All the suggestions above may help. For me, if I don't get all my Water in, constipation is guaranteed. Before surgery, I was very regular and never had any constipation issues. I've realized if I miss my daily water goal, I'm in trouble. I used prunes, Dulcolax stool soften and water to fix the situation. Best wishes to you!

Alcohol and the sleeve!
chimboree26 replied to kimmiethomason1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First, no judgment here. Just trying to help you. I would definitely talk to your doctor. You don't want to create problems for yourself. You may be doing damage to your stomach/digestive tract because alcohol can cause inflammation. Also, you have to think about the damage you might be causing to your liver. Our livers are already working hard due to the major weight loss. And then there's the mental aspect. Maybe you've heard about addiction transfer, where WLS patients trade their issues with food to something else. Not saying that's what you're doing, but it's something to think about. If you feel like things are getting out of hand, go talk to a counselor/therapist. Also, try to find a healthier form of stress relief. Best wishes to you on your journey! -
New body, new set of problems
chimboree26 replied to Tootsietoes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery 8/11/15 and I'm experiencing the back/joint pain. I'm doing great getting in my Vitamins, Protein and Water. I am also exercising. From other post-ops who have experienced the same thing, they said it will pass. I think it's just your body getting adjusted to the significant weight loss. It makes sense. For so long, your joints have been compressed by the additional weight and now it's gone. Also, I would certainly work on getting back on track with your vitamins, protein and water. Talk with your surgeon/dietician and press the reset button. I bet you will feel SO much better. Nutritional deficiencies can wreak havoc on us physically and mentally. As the others have said, try talking with someone about the depression. Best wishes to you on your journey! You can do this. Remember, you deserve better for yourself! ) -
I had my revision surgery (band to sleeve) on 8/11/2015. It took about 6 weeks before the large incision stopped hurting. A couple of my incisions are a little tender if I press on them, but at this point, they don't hurt. My surgeon sent me home with something called On-Q, which is a local anesthetic pain pump. This thing was GREAT! It kept my abdomen numb for the first several days. I was discharge on Friday. On Sunday, it was time to remove it. Some may be a bit squeamish about it, but it was very simple. I just had to pull the two catheters out and put a Band-Aid on the incision. Even after the removal of On-Q, I stayed numb for about 2 more days. Sorry for the tangent! Best wishes to you on your journey!

Considering revision to sleeve from band
chimboree26 replied to LoisinStA's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had revision surgery--band to sleeve-- on 8/11. I'm doing very well. I stayed two nights in the hospital. Glad I did it. The 2nd day post-op was the worst for me, due to nausea, not pain. -
ANY AUGUST SLEEVERS
chimboree26 replied to perk4756's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looks like I may be an AUGUST sleever, too! I have done my psych evaluation, chest X-ray, primary care doctor visit, and abdominal ultrasound. I have my EGD consult tomorrow and sleep study consult next week. Moving right along. I will be doing a revision from the band. -
Help... At the edge of giving up
chimboree26 replied to nikkipk72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nikkipk72: I know exactly how you feel. I was banded in 2007 and did awesome with my band. I lost 80 pounds. I got pregnant in 2009, lost my band during the pregnancy, then had to wait another year to get re-banded. Well, the second time around hasn't been as successful. I'm disappointed with myself because I KNOW for a fact that I can do this. I just don't understand why I'm not. I have an appointment later this month to get a fill. I really want to buckle down and get this train moving! Your post is encouraging and I certainly wish you the best in your journey. You can do this and so can I! ) -
Week 2, Day 1 - Done. Today was a little rough for me. I finished, but I was coughing quite a bit. It's a little cool now, so I think that had something to do with it. Maybe a lil exercise induced asthma. I may have to get an inhaler. We'll see. I'm hanging in there!

Week 1, Day 3 done! And in the rain...which is kinda a big deal, given that I'm black and rain is my hair's enemy. :-D Anyhow, it feels good to have accomplished this! Cherea

I completed WEEK 1, DAY 2. Woohoo! I went a little over a mile today. And to be honest, it really was a little easier today than on Monday. I also am down 6 pounds (3 lbs last week & 3 this week)! This is awesome. I increased my water intake and exercise, so I think that's the difference. Excited.

Thanks for the offer! And CONGRATS to you for finishing the 5K and moving on to the 10K. That is great. I would love having someone help keep me on track.
-
Guess who just completed her first day of C25K? Woohoo! I'm so proud of myself. And I feel pretty good...now. LOL. I had to work to finish, but I did. I encourage you to do it if you've been thinking about it. Just start and take it one step at a time.

I really want to do this. I am at 274 right now, but I really think I can do this. And for me, now that it is Fall, it may be a bit easier. I don't do well with the heat. I would love to start with you and we can help encourage one another.

I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP
chimboree26 replied to Tabithan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm glad that I found this thread. Well, I'm on my 2nd band and struggling this one. My first band (July 2007) experience was awesome. I lost 80 lbs! Fast forward through a rough pregnancy (preeclampsia), knee injury and surgery, then a blood clot...gets me to where I am today. I've gained weight, but I'm still under my pre-pregnancy weight. Anyhow, I'm disappointed in myself and am ready to do this! I know this band works and I know I can do it! I'm ready to help everyone else on here. We can do it. Best to all of you and Happy New Year. -
Things you learned after LB install that you discovered afterward.

This one is for the ladies: 1. Your time of the month may affect the tightness of your band. Some people retain water/swell. I notice a little tightness just before that time. 2. And yes, keep pineapple juice around! It will be your best friend in the event you get stuck. I didn't get stuck often, but I kept a can in my car and one at work, just in case. And honest to goodness, it works! The papaya enzymes the docs recommend will work, too, but not as fast as the pineapple juice. That's what I've found. 3. Don't be impatient with this process. You will get there! For some, the weight comes off a little faster...not so fast for others. That's okay. Slow and steady wins the race. At least it's coming (and staying) off, right? -
Hey all! I'm 2 days post-op and doing well. I've only had my liquids...Muscle Milk, chicken broth, and sugar-free strawberry Jello. Please, please don't cheat. I know it is hard...this is my 2nd time around (band removed during my last pregnancy due to a slip...kept puking from prenatal vitamins). The band is held in place by the scar tissue/adhesions formed early on in your recovery. These adhesions will hold your band in place, so it's important that they form properly. Chewing and putting anything solid in your stomach causes your stomach to churn, which we don't want. That's why the liquid diet is so important. Just hang in there! It will ALL be worth it. Trust me!!! We can all do it.

February 2011 Bandsters?
chimboree26 replied to justplaintired's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I did. Only a few people knew before the surgery. I just didn't want anybody else's 2 cents. I took a lot of time researching this and I made my decision. I just didn't want their input. But once I started losing the weight, if people asked, I told them. -
Usually most insurance companies will accept wt loss histories from Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc. I know my plan accepts them. Just call and ask them. They'll tell you. Or sometimes you can access the actual policy online. I can w/Carefirst BC/BS. But again, if you call and ask them, they will tell you what the policy says. And I'm w/you regarding the weight gain from pregnancy. I can't wait to get my band back!! I wish you the best.

Hey Nally! I'm being re-banded by Dr. Halmi on 2/23/11!!! YAY! Dr. Halmi and Dr. Tran put my original band in and I can't wait to get re-banded. Maybe I'll see you at the office one of these days. -
Surgery this week
chimboree26 replied to Lorilovesflowers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may also just be realizing just how much this surgery is going to improve your health/quality of life. If this surgery has been a long time coming (like it is for so many), the reality of it actually happening may be hitting you, too. Just another idea. Cherea -
Hi Kim, I am so sorry about your situation. I applaud you for taking a major step to better yourself. This will make you a better wife, mom, sister, daughter, and/or friend. As others have said, some people are just unwilling to accept change...and let's face it, WLS is a major life change. It is a change that affects your family, your friends, and co-workers. Your family, in particular, get to see the ins and outs of the changes that you're making. You are changing the way you eat, perhaps changing the way they eat. And they may not like it or be ready for it. To help your family understand, like Victoria said, educate them. Maybe leave some of the brochures around, or try to find out what their objections are. The most important thing is to stay plugged into this site. I have made some wonderful friends through this site--people I still keep in contact with. When you are down and discouraged, trust and believe that someone on this site has been there or is there at the moment. Just reach out and keep posting. Someone is always on here to help out. And make sure you post your victories and positive stories, too. You never know who you may be encouraging!

Band!! No, Sleeve! No, never mind, maybe nothing..
chimboree26 replied to renniemommietoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I had the band put in back in 2007. Absolutely loved it. I lost 80 lbs., then I got pregnant. Due to severe nausea and vomiting from prenatal Vitamins, my band slipped. We did surgery (while 16 wks prego) to remove it. It was my decision to remove it b/c who knew if the vomiting would stop? I couldn't keep having surgeries to repair the slip. Anyhow...I am now scheduled to get my band put back in Feb 23rd!!! I am thrilled. One main reason I chose the band was b/c it is reversible. Prior to my pregnancy in 2009, I didn't have any complications wthe band at all. I followed my doctor's and nutrionist's advice and the band worked for me. I had a gym membership and personal trainer (off and on) and worked my tail off--literally! Ultimately, the decision is yours. You just have to figure out what you truly want and will be happy with. For me, the other surgeries were just too drastic and permanent for me. But for some people, that is okay with them. I certainly wish you the best in your decision.
