    Losing Without Protein Drinks?

I had my post-op with the surgeon today (I will be 3 weeks out tomorrow.) He said I could completely quit drinking Protein when I could get 60 grams of protein in a day through food sources. I've been tracking my food on myfitnesspal and today I have had 555 calories and 52 grams of protein so far! I haven't added the partial piece of Tilapia for dinner and I hope it puts me over 60! If not, will eat a piece of cheese later. Eating all protein like this certainly leaves no space or time for anything else, but the "protein first" rule has been drilled into my head for a year so not concerned. My Vitamins should cover everything else.
  2. Try not to be mad at yourself, it happens to everyone. Tomorrow is another day. Just think of how much you could have fit in before the sleeve! You're doing great, this isn't a deal breaker.

    Post -Op Pantry Staples?

Great idea! I haven't gotten to finish anything while still warm since surgery.

    Post -Op Pantry Staples?

Gas-X strips, bottled water, Crystal Light. Everything else I bought is still filling the cabinets, fridge, and freezer. I seriously over estimated how much food I would need. Even with two teen aged boys in the house, I still have sf pudding, sf jello, and sf popsicles. Never did touch any canned soup.

    Chewable Vitamins!

I also had my surgery on 4/3 and I hate chewable vitamins! My nutritionist said I have to have chewable for 2 months, but not sure why since I was cleared to take other pills the day after surgery. My surgeon just told me to take all my pre-surgery pills like I had been doing. They even gave them to me in the hospital. I'm not sure why vitamins can't be pills too.

Not Wls Related But I Need Opinions...

I don't think it's rude at all, especially since they didn't have a wedding. I, for one, would rather have a registry to pick from instead of trying to randomly pick a gift for someone.
  7. Some contact information for an excellent children's hospital. Will be praying for this child. International Center Children's Hospital Boston Pavilion Building, Room 119 300 Longwood Avenue Boston, MA 02115 USA Telephone: 01-617-355-5209 Fax: 01-617-730-0627 E-Mail: international.center@childrens.harvard.edu
  8. I can even still fit into my original clothes! I don't remember it being like this on the way up. I remember all my clothes getting tighter as I went up from size to size. I see threads where people have lost 50 pounds or less and have shrunk up to 5 clothing sizes. Not me, I feel like I am destined to be fat regardless of how much weight I actually lose. This is so depressing.

Want Opinions Plz - Full Fat Vs Low Fat

I can't eat salads yet, but when I can I will use regular salad dressing. My sleeve can only hold such a teeny, tiny bit of food that I hardly think it matters. I love salads and have tried to picture how eating them again is going to work. Thinking of an entire plate of salad, like I used to eat, is just downright comical. A shot glass of salad is much more realistic at this point. Mayo is never on my menu, I can't stand the stuff and even eat tuna dry. I do follow the Protein first rule and eat whatever I want. I guess there may come a day when I can fit more in my sleeve than just protein, but for now, I just pick yummy protein sources and don't bother counting calories.

    Can't Stop Eating

I will be praying for you. I know you can get back on track. You are obviously a very strong individual to have lost a child and moved forward with your life. There is nothing worse in life than what you've already been through. Everything else is a piece of cake. You got this!!

    Eating Myself To Death

I had "last meal syndrome" for a week before starting my pre-op diet. I ate pretty much anything I wanted and have no regrets. Thankfully, I didn't gain any weight since I spread the insanity out over a whole week. I had already given up sodas as of 10/30/11. That's a lifetime commitment that I didn't back track on. Everything else it was open season on. By the time I started my two week liquid diet, I was ready to do it and sick of the food orgy. Besides soda, the only things I feel like I will never be able to eat again are Pasta and bread. I don't like pasta anyway so that's not a problem. I do love bread, but don't see how it's ever possible to fit it in my sleeve.

    Dr.morris Washington's Crew

I'm not a Dr. Washington patient, but thought I would drop in to respond to this. I couldn't handle sf stuff either. Turns out it was the sucralose (splenda) that is in just about everything you are allowed to eat/drink on the liquid diet. The sf Jello, sf pudding, sf popsicles, sf sherbet, and even MiO drops for your water! The only Water flavors I have found that don't have sucralose are Crystal Light and usually the generic store brand equivalent. There are two brands of Protein without that (that I know of) and they are Jay Robb and About Time. Hope that helps a little. Good luck to you!

    From Morbidly Obese To Overweight!

My Wii lets you play up to 330 lbs. When I weighed more than that, I put a piece of foam under the balance board and it would weigh me much less. Edited to add: The balance board itself has a 600 lb weight limit so it's stupid that you have to be half that to play.

    Moving To New Foods?

I started soft foods on Day 5. I'm two weeks out now and eat most things, I just chew them up until they are very soft. The only things I won't eat yet are bread, Pasta, fresh fruit and vegetables, and of course junk food. My early eating started over desperation to get some Protein in because I won't drink the shakes. I'm careful and never eat more than a tablespoon of food at one time. Just praying I don't cause a leak.
  16. This is interesting to me because my surgeon told me that's it's next to impossible to stretch a properly constructed sleeve. He told me all the stretchy part of the stomach is removed and the sleeve is made up of the part of the stomach that doesn't stretch. I don't remember any of the proper names of the stretchy and non-stretchy parts even though he told me. He also told me that in the case of gastric bypass, stretching is much more likely because the pouch is made up using some of the stretchy part of the stomach as well as the non-stretchy part.
  17. I felt hungry until the 5th or 6th day. Since then, I haven't had any desire for food and just remind myself when I need to eat. My theory is residual hunger hormone (ghrelin)left in my system but that is only a guess.

    Defeated?

That's 22 pounds less than you weighed a month ago! If you averaged that for six months it would be a 132 loss. Every pound I lose, I Celebrate that I didn't stay the same or gain. We are heading the right direction now. I would love to see a change in myself faster as well but at least we know that this weight loss is not temporary, it's gone forever. Hope you are feeling better soon!
  19. I drove and did LIGHT housework at Day 5. I was told not to do any lifting of anything more than 5 pounds until cleared by the surgeon. My first post-op appointment is at Day 20 so it will be at least until then. The only kind of exercise I was told I could do is walk.

    Losing Without Protein Drinks?

I have post-op education tomorrow and will be asking about it for sure. I'm afraid to tell her that I am not doing any Protein drinks at all. I'm also going to take a protein shot with me and ask what she thinks about it. If I find out that my heart could be endanger without the protein, I will choke it down regardless of how miserable it is. I just never thought I would have to "force feed" myself anything to lose weight. For the first time in my life, I would be happiest if I could just survive on flavored Water.

    Losing Without Protein Drinks?

Losing hair is fine with me since I have enough for three people anyway. I would love for my hair to thin out some! Glad to hear you are doing okay otherwise without shakes. I am going to the store today with a list of high protein foods. I am going to try to plan my diet to meet my minimum of 60 grams per day. I'm not sure it's possible, but going to get as much as I can. I know there are varying opinions on protein shots, but I am going to get a few of them to try anyway. I think I could handle that small amount just by pretending it's medicine. Going to take it with one of my protein "meals" to help absorption. Would a person's body choose to burn muscle when so much fat is available? That is something I've been wondering about even before you posted. I would think that muscle would be a last resort when there is little or no fat to burn.
  22. I'm going to be out shopping tomorrow so I think I will try on some sizes I can't usually fit into and see what happens. All of my current clothes do have elastic. Caradina, my hands/wrists and ankles/feet are already thin for my body size. I only wear a size 6 ring and can fit children's bracelets and watches. I also wear narrow shoes. I can't imagine those will change much since I wore the same size ring when I weighed 200 pounds less. I'm a freak of nature.
  23. Thanks. After I posted, I started wondering if that's even what you were talking about. My surgery date should show on my profile. Because of my high BMI, I was required to lose weight prior to getting my surgery date. Then, I was on a 2-week-liquid diet pre-op diet. Since surgery, I have lost 17 pounds. I had lost a nice round 50 pounds as of my surgery day. It still totals 67 pounds and I really wish it felt more like it. It's very hard watching people that are just starting out and only have that much, or a little more, to lose. It makes me wonder how I let myself get to this point. Thankful it's heading in the other direction now at least.
  24. Yes, I had my surgery on 4/3/12. I started losing on the pre-op diet.
  25. Thanks everyone! My clothes do feel looser, but I can still wear them. Other than that, I don't feel or look any different. My family says it looks like I have lost. I just honestly cannot see it no matter how hard I try. I feel like my original fat self and can't wait until I see some change in myself. I had a very high starting weight. So high that I don't even want to share it. I guess when you start that big it takes more pounds to notice a change. I won't give up, I just needed a pep talk.
