I've never had sushi but I'd love to try it!!! I love seafood, so I'd probably like it.
-
Ditto to what everyone else has said. May you find peace in this difficult but joyous time.

My doctor said that I could eat my 3 meals each day plus 2 small Snacks if I needed them. I was told what a snack size was though, and it's basically enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Not a meal size snack (like I ate before I was banded). I hope this helps some. I basically try to pay attention to my body though. If I'm not hungry I don't eat. Before I got banded if I was offered food, I'd eat it no matter if I was hungry or not. Now I can go to my mom's and have her offer me something, and if I'm not hungry it's easy to say no. Thank the Lord for my band!

That poor dear!!! Thank the Lord that she is going to be ok now!!! Thank you for letting us know!

How interesting and what a wonderful opportunity! I agree with the others though, please be VERY careful and come back to us unharmed!

Very neat! I'm so glad that you asked!

Been banded for 7 months, never have had a fill and bread isn't a problem. I don't desire it like I used to, and usually if I do eat "bread" it's in the form of a tortilla to wrap chicken up with, with a little sauce on it. The things I DO have to watch out for though? Scrambled eggs, crackers, and eating anything drier too fast. Those things can get stuck waaaay too easily.

That is wonderful news Mary!!!

Oh yes! I belonged to that adoptive breastfeeding site while researching to relactate for Dylan! I may have even spoken to you at one time or another Jane! How cool is that!!! Such a small internet world it is!

I just prayed for her Mary!

I'm so glad that she was able to give you at least a little help. She is right about the FDA and them not wanting us to use natural/holistic/herbal type remedies instead of the FDA approved drugs. It just means that they don't get the money from it. While I lactated for Dylan I was using the Domperidone plus Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle. But bare in mind that I was starting from no milk supply and building it up to a full one. I basically had to trick my body into thinking that it was pregnant/had new baby again. I believe that if you used the Domperidone, that that would be enough to help keep your already established supply built up for you. I honestly don't think that you'd need the Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle. Another thing that helped keep my supply up was tea. I know that while nursing we aren't supposed to have caffeine, so you'd want to go with the decaffinated kind. (They have some yummy flavored hot teas that I brew and then let cool off and drink iced. That's a nice alternative to the plain if you get bored with it.) Also drinking milk helps, but not too much or baby can develop an allery to cow's milk. (Dylan had this from me drinking too much milk while nursing the first time around. He needed the soy formula, which bound him up, and was the reason why I relactated for him!) I agree about drinking a lot of Protein too. Isopure Protein Powder comes in different flavors, and offers 50 grams of protein per serving. You can find it at any GNC store, and also online too. I'd also make sure that you have a good pump with you to help keep supply up as well. I rented one from our local hospital health store, and it was an industrial grade one. I think that since you already have a supply built up though, you can probably get by with just a regular good sturdy pump. (Whisper Wear are famed to be wonderful!) Best of luck to you! I know that you can do this, and you'll be so proud of yourself in the end for sticking to it! I'm proud of you and I barely know you! LOL Please holler at me anytime if you need additional help. You are a true inspiration!!!

I haven't tried it yet, but I went to Walmart and scoped all of the sunless tanners out and I'll be getting the Coppertone gradual tan lotion. I hope to get it this week. Since I'm so fair, the medium ones won't work well on me. I know they'd look really fake. That's why I figured I could get the gradual one, and go as dark as I wanted to, just to make it look natural. Good luck to you! P.S. You can use this one on your face too! Mega selling point for me! Only $6.99 at Walmart too!

You know....I don't know what it is with some of these doctors and or their office help. Sometimes they can be so difficult to work with and so rude! I recently had 2 separate family doctors not want to give me a much needed referral to a Rheumatologist simply because they didn't think one elevated blood level warranted such a visit, and then proceeded to say that THEY wanted to do the testing on me. Not only did I give them a big hell no, I also went out on my own and found a recommended Rheumatologist who will see me without a referral. So Plllluuuuuubbbbt to them! I would say that if this is bothering you this much, then you certainly either need to speak with the person in charge, or the doctor himself. If nothing is done from there, then I'd be finding a new surgeon. Like you said, you're the paying customer/patient here, and it's no skin off of your nose to have to take your business somewhere else. You go girl!!!!

Yes, just as Jane said the Reglan that some doctors recommend can cause major side effects, so I chose not to go that route. The Domperidone does have a warning on it, but just like Jane said, those test studies were used with major higher doses than what you would use to aid in lactation. Also true what she said about the government not wanting people to use non FDA approved drugs. God forbid they miss out on some money! LOL Seriously though.......I thoroughly researched this drug before relactating for Dylan. There was no way that I wanted him getting major drugs in him that would screw him up. If you read and really research it, you will find that the small amount you would need will not give the baby ANY side effects what-so-ever, and the only side effect you may have is a headache. And if you happen to get a headache from it, you just back off on your dosage a bit and that won't happen again. (I had it happen once and I backed off the dosage slightly and I never had that problem after.) You can order online at this link: http://www.globaldrug.tv/category.asp?CtgID=1003 This is the cheapest place online. And just so you don't get confused, Motillium is the generic name for Domperidone. If you decide not to do it, then that's fine too. It's your child and your body. I just know how much it helped me, and I KNOW that I couldn't have kept my supply up without it. Good luck to you in whatever you do!

Congratulations!!!

I'm so excited for you that you are going to try to continue to nurse through surgery! Major props to you! I would seriously consider getting some Domperidone. I had to order mine online but it REALLY helped in getting my milk supply going, and keeping it sustained while pumping religiously and relatcting for my son. Good luck, and if you have additional questions don't hesitate to ask.

Jane - Thank you so much for all of the information! I was a puker too while PG with Dylan. 7 times in the morning was nothing for me. I actually had to get a guarantee from my OB that he would prescribe me some Phenergen when we start trying again because I threw up so much. And as we all know, that's not a good thing with the band. I am going to copy and paste the info in this thread, with your permission. I want to make sure that I do the nursing thing right next time around. I had many complications and could only nurse Dylan to 7 weeks the first time around, but would've liked to go longer. Those problems have been corrected, so next time around I'd like to try to go to 1 year, using Adiri nursers when I can't be here (when hubby watches baby while I make a quick run to the store or something). Anyway....thanks again for the info. I really want to make a go of it next time around, and am gathering any and all info. that will be pertanent to my situation now that I'm a bandster. Have a fantastical kind of day! ~Kelly

I have to agree with Kathy. I too am looking forward to the day when I can have another child. I plan on having NO fill in my band when I get pregnant, and then keeping it that way all through pregnancy, and also while I nurse. I nursed my first child through the first 7 weeks and know what a wonderful bonding experience it was, and plan on doing it again with the next one. Good luck to you, and please let us know what you find out. I really hadn't thought of the calorie question to keep milk supply up (good question!). P.S. Good suggestions Kathy! I would think that the Isopure Protein drinks would be a wonderful low fat, high protein addition to any nursing mother's regime (they offer 100 or 200 calories per serving too), along with Domperidone and or Mother's Milk/Tiger's Milk tea. I relactated for Dylan when he was 6 months because the formula was binding him up so badly, and I used the Domperidone to up my supply. It worked wonders!

Please look at the top of this board in the sticky list. There you will find a thread about "Comparing All Weightloss Surgeries". I hope that that can help you out some and give you some answers. If you have more questions - feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help!
