    Newbie :)

Hello Linda, Hope you are able to have the surgery...I was denied by insurance, but decided to self pay...My surgery was $15,000.00, but worth every single penny...I was banded on 4/6/07 and I have lost 27 lbs...I will have my first fill on 5/17/07

    very interested

Tootall, I was a self-pay...it cost 15,000.00 in Texarkana, Tx... The pain is not bad at all...you are really just sore....I agree with Edie, I was uncomfortable when I had to bend down....other than that it is not that bad...plus, you have some meds to take care of the discomfort...I also had a hernia repaired, so I had a little of discomfort from that....it is not a hard surgery to get thru...you will be up and going the same day...you will need to walk around the house the first day to get rid of the gas....they blow your stomach up with gas to be able to do the surgery...after the surgery you will feel the gas up in your chest and shoulders...mine was in my neck...that was not that bad....just walk and take the liquid gas-x and you will be fine...good luck to you..I hope that all goes well for you....

    I've lost 12 pounds!

Jen, That is great...and it is a lot....every single pound puts you closer to your goal....and isn't it great to be able to look forward to stepping on the scales?..I have always dreaded those numbers, until the band...now I look forward to weighing.....thanks for sharing your numbers with us....

    Any vegetarians out there?

I am not a vegetarian, but I can appreciate how annoying that must be to be asked such a question.... I hope you hear from your insurance company soon...that would be great...I was denied by insurance company, but went ahead and did the self-pay...I am so glad that I did....I couldn't be happier...been banded one month tomorrow...

    I need a pep talk

You have lost 107 lbs in 12 weeks and you don't think the band is working? Honey, you are doing great....I hope I do as well as you...get back to the basics....drink you liquids, don't eat more than 1/2 cup per meal....watch your calories...don't eat things that are empty calories.... i.e. ice cream, cookies, etc ....you will be just fine...and don't compare yourself to others, and don't let anyone else compare you to others...all are different....and everyone will lose at a different pace....just focus on yourself....you hang in there...you will be at your goal weight in no time....

  14. Big As Life

    Tanning?

Hey, I see you were banded the day after me...that is great...I am doing pretty good...the weight has slowly quit coming off...I was a bit concerned, but the doctor says not to worry about weight loss until your first fill...that will be on the 17th of May...I look forward to that...I really don't get all that hungry...I drink lots of de-caf tea..and water...I don't drink enough and I don't think I am eating enough calories, but I am going to stick to this for a while.....

    Hello I'm a newbie

oh, I forgot to say...I had acid reflux so bad...once they got in to band me, they found a hernia...the doctor said that was what was causing the reflux....she repaired the hernia while doing the lapband and I have not had reflux anymore...so nice to not have to take pepcid ac......

    Hello I'm a newbie

Robbie, I think that everyone here knows exactly how you feel...I couldn't wait to have the band put on, but I was so nervous...The surgery was a breeze...I did have a few days of being uncomfortable, but that soon passed...I am four weeks out and feeling really good....I am so glad that I had the band put on....I would do it again, tomorrow...

    Hi, I am new!

Welcome to the group...Don't you just live this site? I come here everyday...I did not know about the site until after I had been banded....I wish I would have known about it, before the surgery....there are so many great post that really does ease your mind about the banding....The people here are so kind and generous with the info...

    How much time off work?

I had my surgery on Friday and I was able to work on the following Friday...still a bit sore, but I have a desk job...I wouldn't have been able to do a job that is physical...no lifting anything over 20 lbs for the first 2 weeks...I probably would have been able to go back to work sooner, but I took meds for several days...I had a hernia repaired at the same time I had the lapband and had some pain in my back...

    New and Hopeful

I just felt for me, that lapband was the way to go...I really checked out the gastric bypass, and I was just to afraid to go that direction..I really wanted the less invasive surgery...so glad I got the band....

    Nervous as anything

Congratulations on your decision to have lapband...I feel it is the best thing I have ever done for myself...I would do it again ....good luck...I hope all works out for you...
  21. Does anyone ever feel like their stomach is having a spasm? It feels like it is rolling....I hope my band is not trying to slip...I only have this at night when I lay down to go to sleep...it wakes me up.... Anyone else having this ????
  22. Big As Life

    Stomach spasm?

Just read a post from the similar thread, and I think I have my answer....the stomach is a muscle that is expanding and shrinking...I think that my stomach is shrinking...and that is the feeling that I am having...
  23. Big As Life

    Stomach Hernia

While being banded, the doctor found a hernia...repaired it while doing the banding...no problem...she said I got a two for one....
  24. No, I would not think it is safe to drive yourself home...You do need someone with you....after being put under you are still kinda groggy and really do not need to drive..
  25. mine is quit drinking 30 minutes before eating, and no drinking for at least one hour after eating...it takes some getting use to, but I don't really have a problem with this...
