Lap Band Users Switching To Sleeve
herewegoagain replied to lmitchell40*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band was placed slightly high. I couldn't tolerate fills, very many foods and vomited frequently. Then, it slipped and was on the esophagus. The esophagus was almost eroded when they surgically removed the band. It was removed one year ago. My VSG is scheduled for 6/27/12. Good luck ! -
Me too. Banded 2005. Removed 2011. Sched for VSG 6/27. Hope all of us revisions do great this time around!

Passed the psych eval with flying colors. Now we are on the home stretch. Does anyone know if Kaiser requires a bowel prep? Thanks. VSG on 6-27. -
Just Got Back From The Doctors Office

Congrats and good luck. I am waiting for my psyche visit. It is in 2 mins. I am scheduled for 6-27. Last thing before pre-op visit, liquids and surgery. Yay! -
June 27th, kaiser, south bay- so excited. Mine is a revision from a slipped band one year ago. Longest year of my life!????

I was banded in 05 and it slipped. I had it removed one year ago June, and my surgeon would not do the VSG for one year. I am now scheduled for surgery on 6/27/12. I was really down when they told me I had to wait a year. I started gaining after the fluid was taken out initially and have gained. My highest weight was 213 pre band. My lowest weight with lots of vomiting was 134. I was 155 when they removed the band. I am now 173. I am sick about this but looking forward to June. I am even excited to do the pre op diet because I know it is the path to surgery. As for complications, I am told to follow all the post eating rules exactly to reduce risk of leaks.

Congrats! Your persistence paid off and will help others in the future. I always hand delivered everything to my surgeon's office when I had my lapband in 2005. I always kept a copy. It was amazing how many times they told me they hadn't received what I had delivered. And, I hand delivered it!!! Anyway, now I am having to have the VSG due to a slippage and am currently doing all my pre op labs... x-ray, EKG, blood, stool, 24 hour urine, etc. I know it is a pain, but will be worth it. At least Kaiser has electronic medical records. Once again, congrats! Keep us posted after your surgery. Joyce -
Reactive Hypoglycemia? Might Need A Quick Response Before I Wake Up My Neighbors!
herewegoagain replied to lighteningbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquid Shot is 2 oz of glucose-15 grams carb. Check with your doc. I would pick up a glucose meter from Walmart- Reli-On, if you aren't diabetic and check your glucose when you have symptoms. -

I Might Be "jumping Ship"

My lapband was placed in 05 and slipped. Was removed last June. Lots of food intolerance, vomiting, etc. The VSG will be my third and, I hope, final surgery. I am scheduled for 6/27. Joyce -
I am an RN,CDE, in LA. Would love a site for nurses. I lived in Tempe many moons ago. Will have surg 6-27-12. Had lapband in 2005. It slipped and was removed 6-27-11. Obesity is an epidemic,so of course nurses can and are obese. At least we know the co-mornidities and choose to change the course of our lives! Joyce

What Are The Best Sources Of Healthy Proteins?
herewegoagain replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a lap band in 05. It is off now due to slippage and will have VSG in June. I like Unjury protein chicken broth and the shakes in the can from Trade Joes- Purified Protein. EAS isn't bad but two cans of the 35g protein from Joe's is less to drink and you get your 70 grams protein. Joyce -
I was banded 10/05 and lost 79 lbs. I couldn't tolerate many foods and food was always getting stuck. My surgery was done in Reno. I moved to LA. After three surgical consults and a change in insurance, the fluid was removed. I almost had complete erosion of the esophagus. The band slipped and the pouch was in the esophagus. I would feel severe esophageal spasms. On June 27, 2011, the band was removed. Then, I was told the next surgery couldn't be done for one year. Stated much was learned about band failures and revisions. I am now scheduled for VSG on 6/27/12. What a synchronicity! I am anxious to do this because I have gained 23 pounds so far and had gained significantly after the band fluid was removed. It is sad that we have all had to go thru this but it feels good to know I am not alone. Joyce

My surgery was moved from July 10 to June 27, 2012, exactly one year after my lapband had to be removed! Yay!

I had a lapband placed on Oct. 10, 2005. I lost 80 pounds but found there were always foods I could not tolerate. Foods were always getting stuck, despite following all the rules. I had my surgery in Reno and moved to Los Angeles. I work in the health care field, and we have a bariatric program. I notified our bariatric supervisor that I was vomiting all the time. She sent me to my PCP. She sent me to a surgeon who was intimidated by the UM department. They did an endoscopy and the GI specialist said it slipped. Then, I had an UGI. They said it was just high. I continued to vomit all the time and the surgeon was afraid to challenge the MD in charge of UM. I chose to change medical groups and had another UGI because I knew surgery would never happen at my place of employment. Hindsight is 20/20. I should have insisted they submit it and then appeal. I had a physiological reason for the medical complications and could have qualified for revision. I saw a surgeon who knew to remove the fluid from the band. That stopped the fear that I would choke to death. I was getting ready to have the band removed and have a VSG when Kaiser notified me the doctor could only remove the band. I was told to see another surgeon at Kaiser and on June 24, 2011, I did that. I was 155 pounds instead of the 134 I had gotten down to. He said I had to have surgery that next Monday, but due to my esophagus being so thin with the possibility of erosion, he said the VSG couldn't be done for a year. I had the band removed and was I depressed. I was told I would gain 50 pounds and to be careful with what I ate. I have a surgery date finally, but I got a call on Friday asking me to phone the surgeon's office. Of course, my imagination is running wild. Are they changing the date or are they simply scheduling the pre op visit? I decided to repeat the bariatric classes. I am not learning much, but I figure anything new that I learn is a plus. I keep having to purchase larger clothes, and what I have for casual wear and professional wear for work is no longer fitting. I have feelings of self hate, and I know that is not healthy. Ultimately, I want to be healthy and lean. I know it will happen soon, but the waiting game is a nightmare. There is one other girl in my class that also had to have a band removed. Misery sure does like company. Anyway, that is my surgery of success, failure, and then the hope of future success again. I am glad I found this forum and will visit it frequently. Joyce
