body composition lessons learned: why BMI is not the best measure of obesity or progress
kmoore replied to COsleeveDude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI goal should be 126-138lbs for "normal". That is WAY to skinny for me. I look and feel great at about 145-150lbs Would be interesting to see if these scans would give me those results too. -
OMG! I HAVE SO SCREWED UP!
kmoore replied to Jessica9190's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your boss overstepped, yes, but did not, and cannot violate any HIPPA laws. The medical profession are the one's held to HIPPA, not some Joe Blow off the street. Him telling someone else would just be him violating a trust between you and him, not violating any laws. That being said, your reaction sounds like something I would have done too. Don't beat yourself up. I think if I were in the same shoes, I would probably come clean about my lie. I have only encountered 2 people that were somewhat negative about my surgery, and was pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of support from so many others. Even if you catch flack from any of your coworkers, you can hold your skinny head high knowing you are happier and healthier -
Good luck! Prayers with you for quick healing

Cigna is the pits! Expect to wait 31 days for the answer. I started calling them daily at about 16 days...still didn't get the approval until day 31.

How Did You Set Your Goal Weight?
kmoore replied to Raven21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5'3" and chose my 1st goal by BMI. That would be 135lbs. That puts me a couple of points into the "healthy" BMI range. However, at one time, I did manage to maintain a weight of 150lbs and felt and looked great there too. So I would be thrilled to hit that too -
Syntrax Nectar Question!
kmoore replied to MsShaunaMarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't care for the Lemon Tea or the apple one. The rest were pretty good though. I mixed most of them with skim milk (8-10 ozs). As someone else said, Nectars tend to be thinner than most protein shakes anyway, so 16ozs, to me, would be too much. LOVED Strawberry Kiwi, Cappuccino, Mountain Sky, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate, and Vanilla. -
Worried About The Leak Test
kmoore replied to ChrisJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does your doctor do the swallow test or does he/she test before closing you up during surgery. I was fortunate and my doc does his leak test before ever closing you up. No swallow test the next day! -
Glad they are getting better. Normal is 60-99. 152 is pretty high for a fasting sugar. Try the pre-op diet as suggested and your sugars will come down pretty fast. 120 is not bad, considering how out of control your sugars obviously are with an A1C of > 11. Sounds like you are on the right track. You can do it

I don't have children, but was on a 20lb lifting restriction for the 1st 2 weeks. After that, I was released without restriction.

Some Reassurance Please!
kmoore replied to mendymayhem's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If I am not mistaking, I think a SF pudding is only about 1-2 grams of protein and not a dense protein. You can eat more of it and not be full. Try Refried pinto or black beans with melted cheese...can top with a mild, and not chunky salsa. Very flavorful and is a denser protein that will fill you longer. I do have to eat a small something about every 4 hours or my tummy growls I am having finely shredded chicken salad (2 ozs) for lunch today...was full before the full 2 ozs was finished BTW...I am on purées too -

LOL! Streetlights! I will have to check out the genie bra. Never heard of them, but I am sure I will need something for when I start dropping sizes myself. YEARS ago I was a 38C...now up to 44DD. I would LOVE to get back to a more reasonable size.

kmoore replied to WingsOfAButterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This soon post op, I would think you would go with you bariatric MD and not PCP??? edited to say...I should have read further down. I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I hope your hospital trip will be a productive and healing one. Saying prayers. -
I do understand. I plan to go to the next one at the Cornwell Center. Matthews is quite a haul for me Do call that number that goes with that support group to make sure they are meeting. I went to one at Presby Main without calling first and it had been cancelled

Something I read in my surgeons Journey to Wellness packet was when on mushies and purees, that I am to still be getting my main protein from shakes, since getting all of the protein you need from just a couple of bites of the mushie or puree won't work. Might be something you want to ask your MD?
