Still Suffering..and A Little Scared?!?! *bowel Issues*

I was re-admitted to the hospital for dehydration and constipation. They gave me IV fluids and magnesium citrate. It took me about 2.5 hours to drink the magnesium citrate, but it worked. -
I started eating Jerky at 4 weeks post-op. I cut it up small with scissors and chew real well.

Best Jerky I ever had, and I have had it all. http://damngoodjerky.com

I am 4 weeks out and feel similar. I have no desire to eat at all. When I force myself to eat, it is only a few bites and thats it. I am trying to stick to calorie dense proteins(chicken, jerky cut up small) to get in as many calories as I can. I also drink the low cal G2 gatoraide to get some carbs for energy.

Sleeved On 5/17...what Else Can I Eat Sooo Sick Of The Protein Shakes!
May 3 2012 sleeve replied to itsmeloca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on May 3rd. Have been living on chicken nuggets and fish sticks(only 1 or 2 at a time) since week 3. Doctor said if I can stomach it then it was fine. He said the carbs from the breading would help give me some energy. I have always been a die hard no carb person, but I have found I really need some after surgery. I have tried some jerky too, cut it up small and chew well. I can't stomach the shakes after surgery for some reason. I tried a few different kinds. -
I am almost 4 weeks out and felt the same way you did. Make sure you get your fluids in. I didn't and was readmitted to the hospital for dehydration week 2. I still have no desire to eat anything, but I make sure I do, otherwise I feel terrible and have no energy. I had bad dreams the first couple of weeks too and woke up feeling sick, like I actually ate the food I was dreaming about. I found tylenol PM helps me sleep like a baby. I have found some things don't agree with my sleeve(protein shakes), but that is something you will have to experiment with. What I miss the most is being able to drink a whole glass of water to satisfy my thirst. The sipping thing was tough to get used to. Now I can take in more than a sip which is nice. The way I feel is getting better as time goes by.

Still In The Hospital Is This Nightmare Ever Going To End?
May 3 2012 sleeve replied to 1maryreigel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too was sleeved on 3-may-12. The first week I felt great and I thought this couldn't be easier. Then 10 days post things starting going down hill. I was readmitted to the hospital on 16-may with severe dehydration and constipation. They put me on IV fluids and had me drink magneseum citrate to get my bowels moving. I was discharged on 18-may. That night I was discharged was tough. Things have been getting a little better day by day. I am still trying to figure out what I can eat/drink without causing my stomach and lower back to start having pains. I don't know if it is the whey protein or the vitamins, but something doesn't agree with me after I take it. Trial and error will hopefully tell. I never thought it would be so difficult to drink enough fluids. I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow. When did most of you start feeling normal again? -
Why Is The Pain Getting Worse?
May 3 2012 sleeve replied to Condessa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I had to be readmitted to the hospital last week on Wednesday. Was dehydrated and constipated. Wife said I looked like hell. A couple of days of IV fluids helped and was discharged on Friday. Friday night was hell. I don't think I really understood the need to drink slowly throughout the day and try to get your protein in. I feel a little better today, but definitely not normal. Thought or smell of food makes me nausaus, but hopefully that will pass. I'm not sleeping well either. Drinking about 4 oz of water an hour with 3 very small meals. Crossing my fingers it gets better over time. 24may12 will be 3 weeks post op. -

Condessa, How are you doing? I am going through the same situation now. It started on Sunday and I am worndering if it will ever end. My leftover Lortab has helped, but I don't want to be taking them all the time. I was doing great up until Sunday, I don't know if I over did it or if something is actually wrong. I talked to the nurse on Monday and she said it was normal. I did vomit a few times, which probably didn't help much. I will be 2 weeks post-op this Thursday. -
Sleeved May 3, 2012 :)

I too had my procedure on May 3. This was my first major surgery so I was a little nervous. Arrived at hospital at 7:30 am, went into surgery around 10 am, woke up in post op recovery around 1 pm(I think). That was the easy part. The hospital took good care of me with pain meds, so I didn't have to much discomfort. I tried some broth on Friday and didn't sit very well, made me feel nauseous. I was discharged Friday night around 8 pm, could have been sooner, but doctor was busy. The gas was an issue Saturday and Sunday, but the more I moved around the better it got. I'm on clear liquid for 7 days and I am ok with that as of now. Still not getting enough in. I am not used to the sipping thing. I went back to work this morning, (Monday) as the pain is bearable and I have a desk job. I stopped the pain meds on Sunday. All in all it is getting better day by day. Day of surgery 256 lbs, today 252 lbs.
