Well, I had a pre op diet that I stuck to 8 out of the 14 days. I wasn't horrible when I cheated just not what the doc ordered. I even went to Chili's the day before my surgery. I had no problems with my surgery on the first, but feel like I have had so much gas (belching) maybe because of my pre surgery diet. The doc never said anything so I'm guessing since I lost weight I was doing alright. It certainly didn't help with the midset though so I would keep up the good work of sticking to it. Many on this board say they didn't have a pre-op diet and that made me feel better. I am on day 5 and still can't get past thin liquids so hopefully I will start progressing to be able to do thickend Soup broth. I still don't feel hungry, but If I wasn't so scared of my band I would be throwing back a Steak and Baked potato. I guess that is why I got this band, to scare me to death!!! Kim

Hey Pam congrats on the weightloss so far. I am also in Mesquite and also just had my lap band done from Dr.Powell in Richardson on November 1st. So far can't get much down without feeling so full and needing to constantly hiccup or burp. I did get out and walk the dog today so that felt good with our nice weather. I didn't do so well on the pre-op but still lost some none the less. The Myocel they gave us was horrible until I found some sugar free choco syrup to go into my smoothie machine with it. Let me know how you progress, I am beginning to think I will never be able to eat a real food at this point... Kim

Well, I am on day 3 after banding. I am not hungry, but my stomach growls for food. Anytime I try to drink something more than water or Gatorade I feel like I need to belch but can't. This gets painful but less scary now that I know what it feels like and that I won't throw up hopefully. The area where my port is at is swollen and sore, but getting better by the day. Other than that just a little sore, no major pain. I am making my laps around my 1 bedroom apartment to keep my walking up. I think I will venture outside today since it was my first day with a shower since Monday. Hopefully I will quit having the gas buildup because I think I should be getting more down that 1 bottle of Gatorade and 1 bottle of water a day. I'm sure I will progress, just wondering if anyone else had the same problem thier first few days? I got down a protien shake yesterday, but haven't been able to get one down today. I will keep trying since my stomach won't stop growling. I am officially banded and can't wait to start working out...I'm so excited!

So ok, I am having my lap bad surgery on 11-01-04 and I'm on day 2 of my pre-surgery diet. I started the Protein shakes yesterday and pretty much gagged due to the horrible taste. I can do the small meals I am required but after drinking those shakes I don't think I can have this surgery. Can you believe a nasty shake will change my mind completely about this surgery. I had pretty much talked myself out of this surgery by lunch so I lunch I went and purged on anything in sight. My demon of choice today was all of the bad things at Boston Market. I have completely indulged myself and I'm sitting here after lunch miserable and sick with myself. I am so obsessed with food that I have having these second thoughts of how I am not going to be able to have the things I love so dearly in life after the procedure is done. Did anyone else have this problem and is it too late to keep trying with the pre-surgery diet?? Now that I am full and know that this obsession is the reason I am having this surgery makes me want to have it now. Did anyone else have second thoughts?? Thanks, Kim

Thanks so much for all of the advice. What is really weird is that I got used to the shakes. Still not good, but not horrible either. I got a smoothie machine and I am fully aware this will be used everyday after the surgery. I am so excited about my surgery I can hardly wait now. The countdown has begun and there are only 2 days left now. I'm going to stay strictly on liquids today and tomorrow and maybe this will counteract any cheating I did on my pre surgery diet. I'm already feeling smaller. I will see you all on the other side! Kim

Ok, so my husband scared me. He told me that his boss knew a woman that cheated on her pre-surgery diet and before the surgery they did some sort of test that showed she had stuff in her bowels. He said they wouldn't do the surgery after that. Has anyone ever heard of this? I am scared because I cheated a little with some pecans and I am scared they won't do my surgery now. Did anyone have a test like this before their surgery? Kim

That does make me feel better. I figured they would tell me if they were going to do any test to scare me away from cheating. I have lost some weight already and that is a good start. My surgery is November 1st at 6:30 in the morn. That means no Halloween candy for me. But it is worth it to have this surgery. I'm getting so excited. To hear that others had no pre-op meal plan makes me feel better. My BMI is 45 now and realistically I just want to get under 200 pounds. But hopefully I can get down to 130 one day. I can't wait to start my band journey! Thanks for replying!

Well, The Surgery Center of Richardson is where I am having my surgery and it isn't even free. Oh well, it is going to be less than I see some people have to pay since the insurance is covering it. Why couldn't we be so lucky!!? Kim

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I'm bi-polar or something...I have completely been able to change my outlook on this with all of your and my family and friends support. I talked to my doctor who prescribed the shake and luckily after the surgery I can pick my own kind of shakes. Since I really love the pre-made Atkins shake it seems I will live through the rest of the week and a half after all. I am taking it one day at a time, actually one meal at a time and I cut back to forcing down 1 awful shake a day. My husband got me some sugar free chocolate syrup to help me get it down. Not AS bad, but still gagging it down. 10 days left and counting until my surgery and now I can't wait. Thanks to everyone again! Kim

So, Ok here I am. I am getting banded by Dr. Powell in Dallas on November 1st. So far it has been pretty easy for me. I live 20 minutes from my doctors office and my insurance was approved in 2 weeks. 2 weeks after that I had my surgery scheduled, again a 20 minute drive from my house. It all seems too easy compared to some of the stories I have read online. I have been chubby my whole life, but in the past year I have been falling apart. I had my gall bladder taken out, horrible acid reflux, and my knees crack and my body aches. No matter my size I have been fairly active in te past and could always go longer than my skinny friends when it came to walking or exercise. NOW, not som much. I am so excited to have my surgery and I have my final pre-surgery meal planned for this Sunday, since I have to start on my 2 week liquid pre-diet. I am hoping this will change my life as much as it has changed everyone else's life on this board. Kim

It's good to know people do fine without having a pre-surgery diet. I feel much better and hope today wont happen again. Way to go on the weight loss!! I'm excited all over again reading this website! Thanks, Kim

I have United Healthcare too. It took me 2 weeks and my doctors face lit up when I told him who I have. He told me they are the easiest company to deal with and have a high approval weight. Give it a little longer and they will call in no time with your approval. My surgeon didn't even charge me after the approval I jsut had to pay my 10% to the surgery center for their work. My total has come to $958.00 for the entire surgery. Hang in there! Kim
