    Sounds awesome!

    Diet Soda

I was told no carbonated drinks or caffeine for life after surgery, but I know not everyone even with my same surgeon follow the guidelines. However, I plan to follow them.

    Hey All

wow! amazing story! thanks for sharing! If you haven't seen it already, you might want to check out www.300poundsdown.com - about lady who had sleeve surgery too. She's on here too, but I don't know her username here.

    Whats Considered Full Liquids?

It really depends on the doctor, but basically, yes, anything that is runny. My suggestions from my doctor are V8 juice (but not other juices), cream soups without chunks of stuff, SF pudding, & protein drinks. I know some who consider runny oatmeal & grits & yogurt part of full liquid, but I was told those were more for puréed/soft stage. However, I guess if you made anything runny enough it'd be considered liquid. You just want to ease into things & not do anything too "heavy" right away.

I'm mygastricsleevelife there too. I think it's in the "fitness" forum section that there is an "official" MFP thread with tons of prople's IDs if you look for it.

12 Year Old Gastric Sleeve Patient

On our news last week they were announcing a story about 2 surgeries most adults get that kids were now getting. I thought they might be talking about WLS, but I didn't stay up to watch the news. Honestly, I think it shows the sad state of our country and world right now when there are so many obese children. We rarely go outside to play and fast food & junk food is way too available! We need to change our habits - not just resort to surgery, especially for kids who are still growing!

    Ladies: "the Pill" Post-Op?

My surgeon said the pill was okay as long as I waited 30 day after surgery to start again, but I want to ask my GYN too & see what he thinks. I was on the Nuvaring for years until recently because I think my body was finally sick of the nuvaring.

    Bodybugg Vs. Bodymedia Fit?

oh - also, if you go to http://www.bodymedia.com/Products/Learn-More/Compare you can click on different types of devices and compare features and prices & such too. That comes in pretty helpful when comparing the different kinds of products out there.

    Bodybugg Vs. Bodymedia Fit?

I know a lot of people on here use the fitbit. It's cheaper than the others, but it's not as accurate in everything I've read.

    My Self-Imposed Preop Diet.

Looks like you did good! Mine was supposed to be around 650 calories with at least 70 g Protein, less than 60 g carbs & less than 15 g fat. I didn't have a fatty liver, so I could've done regular food, but I was going through final exams at the time and I didn't want to weigh & measure food that much, so I stuck mainly to Protein shakes. I did sometimes have a few slices of deli ham or SF Jello, but I counted everything toward my calories even though I know some doctors don't count the SF jello toward calories. Anyway, it seems like you're off to a great start! It is much harder to get through the pre-op diet than to follow the plan after surgery - at least it was for me! Keep it up!! :-)

    Em I Weird

I get on every morning. However, i use it as a learning tool to help me know my own body and fluctuations and how different foods and exercise influence my body. I don't obsess over the number. It's not good to get on it throughout the day since it goes up and down with food and water and other things throughout the day. Therefore, even if you weigh daily it should be under the same circumstances and the same time of day each day. Just don't be surprised when it stays the same or goes up instead of down since your body is still getting used to surgery and all the changes in your diet now.

    Weight Loss

I've seen anywhere from 10-40 lbs on here before. There are tons of factors of how much we lose and how fast we lose it. Most people will lose more the first 6 months on the sleeve than they would ever lose on a normal diet of the same length.

    Tired Of Choc Protien Shakes

I like Chike Strawberry or Banana the best. Unjury has a Strawberry Sorbet that is good too.

    Vsg Using Spider Surgical Tool?

Mine was normal, but I know my surgeon does the single incision also. I forgot to ask about it & figured it was more expensive so I never ended up asking about it. I met someone else who had it done & said they had no pain afterward doing it that way. Hopefully more people will chime in about it. :-)

    Confused About Clear Fluids...

I was instructed that you have to be able to see light through it. The unflavored Unjury, strawberry sorbet Unjury and chicken soup Unjury count. I also used Beneprotein which I got at Amazon & some Walgreens have. I also could use the Isopure clear liquid at GNC that is already mixed and in 20 oz glass bottles. I could NOT use any other protein drinks even mixed with water that were not see-through. The chocolate & other flavors of Unjury except the 3 I listed above did NOT count for me. The regular powder Isopure did NOT count for me. I would honestly check with your doctor to see what is approved. My surgeon said those others were NOT approved because they are heavier and have more in them and if there is a leak, they don't want tons of stuff to be leaking out. They also told me to stay away from things with red food coloring the day before surgery on my clear liquid day because it could be mistaken for blood during surgery. Please check with your doctor to know for sure what is allowed!!!

What You Wish You Had Known About The Sleeve

I researched & feel I was well prepared. However, one thing I wish other people understood before surgery is that it's not a magic cure & there will be days the scale won't cooperate & there will be days you won't lose anything or might even gain weight as your body adjusts to this new way of life. I knew that & knew what to expect, but I feel a lot of people just don't understand that fact. It's major surgery & a major life change, especially the first few months as you work back up to regular food & your body needs time to adjust to those changes! I feel like some people think the weight is going to magically go away & don't fully understand the fluctuations in their bodies. Along that same line, I feel it's important to measure yourself because sometimes the weight stays the same but the inches change. I also feel it is important to cherish the non-scale victories & I feel like many people don't even notice them!

    Bodybugg Vs. Bodymedia Fit?

I have the BodyMedia FIT. I tried the Bodybugg before too, but liked the BodyMedia one better because their interface was nicer & because it could tell me sleep efficiency if I wear it to bed. I like it because it shows exactly what I'm burning instead of just an estimate based on height @ weight. I use MyFitnessPal & my numbers are often different as far as what I burn through my BodyMedia device than what MFP says. The biggest downfall for me is that the BMF iPhone app doesn't have a UPC scanner to use to enter food like the MFP app does. Therefore, I usually enter all my food on MFP & use the BMF more just to tell what I burn. I used it before surgery & it helped somewhat just to know what I was burning & consuming, but I don't think it necessarily helps with my actual weight loss especially since I wasn't losing weight before surgery even with diet & exercise.

Hair Loss-Why Doesn't Anyone Talk About It?

It is talked about quite a bit. This is where I learned about it! From what I've learned it is mainly due to the shock of major surgery and the rapid weight loss. If you keep up on your Protein and take a Multivitamin & Biotin before surgery, you might be able to avoid losing a lot, but everyone is different. Most people say they start losing at around 4-6 months out from surgery. Unfortunately, from thing I've read, it can't be stopped completely, but it grows back just fine. Some people say it grows back better than their previous hair. Many people say they get a shorter cut during the time it's coming out. I just had surgery 2 weeks ago, so I haven't lost any yet. I'm hoping it doesn't get too bad since I already have a short cut. However, to me it's worth it to lose hair if I'm losing weight & getting healthy.

    Calling Fellow Teachers!

I'm not a teacher now, but am going back to college to get my teaching degree. I just got my Associates & am starting at a university this fall. I'm from upstate NY originally, so I know all about the Labor Day through 3rd week of June schedule! We now live in Austin, TX and have a last week of August through last week of May/first week of June schedule. My daughters get out this coming Friday (some districts here got out last Friday). Anyway, I had my surgery 2 weeks ago. I did my pre-op diet during finals at college & had surgery on 5/14, which was the Monday after my finals were over. I'm so happy with my decision & rejoice in all the little changes I've gone through so far! Good luck to everyone!

    Weight Loss Stalling?!

From what I've read, there can be lots of factors & weight loss slows down the farther out from surgery we are too. Depending on your workout & food intake, you might need to up your calories somewhat in order to lose again & break the habit your body is in now. My surgeon told one patient to alternate and do around 800 calories one day & then 900 & then 800 again so her body didn't get completely use to one level of calories. However, I know it's not his advice for everyone. I'd suggest trying some things like that and also talking to your surgeon and/or dietitian again if possible too. They may have other ideas too.

    Lortab

Just ask your doctor about options. I had Lortab & it is icky, but I tolerated it okay. I know other people who have had other things post-op for pain. It just depends on the doctor.

    Leak?

if you use the little "search" box in the top of the forum, you can find a number of old posts about leaks and symptoms. Usually, you'd have pain & a fever, but there are some I've read who said they didn't really have any symptoms. Good luck. Hopefully it's not a leak!!
