Calicolea replied to Anewlifeforme23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the refried beans cup at Taco Bell. Think that would be good on mushies? I'll be starting those in a few days. Or maybe it's too high in fat? -
My husband brought home pizza last night. It smelled good, but really can't say I wanted any..... I was shocked!!! Hang in there...... you can do this

How Long Till You Were Able To Sleep In A Bed..
Calicolea replied to Shilo30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had surgery a little over two weeks ago and I'm still in a recliner. Not because my side hurts, but due to reflux. I had to have a hiatal hernia repaired twice (long before I got my sleeve) and my doctor says that is causing the reflux, but it should resolve within a couple months. The doctor started me on prilosec twice a day, maalox three times a day, and I have to stop drinking or eating anything at 7:30 pm. He also said I have to sleep at a 45 degree incline and the easiest way for me to get that is in the recliner..... so here I am...... still in the recliner! -
Things I Won't/don't Miss About The Band...
Calicolea replied to hrtgoeson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi B&R's Mom I had my revision on 5/4/12 and so far it's going as expected. I got so frustrated with my band too. I had it for 9 years, but the last three were horrible and I basically had to live with it unfilled because of problems. I ended up gaining about 3/4 of the weight I had lost. The band doctor I was using basically told me the band wasn't going to work for me anymore because he couldn't fill it without causing reflux. By that time I had started researching alternatives (because I hated the thought of gaining all my weight back) and read a lot about the sleeve. I asked the doctor if he thought that was a good alternative, and he did, even though he didn't do the sleeve himself, so he referred me to someone else. I ended up not going thru that doctor and became a self pay. Obviously all of us have to decide what is best for ourselves, but for me the sleeve seemed to be the right choice. At first, I would say what you did, to my husband.... "but it's permanent" and he gave me the most eye opening answer...... he said, yes it is and that means no more fills, no more over fills, no more restrictions on the types of foods you can eat (I couldn't eat vegetables, salad, fruit, bread, pasta, rice, etc etc), no more chest pain, and you can keep the weight off. I decided that's what I wanted. Don't get me wrong, I was scared and worried, but I'm so glad I've had the revision. I've already lost 24 lbs and on my way to recovery. My doctor in Cancun told me he cringes now when people ask for the band because research is shoiwing the band becomes ineffective after several years and people start having problems. I guess I'm a poster child for that. LOL If you have any questions just let me know. I haven't been sleeved all that long, but glad to share what I have experienced so far. -

I think most of us have gone thru this in one way or another. I know I have. I had my surgery in Cancun and we went early to spend a few days enjoying the beach. I was on Clear liquids at the time, and I know, at the beginning, I had a couple pity parties when my husband would be having his meals. I finally realized I had to just suck it up and enjoy the experience and not worry about the food. I eventually would even go to the restaurants with him and sip Water and lemon and just enjoy where I was and who I was with. I guess my advice would be to focus on your family's get together and not the food being served. (I know easier said than done) But we need to learn to replace food with something else. I hope you are feeling better and your days get easier

Sleeved Yesterday
Calicolea replied to shelleyrn22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to hear your surgery went well and you are on the road to recovery. Yes, it does get better. It's been two weeks since my surgery and I can see progress everyday and I'm sure you will too. -
Then that's exactly what you should do..... never have the surgery unless you are comfortable having it.

I can understand your concerns. I had a similar experience when I had my gallbladder out years ago. It wasn't AFIB, but tachycardia. When I was put under my heart started beating way too fast and they couldn't get it slowed so they brought me out off the anethesia and put me CCU for a couple days. Nothing else happened and I had my gallbladder removed two weeks later. I was so scared. Since then I've had other surgeries and never had a problem since.... so not sure what happened that day. My advice would be to get all the information you can from your doctors and have them explain why they think this happened and why the surgery is ok....... from that you can make a decision that is best for you. My best to you.... hope it all works out! Big hugs!!!!!
