that I have to have this letter...I understand why. But OMG...WHY they didn't tell me this 4 months ago....OR when I went over the insurance checklist ONE month ago WITH this exact person that was calling me???? I could already have this done! I thought they sent this to my insurance on Monday...now I find out I will be waiting at LEAST another week to go to insurance. UGH...the competency of some people baffles me sometimes. I know my snag is nothing compared to those of you that FOUGHT insurance to pay, and those that came up with big money because your insurance wouldn't pay...but geez! I am a VERY organized person, and for them to throw this on me last minute ticks me off. AND it was the straw that broke that back today...I thought I was gonna go postal at work with all going wrong there and then this news....LOL! Thanks for listening to my rant Jumping off of my soap box now

Looking forward to a better day today Insurance and bariatric doc, for me, do not require a pulmonologist...thank goodness. I was afraid of having to wait a month for the cardiologist...but he had a cancellation for next week (YAY). I didn't think about needing clearance from him, because the doc told me all he needed was the results of the stress test and heart catheterization procedure. I would have been disappointed regardless, but the fact I was having such a terrible day at work too...UGH. I am rested this morning though, and am hoping for a better day

LOL! I have actually weighed myself pre and post defecation before. You would be shocked at the weight difference....LOL

I think I saw you in the waiting room at one of my appointments Our dates will probably be close together
-
Upper GI and H.Pylori good and negative. Waiting on insurance now. Won't be an August 15th date for me...but I didn't think so anyway. Hopeful for mid-September
-
YAY! Wouldn't that be cool if I got so lucky as an Aug 15th date?! We could walk the halls together at Presby Somehow, I have the feeling it'll be a Sept date for me though.

I am coming down the line and will probably have a surgery date for the beginning of September sometime and am wanting to start preparing my pantry and so forth a little at a time. That being said, I see alot of recipes for mushies/soft and solids, but little in reference to the "liquid stage". From those of you that have already gone through this, can you post some of your favorite liquid stage recipes. This also would help with that pesky 2 week liquid pre-op too Thanks

Hoping your surgery went smoothly and you are hopefully resting comfortably in your room now

Birth Control Pills And Surgery?
kmoore replied to Bufflehead's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just an FYI about the pill...it takes most ladies 4-6 months on the pill until you menses will regulate. At the practice I work at, I've heard some girls complain that after 4 months on, they are still bleeding, and some are even heavier than before the pill. I've heard some say they had a 2 week period at a time for a few months before they stopped having periods too. Everyone is different, but be prepared that going on the pill for the convenience of not bleeding during your surgery time might not work the way you are hoping it will -
Body Piercing-Surgery Question
kmoore replied to amykins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They will make you remove the plastic spacers too. I had surgery on my elbow several years ago and had a 1 month old nostril piercing. I didn't want it to close up, so I bought one of the plastic ones and had that in the morning of the surgery. They made me take it out, and 6 hours later, I could not get it back in. Had to get the piercing redone Just be prepared for that possibility. -
Surgery Tomorrow.... Pre-Op Torture
kmoore replied to Sherry77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats and good luck to you all today -
I live in Rock Hill, SC and work in Charlotte. Having my surgery done by Dr. Voellinger @ Presbyterian Main. Going for H.Pylori and barium swallow (upper GI) tomorrow. That will be the final step, then insurance. Should be ok for surgery date either mid-August or mid-September. I work for Presbyterian/Novant and we are the hospital for the Democratic National Convention, so cannot take off of work the 1st week in September due to that. So if I can't have a surgery date for the 2nd week of August, I will have to wait until the 2nd week in September. Very cool to have so many around me with close surgery dates

Dark urine is a sign of dehydration. Needs more fluids for sure.

AWESOME! GREAT NSV! I had 2 tubs of clothing from skinnier days tucked away in the attic...to my dismay, the lids to the tubs came loose evidently from getting too hot and too cold up in the attic and mice found their way to them. Result...very holely clothing Did a complete attic clean and set some traps, but that won't bring my clothes back

Has anyone tried that cheeseburger puree? Puree'ing bread just seems icky
