I just had my surgery yesterday at Manatee Memorial in Bradenton, FL at 7:15 am on May 2nd. I don't rememeber a thing, except for being moved into same day surgery. I have very little pain, some gas in the shoulders and a little bit of muscle pain, and at the port site....I feel great, and probably could have gone to work today for a few hours if I wanted too. I cant believe how well I feel. I was getting ready to say forget it at the last minute because I don't like pain or feeling "sick". I was home by 1:30 that afternoon, but probably could have been home earlier, but the nurse was waiting for a bed to put me in, she thought I was going to be admitted, but misread the chart. I also feel a little bit hungry, but nothing that a sip or two of Water can't handle....I also reccomend a couple of surger free popsicles (not orange or cherry) for your throat, makes it feel great. I still can't get over how well I feel.

3 day liquids? your lucky, I had 10 days. Believe me I was ready to say forget it because of the surgery, but it has really been nothing. I am going back to work tomorrow for a full day for the 1st time, I went in Friday (2 days post op) for a couple of hours to return calls and messages, but overall it has been ok. I have been using liquid tylenol once a day, but nothing else. It has been so far a good experience. THis website helped a lot though, thats why I posted. -

chefschoon replied to SillyWillyMommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was home 6 hours post op. I woke up being wheeled from recovery to the same day sitting area, I had been in post op observation for an hour, they made me sit up in a chair, gave me some water, checked my vitals 1000 times, made me pee (which hurt like hell), made me walk, and out thedoor I went! I felt good. -
:notagree had my surgery yesterday, other than some tiredness, I fell good. I don't remember any of the surgery. All I remember is being wheeled into the OR room, moving onto the table, and that was it. At 9:15 I woke up and asked the nurse where i was, and she was moving me to the same day holding area. We pickedu p my wife and away we went. They gave me some ice in same day surgery and I had no problems. Breathing was good, no swelling, not much pain. SHe gave me some lortab because I had a little bit of pain around my port, but I think it is my muscle. I had a good night last night, stayed in the recliner for a bit, then I sat up in bed for about 4 hours, then the gas started. So I went back to the couch and let it rip!! man that felt good. :heh: Today I am going to walk around and monitor my pain...so far so good. :clap2:

I have empire BCBS as well (But I am in FL, company I work for is in NY)....I did the same exact thing as you, and I was accepted in 4 days from submission.....however, a week later I got a letter in the mail of denial, then the next day I got an approval letter. They did the same thing to my wife when she had her c-section. 2 days after her emergency operation, we recieved a letter in the mail saying that it was not medically necessary and they werent going to cover it.....but then the next day we got a letter saying it was approved...... crazy insurance. I used to live in Albany so I know most of the people that work in that office of Empire.....

Protein Drinks...good and bad
chefschoon replied to kacee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there is a great product called "Boost Glucose Control"...its meant for diabetics but the nutritionist here said it is excellent for gastric patients. It has 16 grams of protien in it...good stuff. You can buy it at Walgreens, CVS,etc. but you may have to ask them to order it for you. I work as a director of food service and usually I work for 14-16 hours, and I have found that pre-surgery, this is the only product that gets me through the day. I drink it around 7 am or so and I am good for about 5 hours. -
Surgery in 11 days, nervous is an understatement!!

I am in the same boat as you!! My surgery is on Wed....never had any kind of surgery before, and never been in the hosptial before, other than working in one!!!!! Don't worry, well get through it! I have the advantage of knowing all of the OR staff since I work where i am having it done, and they assure me everything will be fine. Ill let you know how I make out. -
I am scheduled for the lap band on 5/2. I am 6 days into my clear liquids. I have found that if you have your protien in the morning, you end up having a good day. The first 2 days were hard. Now I am doing ok. I found that this product, called Boost Glucose Control that is the best. Getting nervous at this point, but overall I am excited to have it done. I just can take anymore broth!!!
