I am on the other end of the spectrum from some of you. I am a very organized clean freak. I do all of my cleaning every 3 days. This includes scrubbing every floor, vacuuming, cleaning sinks toilets and etc, dusting and everything else under the sun that needs to be done in a house. I do laundry every night and make sure it is dried, folded and put away before I go to bed. If something is out of place in our house I am out of place. I have to have things put where they belong. The most relaxing thing to me is to get up in the morning on my cleaning days and do ALL of my cleaning right away (I go to work mid morning to afternoon) and then go to work and come home and have an early supper with my family, clean up afterwards and then set and read or get on the computer. I am very relaxed when my house is clean. I have 2 teenagers and my DD takes after mom, (she is a neat freak too) my DS on the other hand is a slob and would leave things lay if he was not told to put them away. DH he just goes with the flow. When we met (this is my second marriage) he had his own place and he kept it so so. He was fine if things started to pile up. Drove me nuts!!!! Needless to say we didn't stay at his place often. HAHA He does great though. I have a wonderful hubby that keeps things picked up and put away. My motto is when you want to use it get it from where it belongs.....when your done with it put it back where you got it from.

I have sleep apnea! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
jackie506 replied to jackie506's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
ivonea No I haven't had the surgery yet. I am still in the process of all of the pre op testing and all that. I should be done with all of this in the end of June or Mid July. After that we will submit to insurance and I am hoping I can have surgery in August. I just did my second night in the sleep clinic to titrate to the machine 2 nights ago. I honestly have to say that I slept ALL night. I haven't done that in years. I was not uncomfortable with the machine or mask and I felt very rested the next morning. They told me that t hey will send the results to my doctor and he will prescribe my machine at the setting that it needs to be set at. I am hoping that I can get the same kind of mask and that it goes as well at home as it did there the other night. I asked the tech the other night if sleep apnea is pretty common and he states it is. He told me everyone has some sleep apnea but the 'normal' number of apnea episodes in an hour are 3-5 and I had 7 so really mild is VERY mild. He told me that I will probably not need the machine once I have the surgery and loss so weight but he couldn't guarantee that and I understand that but I can hope. HAHA. Anyway he also told me that even though my apnea is so mild the surgeon that I am having requires me to have a CPAP because it will help with the healing process and the already high risk because I am obese. I don't mind that either because I am thankful my surgeon is being so proactive instead of reactive if something were to happen or go wrong. He told me to think of all the pre op testing as the most invasive medical physical I will ever in my life have. He said they will look me up and down, inside out and around and around. I guess I am very thankful that he is being so careful. Good luck with your apnea and hopefully after some more weight loss you will not have to wear the mask anymore. Have you tried different masks? I started with a mask that just covered my nose but I couldn't use that because I am a mouth breather at night so then I used a mask that covered my nose and my mouth and I was fine.:clap2: -
Would you do it again?

Thanks for the info eficka. I will tell my friend that was at that the seminar totally set to have the lap band and then when she heard this she was undecided and thinks that she should/has to have the rouxenY because she loves sweets. Don't get me wrong I like my sweets to sometimes but even now prebanded I eat them maybe 1 time a week. Thank you all for all your words of wisdom. This forum really helps the prebanded and banded people. I am so happy I found this sight before I am banded. I have learned so much and I love sharing all my info that I learn with my family hoping that maybe that will help them understand the band a little better also. -
Dr Huacuz Should Sleeve Gastrectomy
jackie506 replied to lucartwlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Also what about surgery complications? Is this surgery approved in the US? What is the success rate for this surgery vs lap band. I have read several articles and threads that talk about people regaining there weight after 5-6 years with the rouxenY. What about this? Sorry I am asking so many questions. I am just really interested in weighing all of my options before making a definate decision. THanks everyone -
Dr Huacuz Should Sleeve Gastrectomy
jackie506 replied to lucartwlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can someone tell me what the 'sleeve' is? Do they cut and reroute or what? Is this like the rouxen Y? I am considering the band because I don't want anything GOD gave me rerouted or cut out of me. Please give me some insight to this. Thanks:D -
I am not banded yet but I can say that about 3 months ago we switched from using regular pasta to the wheat grain/whole wheat pasta and it is just as good. I actually thought my kids (teenagers) would say they don't like it (just because they are teens and it is healthy haha) but they both tell me they can not taste the difference and either can I or my husband. We use it in whatever we make or have that requires pasta. Try it out. Congrats on getting banded. I am sooooooo envious of you and can't wait to join you losers (no pun intended). Good luck on your journey.

I have sleep apnea! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
jackie506 replied to jackie506's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Paula- They told me that I will be ALOT less restless at night and that I will not be so tired at home. I am the same way your husband is. I toss and turn and gasp and snore at night and have restless sleep but during the day I am so tired. If you have irregular heartbeat DUE to sleep apnea I was told that it would correct that over time because you will be getting a steady flow of oxygen and will/should not have apnea episodes (stop breathing) I also have acid reflux. Have had it for years. To my knowledge it has nothing to do with the sleep apnea because I know I did not have that for the last 10 years but I have had the other. The band may improve the acid reflux but I was also told that sometimes it can make it worse. (God forbid I hope this doesn't happen to me!!!!) In the past when I have lost substantial amounts of weight my acid reflux has gone away totally but when I gain the weight back it comes along with the weight. I am hoping that the band will help both of these. Good luck with your husband. -
lap band pain vs tubal litigation pain?
jackie506 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
OK. This may sound realy weird to some but I was just wondering how many have had their tubes tied and the lap band and how does the pain/soreness compare afterward? I have read so many posts on hear about not having pain and having pain that I was just wondering if anyone can compare the two for me. Thanks!!! -
lap band pain vs tubal litigation pain?
jackie506 replied to jackie506's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes it is supposed to be permanent. Unfortunately after I had my tubes tied I married 2 years later and my husband and I talked about reversal. My insurnace (BCBS of Iowa) does not cover that but they cover to do it. (I had different insurance when I had them tied) Then just out of curousity we looked into out of pocket amount and the surgery was $21,000.00 and it is HARD to conceive even after reversal due to scar tissue so we've decided not to have it done for several reasons 1 being I have 2 children from a previous marriage and they are both teenagers so that would ultimately mean raising a 'new' family. Didn't want to do this after we thought about it. My mom had hers tied when we were younger and then 'untied' when she married my step dad and she conceived 4 times but lost each one. I didnt think I could handle the heartache of that so we are happy with what God has given us. -

I have sleep apnea! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
jackie506 replied to jackie506's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the feedback Marjon!! Sounds like they must be right by your comment. I am hoping that it will help with me being sooooo tired all the time. All I ever want to do is sleep and I never feel like I get enough. Turns out....I'm not!!! My symptoms are I am tired ALL the time, snoring, gasping for air and constantly repositioning in bed at night. My daughter is the one who noticed the gasping. I didn't even know that I do it. She has woke me up several times and said 'what is wrong mom' and I had no idea what she was talking about. She kinda freaked me out a few times because I would wake up, you know you feel like someone is watching you sleep, and she would be standing right next to my bed watching me. She lost her dad when he was 35 to complications from juvenile diabetis so she is VERY over protective of her mom. Thank goodness for her because I never would have thought about sleep apnea. I was going to test a long time ago and never did but once I started really pursuing the lap band it was a requirement so I had to do it. I am thankful I did and now I am looking forward to seeing what a REAL nights sleep is like. HAHA -
My boyfriend just told me I limit our relationship.
jackie506 replied to CajunCutie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so sorry that he said something like that to you. Sounds like you need to kick him to the curb and start loving yourself. Try thinking about the long term effect he will have on you. Will he be supportive of you after you are banded? Doesn't sound like he is doing that now, do you think that will change? Does he think once you are banded that you will loss the weight over night? Come on, we didn't gain it over night so obviously we won't loss it over night either. I guess my advise to you would be, love yourself and be true to yourself. You have to do this for YOU not him or anyone else. I too am waiting to be banded but I blame NO ONE else for the way I am. I take full responsibility for it. I got myself into this and now I need to get myself out. I am looking to get banded as well for that extra support and right now I am in my supervised diet AGAIN!!! Frustrating but I will do what ever they require of me to get this help. I do have to say though that in 4 weeks I have lost 11 lbs so I am happy about that. Anyway, this is not about me. Please take care of yourself and forget him if he can not be a positive in your life. We all need help besides getting banded. My opinion is the band is a 'reminder' when we have had enough but we still have to try to fix or learn to deal with ourselves emotionally. Take care of yourself. Good luck to you on this journey. -
lap band pain vs tubal litigation pain?
jackie506 replied to jackie506's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for you replies. I was sore after the tubal and I just gave into it and laid in bed for 2 days. WRONG thing to do. I needed to MAKE myself move around so believe me I think I have learned from that mistake. This helps me put it into a little perspective. -

Are There ANY Eastern Iowa Bandsters?
jackie506 replied to NINNYED's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I done my psych eval on Monday. It only took me 1 week to get into Dr. Raju. I have red on here that some people have to wait to hear what their results were but Dr. told me before I left that he sees no reason that I would not be a good candidate for the surgery. I am going tomorrow night for my sleep study. I met with the pA and nutritionist at Dr. Glascocks last week also. My regular doc has to order my endoscopy and echo (I was on phen phen a few years ago and never had it tested after that. My doc says if I had the heart probs caused by phen phen they would have reared their ugly head by now. I am keeping my fingers crossed!) I had to start my whole 6 month diet over because I have not had one in the last couple of years. I have done 2 in previous years but my insurance says it has to be in the 2 years propr to requesting surgery. Fortunately I have seen my doc every month for the last 3 months for sure (I thinnk I also went in January though) and we have talked about my weight issues and what I can do and etc so we are going to use some of that for the 6 month supervised. Hey I was there doing what they wanted and didn't even know for sure I was going to be needing that all documented like this but I guess I killed 2 birds with 1 stone huh?! Anyway, I am hoping to be able to have surgery by the end of summer. I am really shooting for that. I would like both of my kids to be there (14 and almost 16) so I am hoping before school this fall. They lost their dad almost 4 years ago at the age of 35 to diabetis so they get extrememly frantic when it comes to surgery or anything medical with me in which is totally understandable. They only have 2 parents and unfortunately they lost one and watched him suffer so I am keeping them totally informed as to what is going on. Sorry for rambling......I just love this site. Everyone knows exactly what the other is feeling. I finally feel like I 'fit in'. Keep me posted on your surgery and progress. :gluck: -
Hello everyone. I am looking for people who have had lap band done by Dr. Glascock in Cedar Falls Iowa. I have done my seminar, consult and psych eval and I am in the process of finishing all my tests and then presenting to insurance. If anyone has had Dr. Glascock any comments or suggestions would be wonderful and very appreciated. What was your experience with the staff, how long once you were approved by insurance before surgery? I know many people don't like all the pre op testing but I say 'bring it on' the more the merrier. I think Dr. Glascock is being very thorough and that makes me feel even more at ease knowing that he is checking about every thing there is to check to try to eliminate any complications. Anyway any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Medic Alert ID or not?
jackie506 replied to anonemouse's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As soon as I started thinking of the band one of my fears was 'what if I get into an accident and they don't know I have a band?' I thought to myself 'I need a medical ID'. I have not been banded yet but I can assure you that before my surgery my medical ID will be here in hand and go right to the hospital me. -

I am from the Nashua Charles City area (I actually live in Ionia but nobody ever knows where that is so it is best when I describe the 'bigger' towns around me. HAHA) Anyone who used Dr. Glascock I am also VERY interested in hearing about your experiences. How long did it take once you had insurance approval to get banded? -

jackie506 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:straight Ok. I went for my psych eval today...passed with flying colors. He told me before I left there is no reason that I would not be a good candidate for this surgery so that part is finished. Have my sleep study Thursday night Doctor is scheduling my endoscopy and echo cardiogram. Those were the only tests they told me I would have to do BUT......... I guess I just need some reassurance after meeting with the psych today. He talked alot about giving up favorite foods and how big of a change this is and 'are you sure you are ready to accept that change'. Ok I have reearched this forever, read 3 books, 2 more on the way, read and read and read on here and a few other lapband discussion boards and yes I do feel that I am ready. I KNOW that it is a HUGE commitment and life style change. One thing that he said to me bothered me though. We were talking about my support and etc and I told him that I have alot of support and feel that I will do well because of that. I told him of a friend of mine whom I used to go out for salads with once a week and that she knows that I am doing this surgery and her comment was 'well I guess we add another day to our YMCA schedule. (we bought YMCA memberships together and go together.) OK this is what bothered me, he said 'yeah because you will not be able to go out and eat.' Ok I know that I will not be able to go out and eat alot but I can still go out to eat (right?!) I mean I have never really been one for the fast food thing or sweets but every now and then I would like to go out and have a meal with my family and friends. I know my portions have to change. When I went to the nutritionist and took her my menu logs of what I have been eating everyday she told me that I am eating exactly what I need to be eating it is just my portion control. I guess the biggest question that I have is am I not going to be able to set and do the family meals with my family anymore and make it enjoyable for myself and them. I know that probably doesn't make much sense. I don't know. I am just caught on a mountain top right now and not sure which way I should be falling. I want like to change of course because other wise I would not be considering this but yet at the same time I do not want to be an 'unsocialized' feak because I am not able to go out and have a meal with friends or family anymore. I just need some words of encouragment. I KNOW lap band is the right thing and I really do want to do this. I just need some to hear some of your stories as to what you do in these situations. Thanks everyone -
