    First Weeks Weight Loss

There are so many things that come into play when losing, it's really important not to compare yourself to others & just trust that if you stick to your plan you'll be successful!

    Regrets Anyone?

I just had surgery on Monday and I can already tell its the best thing I have ever done for myself! If I could've controlled my portions and lost weight & kept it off, I wouldn't have done this. However, I couldn't so I had the surgery done. I know there is still a long road ahead for me, but I'm looking at this as my portion control tool and I'm excited for the road ahead of me. That being said, this is not the route for everyone! You need to research it and think about it and talk to people about it & pray about it (if you're religious) and then decide what is best for you.

    First Weeks Weight Loss

The week after might be tricky because of the surgical gas and stress of surgery. I just had surgery on Monday. My weight at home before going to the hospital was 264.2, but yesterday when the hospital weighed me I was 270.1. Today I'm at 268 on my scale. I know that the increase is just because of the surgical gas and inflammation and IV fluids & such from surgery. I'm positive I will drop back to the 264 and below that with no problem in the next few days. Most people lose the most weight the first month after surgery (many I've seen anywhere from 20-50 lbs) and then it's a little less for the next few months (like 8-15lbs) & then drops to what most normal people lose (5-10 lbs) per month after the first 6 months or so. Again, everyone is different, so you may lose more or less in the same amount of time as someone else. This is just from what I've read in other threads here as far as what I've seen.

Hola! Fresh Out Of The Hospital

oh - and they weighed me in the hospital yesterday. I was 264.2 Monday morning at home before surgery & 270.1 in the hospital yesterday. However, I know it's all because of surgery & will drop again quickly.

Hola! Fresh Out Of The Hospital

Jodi - we're sleeve sisters - my surgery was 5/14 too! I feel lot better than i thought I would at this stage. I had a hard time urinating on my own at the hospital, so they almost kept me another night, but my surgeon prescribed one dose of Flomax that helped enough for them to let me be discharged. I came home about midnight last night. I haven't had any issues urinating since being home. It sure is odd to take over an hour to have a cup of broth - but the good type of odd. Anyway, congrats on your surgery! I hope all goes well from here on out for you too!

    Which Scale

I always weigh first thing in the morning when I get up & go to the bathroom. I use our bathroom scale. I just always keep that in mind when I weigh at the doctor's office since I have more clothes on & may have eaten or whatever.

How Many Times A Day Do You Eat

I had actually misunderstood my guidelines & they were clarified for me today. My surgeon says to not have more than 3 meals a day, but to drink between meals & with drinking I should do protein drinks or crystal light with Beneprotein to get all the protein in.

    Getting Post Op Stuff Together

Everyone is so different, it's hard to recommend things. It also depends on how long you have to stay at each stage after surgery. I like Chike and unjury the best. I also bought Beneprotein to add to broth and water/Crystal Light to add Protein to those things.
  14. it all depends on your doctor's orders. I would think if you're just going to walk, it'd be okay, but I'm no expert. My surgeon says that I can't lift anything more than 10 lbs for 4 weeks. He said it's normally about 4 - 6 weeks out that he clears people for heavier workouts than just walking. You need to follow what your doctor says since every doctor is different.
  15. Hang in there!! I just had my surgery yesterday & am sitting here wasting time until discharge tonight. I feel 98% great! I'm amazed at how well I feel & how much I'm looking forward to this journey to a new me!

  17. I just had my surgery yesterday. I was 264.2 on my home scale yesterday morning. The hospital weighed me this morning and I was 270.1 - it's all because of the IV fluids, surgical gas and the stress of surgery! Do not worry about it!! You'll be back down within a few days or so!!

    Surgery Today - 5/14/12

couldn't end up peeing last night, so they put the catheter back in, but they're going to take it out now & get me of the pain pump. Had my leak test done & there are no leaks!! Now I have ice chips & water, but they're going to give me broth & jello later to see how I tolerate it. I should be going home later this evening. Overall, I'm feeling great!

I thought I had posted here before, but now I can't find it. Anyway, today is my surgery day! My surgery isn't until this afternoon (3:30), so I'm trying to stay busy now! I updated my blog with starting photos & measurements yesterday (my blog is in my signature). I hope everyone has a good week! I'll try to post tonight or tomorrow depending on how I feel. :-)

How Many Times A Day Do You Eat

my guidelines say no more than 3 "meals" but I'm supposed to have 2 or 3 "snacks" also. Therefore, basically eating 5-6 times per day, but only 3 are considered "meals" - since our sleeves can't handle a whole lot of food at once, I'm not really sure what the difference is between a "meal" and a "snack" but I believe, from what my paperwork says, a "meal" would be Protein, veggies, and carb if there's room, but a "snack" would only be like yogurt or a cheese stick or something smaller. From everything I've read, it's more important for us to get our calories (especially protein) in at first and not necessarily worry about the technicalities of when we're eating as long as we're not eating 6 "meals" per day.

    Surgery Today - 5/14/12

I got out of recovery and into my own room about 5 PM. I'm grateful for the pain medicine, but don't think it'll be all that bad by the time I'm discharged tomorrow. I've been up to walk around the hallway once & am feeling pretty good. The only issue is that I can't go pee yet!! I'm trying to make myself stay up a little now & then I'm going to take another walk to see if my bladder will want to wake up after that!!!

    May 15Th...anyone Else?

I had my surgery today. It was supposed to be at 3:30 PM, but the hospital called to have me come in early, so it was actually around 1 PM instead. I was out of recovery & in a room by 5 PM. I've been for one walk around the hall & plan on doing another walk soon to try to wake up my bladder more because the only downfall is that I haven't been able to pee yet! Other than that, though, I'm doing well. I'm glad I have pain medicine, but with the medicine the pain is bearable and not too bad.
