NGMA- I am at the point I want to start working out as well. I walked a little and did some crunches yesterday and boy am I out of shape. I could barely do 20 crunches in a row without almost dying. But I am really motivated now especially now that the weight is falling off. -

Hey Ladies- This is some great info I got from my nutritionist! Thought I would share. Food choices: Making good food choices is a challenge in a world filled with food that is not good. After weight loss surgery good food choices include foods that are mechanically filling (lean, solid protein) and foods that are filling with fewer calories – fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat dairy. Bad food choices are foods that are not mechanically filling (high calorie liquid/mushy, crunchy) and foods that are very calorie dense – crackers, chips, cookies, cheese, nuts, peanut butter, bacon, trail mix, granola, etc. Eating these things can very easily add hundreds of calories per day to your diet. One single serving size bag of chips per day for a year equals 30 pounds worth of calories. An equal amount of carrots for a year is only about 2 pounds worth of calories. For more on food choices after bariatric surgery, see my recent blog post. Food journaling: Many studies show that people who track their food intake lose more weight. Why? Education and accountability. The new online food journals are great because you can enter the foods you eat on your phone quickly and easily over the course of your day, and you can see the nutritional content of your diet – calories, fat, protein, sugar, etc. Bad choices quickly become very obvious. If you haven’t ever used one of these online food journals, give it a try. I would recommend My Fitness Pal. Behavior Modification: To change behaviors we discussed: 1) Control home environment Eliminate problem foods from house, etc 2) Control work environment Bring lunch, chew gum/drink water to prevent snacking, etc 3) Control meal time environment Sit at table, serve portion away from table to make getting second portion more difficult 4) Daily food management Small plates/utensils, etc 5) Shopping Don’t shop when hungry, only buy what is on list, etc 6) Preparation Chew gum when preparing to discourage snacking, etc 7) Eating Put utensil down between bites, etc “I can eat too much” This is a common complaint. We discussed that the purpose of surgery is not to make it so you can’t eat too much. The purpose of surgery is to make it so you can eat less but still feel satisfied. -

LOL, Gypsy! There are many many people who claim to be who they are not. It is a shame really. Like the Bible says, "you will know them by their fruits"..... And I am and expert fruit inspector, ha ha ha. -

Gypsy- I have to agree with Green. I used to go to a pentacostal church when I first became a Christian and they were sooo strict. We could not dance, drink, listen to any type of secular music etc. Some people forget that we have freedom in Christ to do these things and we are not going to go to hell for taking a salsa dancing class or having a drink here and there!!. And, she probably saw that you were looking all hot -like and was seething with the thought of you shaking your groove thing "in a bar" in front of her son. As a Christian, if someone offends you, you go to that person (in love) and get down to the bottom of things. Remember Romans 12:18- If possible so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Yes the EASY thing to do is say "screw her" but If you are going to have to interact with her on a regular basis, I personally would try to have a sit down. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION, no one better give me any crap, LOL!!! -

NO Teatimed, not at all. It is worse!! I get scared that it is going to all fall out. When I comb my hair and wash it gobs fall out. I have pretty thick hair and I only notice a little on the part and no one else notices but it has to stop soon or I will have to get that spray on stuff, ha ha. -

TEATIMED- We had surgery the same day and YES. I have tons of hairloss. There are so many different views on why we actually lose hair, but my Dr,. said it is going to happen regardless of protein, no protein, biotin, vitamins etc. But then my nutritionis has the opposite opinion. My hair lady said it was from the anesthesia so who know! LOL -

I am at 4 months as of the 24th of Jnauary. I have slowed WAY down on weight loss and even gained 3 pounds this week. I am eating way too many carbs because they go down so easy and do not upset my stomach as much. I noticed I can eat so much more now too. -

NGMA!!!! I have to tell you this, It is hilarious! Last week I was bragging to you that I have NEVER got Jury Duty etc.etc. and guess what I got in the mail today???? I could not believe it, I was floored. Had to share with you. MOM123- I have some major hair loss going as well and I process and curl and blow dry my hair. There is an AWESOME conditioner at Sallys, you can get it online if you do not have a Sallys. It is called Natures Therapy Mega Moisture Nurturing Cream. I LOVE it. It does not leave my hair greasy and it is so silky and really targets the split ends. Wont do much for hairloss though. -

RYBECCA- U look great!! I see the treadmill in the background, good for you! FOR ME- 30 pounds to goal??? That is so awesome. Congrats. NGMA- You go girl! I am still waiting for someone to hit on me, lol. My hubby wont leave me alone, but that doesnt count cause he has always been a horndog with me fat or thin. And I dont know why I am not ever called to do Jury Duty. They must know me, ha ha. ARTSONG- Sounds like you have a plan! Do you find it hard counting the caories because the quanities? Like, one bite equals X amount of calories?? Thats why I stopped MFP because the count was never accurate. MOM123- I always love when I go number 2. I feel skinner every time, ha ha. GREEN- Whattup?? How you doing girl? -

NGMA- I was so happy that I hit 16. (I still am a 16) Now I am sick of being a 16! My goal is a 12, I think it is a perfect size. Would you believe I am almost 40 years old and I have never had jury duty??? -

I have not flown since the surgery but that has cross my mind. It is always embarrassing when the detector goes off and you have to do the search. -

Pcos is poly cystic ovarian syndrome. It is a hormonal/metabolic issue women have. The signs are no period, hair loss, facial hair growth, weight gain and other wonderful things. One of the issues is it is really hard to lose weight even with weight loss surgery. They recommend a very low carb diet with this because the way we break down sugar is like that of a diabetic. Metformin is a medication that we take to help with the symptoms. The dr says that as we lose weight the symptoms improve but nothing has changed here for me. I have not had my period since my daughter was born in October of 2010! Almost 2 1/2 years. If you have any of these symptoms it might behoove you to get it checked out! GREEN- I am on 1000 mg right now. My surgeon said Ido t have to take it but my obgyn told me to continue taking it. Who do I listen to?? -

SCARED- Do you know if you have thyroid issues or PCOS? I have PCOS and it is very difficult for me to lose weight. I am on Metformin and I think that has helped a little. Dont be discouraged. Maybe you are not eating enough calories? -

Green- Thank you sooo much! I do well all week when I am at work and then on the weekend when I am home, I graze. Darn Goldfish Crackers!! LOL, I do want it so bad. I repented today and had only my protein shake, water, and a small spinach salad. I wish someone lived by me and we could go walk together.
