5 Days Out, Terrible Insonmnia
Thinner Peace replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was terrible between weeks 3-4. It has gotten better! -
Fitforlife, you are correct that the brain thinks fake sugar is the same as real sugar. In fact, the consumption of sugar in the US has exploded after artificial sweeteners were introduced. After giving up sugar and caffeine, my next goal is to cut back on artificial sweeteners. I think my body will adjust and will no longer crave it. Things, such as strawberries, willprobably taste like dessert.

I am 5 weeks out and discouraged that I can consume so much in one sitting. In an hour and a half car drive I drank a 9 ounces protein drink followed by a yoplait light yogurt. 30 minutes later I had what felt like constipation (sweating, nausea). I slept for 2 hours and woke up with a headache, dizziness and nausea. Maybe Im dyhydrated.

Folks Who Have Had Complications
Thinner Peace replied to Pegsinthewoods's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would use the insurance. The 6 months of weigh ins are a great tool to get yourself ready for the change of eating habits. I have heard that many people who do not do the entire program are not as successful. -

June 2012 Sleevers Post Op Check In
Thinner Peace replied to robin33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For all of you that have lost 1 or more pounds a day and are disappointed that you have not lost more weight...ask yourself when the last time was that you ever lost so quickly! I am 4 weeks out and have only lost 10 pounds. However, that is 2 pounds a week, a healthy expectation. Hopefully I will not have any stalls since I have been slow and steady. But seriously, you are making ME concerned with my slow weight loss and I am still on liquids! -
How Did I Get To This Point?
Thinner Peace replied to Louisiana Girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I totally understand all of you like soul sisters! I am 5'2 and was 183 when I was sleeved a month ago. I also am tired of the yoyo dieting. The only fear I currenty have is that I have never felt any restriction and I am scared of gaining the weight back. My brother did not support the surgery at all and put my mom into a panic that I was doing the wrong thing. However, now that I survived the surgery she is happy and supportive of me. I have only lost 11 pounds but as long as it continues I am thrilled with my decision. I carry most of my weight in my stomach, boobs and arms (apple shaped). I hope I do not have to have plastics. I will send pics privately but do not want to post them publicly. I lost 50 pounds prior to surgery so the before and after is quite evident. Whats funny though is still people have not noticed Ive lost weight. Maybe because I am still int he "obese" range (I will be "overweight" after losing another 6 pounds)! -
Have you been in therapy or met with a psych since 6 years ago? One thing that was made clear was that we had to have any depression under control before going through surgery because many go thru depression after surgery that didnt have it prior. Also, if you are on any meds you will want to see if you can get them in liquid form. If you have not met with your psych for 6 years you may want to get a 2nd opinion regarding your diagnosis and medication. Some of your symptoms definately sound like anxiety, depression, poor self esteem, but bipolar can often be misdiagnosed as borderline or some other form of depression. I would recommend getting into some type of support group or counseling because this surgery can bring up a lot of issues that we have stuffed away with food and we need to made sure we have alternate coping skills in place. Good luck to you!

Hungry All Day - Eating A Lot - Need Help!
Thinner Peace replied to missmachine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you feel hungry make sure you are drinking your water. Do you have real hunger or head hunger? What are your emotional triggers (i.e. stress, defeat, depression, loneliness?). Go to an over eaters anonymous meeting to help you if you are having head hunger. Have you signed up with myfitnesspal? You can check out what other wls friends on your page are eating on a day by day basis. Cheese has 100 calories an ounce so you may want to be cautious of how certain foods pack on the calories quickly. Good luck, you can do this! -

What Does Full Feel Like?
Thinner Peace replied to Slenderella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not puked yet. In fact, I have to measure my food because I do not feel full after 4 ounces. However, I think I am full when I burp. When I am hungry an hour later I added in one more protein shake a day (3 a day) and that has kept me feeling satisfied. -
I woke up yesterday with what felt like I strained my lower abdominal muscles. I also had a short bout of left shoulder pain and the pain from my stomach moved to the right side of my lower back. I dont recall lifting anything, only walking 4 miles yesterday. I normally would ignore this but only being 3 weeks out of surgery I wantt o make sure I am not overlooking something that could be more serious.

I Just Had Surgery 6.12.2012 But I Haven't Lost Any Weight?!?
Thinner Peace replied to sarabee323's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Did you ask your doc what size your bougie is? Because of all the IV fluid you can expect to gain water weight. In 11 days you lost the water weight, now you will start losing. As far as starving yourself, I was on a 2 week liquid diet (isnt that starving myself, too)? I really dont understand what the doc was making such a big deal over that was about. Focus on drinking water, getting your protein in and walking. I have only lost 10 pounds in three weeks post op. It is frustrating but I am at least losing and not gaining! -

Does The Gastric Sleeve Surgery Help Reduce Depression? Did You Reduce Or Get Off Of Meds?
Thinner Peace replied to ladylovely's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Now that I have been sleeved I am in counseling to deal with the root of my weight problem so that I can develop coping skills other than eating. This is a journey and will not end for me by losing the weight. -

Restriction And The Pyloric Valve
Thinner Peace posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have yet to feel any restriction. My surgeon was surprised because he was worried he made my sleeve too small. He said I would feel the restriction once I moved on to dense food. Well yesterday I had 2 ounces of chicken and cucumber and tomato salad. Nothing. COuld my pyloric valve not be working, i.e. it is too loose? The other concern is that I have been getting light headed, mostly when I stand up. Everything turns black, my head is fuzzy and warm and today my hands were tingling. Should I be concerned? My surgeon said being light headed is normal but I do not want to faint. -

Ideas: Pea Protein Or Soy Protein
Thinner Peace replied to Aliceinwonder's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Arbonne has a fantastic pea protein powder in chocolate. -
I went to Smart and FInal and they have all kinds of Torani syrups to choose from (and cheap)! I got the raspberry to put in my nonfat Fage yogurt or in my peach icetea. Is the SF chocolate any good? What about the peanut butter? WHat else are people doing besides using it in protein shakes and yoguet? ANy good recipes?
