Stephie: I too have PCOS and am overweight. My endocrinologist told me that some type of gastric procedure would be best for me because of the problems that PCOS brings on with hormone levels, over production of insulin, etc. etc. all of the things you know it causes. I am in the process of getting approved for the lap band myself and wish I had years ago. You will be able to get pregnant with PCOS (I have two precious children that are proof of it) but in my attempt to get pregnant with my first one I was on prednisone and packed 70 lbs on in one month. It was successful since I was able to get pregnant that month but that 70 lbs I've never lost. Don't give up the fight, you can do it and will come out glowing in the end. I'm not sure what the kg to lb ratio is but I can understand where you are...my weight is not anywhere near where I would like it to be but with the help and assistance of the band I know I will be able to. hang in there and at the early age of 23 you have plenty of time to find that man of your dreams. I found mine at 27....and am as happy as can be!!! I want to get my weight off now to be healthy and to watch my kids grow and see grandkids come in to this world. With PCOS you and I both know you can do all sorts of things and you just feel like you are spinning your wheels. I worked out at a gym 3 days a week with a personal trainer for 6 months and never lost.....ever since then I just had given up...and when my internist mentioned Lap Banding I had never researched it...so in a matter of two weeks of researching I know it is what I need to do!!! Good luck and let us know how it all goes!!!! Keep your chin up!!!!

I would come join tonight but I'll be at my "Orientation" meeting for the Lap Band procedure. It's from 4 to 6:00 or 6:30 I can't remember....so my husband will have fun with the kids at home. <Grin> How many people usually show up for your get togethers? -

Hi BetsyJane: I work for Baylor College of Medicine and one we have a few surgeons that do the Roux en y and the Lap Band. Vadim Sherman, MD is the one that specializes in the Lap Band and Dr. John Sweeney does in the Roux en y. I use to work for them and have seen the work they do and their outcomes are very impressive so that's who will be doing mine. It helps when you know the physician and / or work in the medical field. I know Dr. Spivak is probably the one that does the most work in Houston and I see his name listed a lot with different people as their surgeon so I would imagine he is a wonderful physician as well. I have a LOT to lose so I'm anxoius to get started on the whole process. I have PCOS and had to take Prednisone to get pregnant with my son and I was already over weight then and the month I took the Prednisone I gained like 60 or 70 lbs so that just packed it on and of course I've never lost it and then gained more when I got pregnant with my duahgter.....so I have at least 170 to loose. Has it been hard for any of you to follow the post op diet? The chewing until food is pulverized I would imagine takes some getting use too, but it's smething I'm definetely not dreading. Anything to get the weight off!!!!! -

Mommytokk: I live in the Houston area....on the NE Side near Crosby. I am going in for my orientation on Wednesday and am excited about it. I have BC/BS and the plan I have requires taht I have a 6 month physician supervised diet before they will approve me so I have to do that before I can get banded so I'm hoping by the end of the year I'll be joining the club. It's neat to find people in the same part of the country as myself on here!!! Good luck and best wishes!!!! Terry: I hope I do as well as you in such a short time. I have a lot to get off so I'm ready to get started!!!! Keep up the good work!!!! -

Hi everyone: I am brand new to the site (This is my first post) and I am going to an informational session in the Med Center for band and Roux-en-y tomorrow night. I work have worked for surgeons for 15 years and just never made a decision to have anything done beecause I didn't want to do anything so extreme as the Roux-en-y procedure. I was so excited when I learned about the lap band procedure. I have BC/BS and so I have to start the 6 month diet before they will pay for it but I am so excited. I live in the Crosby area and drive to the med center every day for work (Crazy, huh?). LOL I am 32, am married to a wonderful man and have 2 kids, a son that is 3 1/2 and a 9 month old daughter. I am so ready to start on this road to getting thinner. I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I am excited there is a group in our area that meets for support, etc. since that will be so key in keeping on the straight and narrow. <Grin>
