    Pre And Post Sleeve Differences?

I am almost 9 weeks post op and 53 pounds down! I would not change my descion to have the sleeve done.... Let's talk food. I have learned that folks who don't have the sleeve do not understand some of the frustrations of us who do have it. There are quirks, but on my end, I think the results outweigh the quirks. I have a very, and I mean very hard time with soft breads, tortillas and rice. I can actually feel the simple sugars breaking down and causing gas. Broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage are my devil. I do not touch them at all since being sleeved. Learned my lesson eating them last weekend. My insides felt like an atomic bomb went off. I had horrible acid reflux before surgery and lived on tums, rolaids and ranitidine. Since surgery, not one episode. Spicy food is iffy with me. Sometimes it makes me feel like it just burning its way thru, other times, going down is way better than the coming out. I try to maximize protein, and eat very little carbs. It's not easy, but I try to stay under 40-50g carbs daily. Again, carbs from fruits and some other foods I can tolerate. Cake, pie, anything "sweet", my body HATES! If I eat anything like that, even a bite, I sweat, my heart races and it doesn't stop until I lay down and take a quick nap or wrap a cold towel around my neck. One thing I also learned, I get annoyed very quick at how others eat now. The smacking lips, finger licking, stuffing food down the throat with out tasting, drives me nuts. I have had to really slow down on going out to eat with others because the sounds and sights make me ill. Smells of food now make my stomach turn, in particular green beans! Fried food I also a big fat no no for me. It sits like a rock in my throat. I was talking to my parents about all this last night. It seems like a pain in the butt for all this, but I am SO thankful because it's all foods I should it be eating anyways. I stick with a lot of veggies, fruits and grilled meats. I also do well with nuts/trail mix and jerky. I also live off of pickles, peppadews, banana peppers and cucumbers. One last thing...I used to love cheese, it makes me extremely ill now. I can still drink milk, so no lactose issues. Another thing that I found out...the textures of foods now can make or break me.

I'm 4 weeks out and let me tell ya, my uterus feels like a dump truck excavating my body. I always had bad cramps, but heck, I have horrible cramps for two weeks, bleed for one, have 1 week of normal life then back at it again. Welcome to changing hormones!

    Im A May Sleever!

Honey, I was sleeved May 7th. I learned something valuable very quick...warm liquids go way better than cold. Hot tea worked miracles for me. I know everyone is different, but I learned from everyone's tips. Good luck, I promise it does get better!!!!

  8. Hi Shannon! I was sleeved on May 7th. The first two-three days, I was tired and worn out. Day three, no pain meds and have not touched them since. Day five, went shopping (only for about an hour), walked the neighborhood with my dog, and was pretty active. Everyone heals at thier own pace. I tolerate surgery very well, except for the constipation. I think the vitamins and staying hydrated really, really help, however, I am post op day 6 and still working in all the fluids. I don't have any regrets, and am looking forward to success.

    Im A May Sleever!

Just wanted to put in a little side note. I have had the most horrible knock your socks off pain in my upper abdomin since a few days after surgery. I thought it was gas pains. I noticed that I had not really "used the bathroom" in a few days. Drank some tea last night to see if I could shake things up a bit. Finally used the bathroom this morning and have not had the pain once. Looked everywhere to see if others had this issue and seems to be a build up of constipation and intestinal gases. I am going to work in some benefiber or miralax every so often an hopefully the pains stay away!

    So Nervous!

Getting sleeved May 7th, but I guess the anxiety is kicking in...I guess it's normal because it is surgery and it will help me save my life...but, I'm getting really freaked out...

    So Nervous!

Had my sleeve done Monday, the 7th. Definately takes some getting used to. Left the hospital on Tuesday, by Wednesday was off pain meds. Keeping up on the liquids is hard, the vitamins even worse. I am drinking more by the day, and feeling a lot better. The gas pains really suck, and walking does help. Can't wait until my follow up on Monday, I can't wait to eat yogurt and a little bit of an egg!!!! With the pre and post op diet, I am learning that I miss solid food and the taste of real food. The small burps, and bowel gurgles are crazy!

  13. Doc said I did great. He didn't even have to do the intended seven openings. Only had to do three! I'm up, walking a lot, my vision is blurry, but it's probay due to my blood sugar. I do have pain in my actual stomach pouch, but I am continuing with pain medications. Nurse said it was totally normal. I get my swallow test today, so a little nervous about that. Gas pains were not horrible. Good luck to all still waitin to get sleeved!

    Im A May Sleever!

Delta, you can do it! I'm on day 9 I think, lost track, my emotions are out of wack, of the preop diet. It's really not horrible. I have to force myself to get more than 600 calories a day in. The protein shakes keep you pretty full!
  17. @mina- the doc wanted me to start right away when I did my pre op class. It comes out to 16 days. I have co-morbid conditions (PCOS and type 2 diabetes), and before I started the liquid diet I was 347. My doc felt it was best to do the liquids to minimize any liver damage and to try and reduce any fatty liver issues. I met someone else here in St. Louis that had the same surgery, same doc, an she didn't have to do liquids. I have seen ppl do 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, and even 21 days!

    Pre-Op Diet Suggestions

EAS shakes are a great option. They are pretty good, 17 grams protein and 100 calories each.
  19. I am on day 9 pre op liquids...lost 16 pounds so far, but am stalling now.....(sad face)

    Pre- Pre Op Diet

You can do this! I have been on the pre op diet 9 days now. It is hard. I am cranky, I have been a little snappy, but, I have noticed with all the protein shakes, I'm not really hungry and I have issues getting in all the shakes because of it. My surgery is May 7th. You can do this!!!! Good luck with everything! Join My Fitness Pal...great way to track progress.
