Not Sure Where To Post?
DinaMiller6450 replied to Solo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very hard for me to tell if my husband is with me or against me. He said that he would pay for the surgery. But I think he has reservations. I'm not sure if he even wants to be there the day of the surgery, and to be honest I'm not sure I want him to be there. I would rather wait till after 2 weeks post-op. He works offshore, so I have been thinking about scheduling while he is offshore for his 2 weeks. He seems to be worried that something might happen to me during or after the surgery. I have given him all the facts. The facts of what could happen if I DO NOT HAVE THE SURGERY. I think he understands. I think he will come around after all is said and done. I do have support from my daughter who will be 18 on the 29th. She is amazing. She wants to stay with me at the hospital and she will drive me home. I just hope that my husband comes around because I'm not changing my mind. I am tired of feeling bad everyday. I'm tired of my back and legs hurting everyday. I want to be healthy and happy again. I know I can do this. I will do this!!!!!!!!! I will lose the Weight!!!!!! -

First Appointment With The Surgeon
DinaMiller6450 replied to DinaMiller6450's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@ Shaniceh01 My insurance doesn't require the 6 months supervised diet. My next step is the psych eval and then the nutritionist eval. From there it goes to the insurance for approval. They are trying to get it all in so that I can have my surgery before my daughter graduates, which is May 18th. What insurance co. do u have? It depend on what your insurance requires. Good luck with your appointment. -

I have BCBS of TX. My handbook states the following: Benefits for Morbid Obesity Benefits for Eligible Expenses incurred by Participant for the Medically Necessary treatment of Morbid Obesity will be provided on the same basis as for any other sickness. This is all it say about Morbid Obesity. Do you think I will have to go through the 6 months of supervised diet. I hope not. I am so ready to have this surgery. I am so ready to be healthy. Anyone else have BCBS of Texas? If so, any information you could share would be appreciated. Thanks Dina

Bcbs Insurance Changes Re 6 Month Diet
DinaMiller6450 replied to fattymcfatterson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for the information. I have BCBS TX and I have been wondering about this.. I have read my policy over and over and all it said was that it would be treated like any other surgery. I just started my journey. I see my surgeon, Dr. Avera from Ocean Springs, MS, on Friday for the first time. I am quite nervous and exited at the same time. Your information is quite helpful to me and I thank you for sharing. Good luck! -

My insurance is a PPO. Thanks for the information. Hopefully I won't have to do the 6th months supervised diet. But I will do whatever it takes. I just need to learn to be patient. -
Hello everyone my name is Dina. I am a newbie. I have been reading all of your post for about a month now, trying to get an idea of what I am about to go through. My journey began March 6th. I went to an info session. I gave them my insurance information and the next day they called me to tell me that I an covered for the surgery. I have my first appointment with my surgeon and the nutritionist on the 30th. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I'm not sure if I will have to go through the 6 months of supervised diet. She didn't say anything about it and I was so excited I forgot to ask. So can anyone tell me what the process is and how long it takes? I have so many questions, but I'll save them for along the way. What happens during the first visit with the surgeon and with the nutritionist? My Dr. is Dr. Avera in Ocean Springs, MS.

Yes I have been to the orientation meeting. I gave them my insurance information and the next day Valorie called saying that my insurance does cover the surgery. She also gave me the information on how much I will need out of pocket. I have my first appointment with Dr. Avera and the nutritionist on next Friday the 30th. I am super excited and nervous at the same time. I don't think I will have to do the 6 month supervised diet. At least I hope I don't. I am so ready to have this surgery and begin my new life. From there, Valorie said they will make me a psyc evaluation appointment. I am really nervous about that. I am not really good at talking about my feeling with a stranger and wondering what kind of questions they will ask. I am not really afraid of any of the other test. I have always had a problem with my weight since I was a child. I think for me it began at the age of 10. I was always bigger than the other kids my age. I have always tried different diets. I would loose 20 to 30 pounds just to put it back on again. I know this is not an easy way out and that is not what I am looking for. I am just looking for that little bit of help that really works. I am super excited about my new journey and can't wait to get started. Thanks for the insight on Dr. Avera. From the information we received during our orientation session, he seems like a great surgeon. -

What kind of questions does the therapist ask during the evaluation? Just want to be prepared. What kind of questions does the therapist ask during the evaluation? Just want to be prepared.
