    Leak 4Ever?!

Ignore radiology. Treatment is not their job. Call your surgeon. There is no reason for you to have a "lifelong" leak.
  2. Not all doctors are created equal. Just because they are educated does not mean they don't react like most people when they don't understand something. She sounds like she is quoting 20/20 from 1984. Some people absolutely refuse to accept change. Sounds like you need a more open minded pcp.

    Does Anyone Else Miss Eating?

Thank you all for the honesty. These are the types of things that it is recommended we see a psychologist for. We spent a majority of our lives with dysfuntional eating patterns. The surgeons work on our bodies, not our brains. Keep up the good work everyone!
  4. Got to tell you, I really didn't expect it to suck quite this much. I was okay days one and two, but here I am on day three and my stomach won't stop growling. I'm having my protein drinks plus an additional 100 plus oz of fluid every day. My first day was thrown off because I found out that my chewable vitamin has 1g of carbs. Flintstones has 3 per pill so watch out if you are using those. I had to redo my whole plan for the day because I already had planned out the max of 30 carbs. Beef broth makes me feel like I am getting something I want and I have been plowing through that stuff. Also, loving the Jello. I think whats bothering me the most about today is that my brain is starting to feel fuzzy from extreme lack of carbs. Took me 40 minutes to pay bills today instead of 10. I feel like I can't form a coherent sentence half the time. I know it is just going to get worse too. I have been sleeping a lot of my liquid diet time away. I have to take muscle relaxers for a problem in my back and with no food in my stomach I go into auto nap mode within 30 minutes of having taken my pill. I know this is going to get better and not worse. I just needed to whine. Anyone have a particular food they couldn't get out of their head? I'm really not thinking about anything but avocados. lol I guess that could be a heck of a lot worse!
  5. You can read the forum we have in the research and statistics section called Gherlin and learning. I think in the past year we have completely covered the "surgery makes you slow" debate fairly well. Also, there are quite a number of people who develop depression after this surgery. This is best combated by starting to see a psychologist and continuing for a bit post op. Its hard to change habits that we have all spent a life time developing. There are often deep seated reasons we learned to react with food. Those issues could come up again when you no longer have food to comfort you. However, most of the people on here LOVE their sleeve. You will probably also find that the people on this site skew the statistics a bit because they have made sure they have a solid support system around them. This is extremely important. I chose not to tell my family members or too many other people because I don't want to answer questions or hear the crap that many uninformed people spew from their mouths. I did choose to tell a select few who were concerned at first, but when they realized I had done my homework, they are only supportive. Good luck to you on your decision making! You will find lots of good info and helpful people here.
  6. There isn't a lot to say about this except a DOMINOS AD? Seriously?
  7. All the rest of them are stuff about the surgery, unjury, diabetic cookbook etc. They just kind of flash around and I don't pay much attention to them. Better believe on day 3 of my liquid diet my eye was drawn straight to a dominos ad when it popped. lol
  8. I like the way your mind is going. Nicely done research with halfway reliable sources too! If I would have looked down and saw references to wikipedia, I never would have kept going. lol

    Energy After Vsg

WLS just means weight loss surgery, so VSG fits into that category. My doc told me the other day that I will be exhausted for quite a while after the surgery. He said just watching TV the first few days could wear me out like a marathon would. I have heard people say this lasts a week or two and some say it lasts a month or two. I guess a lot of it is individual body chemistry.
  10. I am not sitting down with my family. My husband is handling dinner and making lunches for my son at school the next day. They don't talk about food in front of me. They understand and support me.
  11. Let me start by saying I was supposed to have my surgery in March. It was moved to April. Had I had it March, I had months of good habits behind me and was ready to go. However, for some reason, when it got moved, I felt the reason to have multiple food funerals. I have been on a terribly unhealthy diet for the past two weeks now. I'm almost acting like I will never see food again. I haven't gained any weight, I am maintaining, but I went back to my old ways of coffee in the am and eating once at night. I even slowed down my water intake (which is strange because I LOVE water and tend to drink a lot of it, its not something I had to learn). Its almost like a stupid teenage rebellion. I don't know what the crap is going on with me mentally. I am going out with my family to have sushi on Saturday night and then Sunday I am starting my liquid diet two days early. Right now, I am sitting and drinking some decaf tea trying to mentally prepare for this. I have been practicing good habits for 6 solid months now, I can't have blown them all in 2 weeks. Its almost like I tried though Now that I have realized this, I can get it back under control. However, I would like to try and figure out what in the world was going on with my brain. I believe for the past two weeks I was actually eating WORSE than I used to. Did anyone else do this? I know it was a mistake and it actually happened to help me learn a few important things Pre-op. Everyone says don't do food funerals. I'm just afraid of how much harder I made my post op life right now. sigh....
  12. ROFL. Best case post op scenario and you are confused. You are cracking me up

    Food Funerals

I did not realize that most of the food funerals are post op. Maybe my definition of them is incorrect. Going to have to check into that. I thought it was when you overdid something preop that you realize you may never enjoy the same way again.
  15. So I meet my surgeon today (who is a cutie pie btw) and after my appointment he sends me in to fill out some paperwork with a secretary. She immediately starts in on "I was going to have the surgery, but I lost 27 lbs on my own soooo" and then begins to tell me it isn't a magic fix. Afterwards, she gave me what I call the "fat talk". This includes things such as, you just need to exercise more along with about 15-20 minutes of dietary advice (which varies from person to person). I stayed cordial because I have heard the "fat talk" more times in my life than I can count. However, my husband started to get really pissed (he has heard me refer to it, but never actually heard it before). On my way home it occurred to me that the only people I have ever gotten that advice from are overweight people. A naturally skinny person has never told me "I just think of it as a lifestyle change, not a diet". I am actually pretty unhappy with her holier than thou attitude, but this was a great example for my husband. He never understood why I told him I didn't really want anyone but a small few to know about my surgery. This would be why. I hope it is the last "fat talk" I ever get. It am a bit tweeked, but I choose to take it as a reminder of one of the multitude of reasons I am getting this surgery done.

    Annoying Secretary

Tried to put posts together and delete this box. No luck

    Annoying Secretary

I will be reporting her after my surgery. The surgeon that I am going to is a little different from the average bariatric surgeon. This is only about 10% of the surgeries he does. I am getting my surgery through military routes, so complaining has to be done through the correct channel. She is just a paper pusher, but I will see my surgeon again next week and will be mentioning her to him as well as filing the correct reports. If you want to get something done as a miltiary wife, yelling and screaming gets no one anywhere. You just have to know the right people I wanted to vent because sometimes the way you need to handle things around here is frustrating, but she is about to have serious problems for acting like a personal dietician. In a way, I really am glad this happened. Don't worry all, it will be effectively handled, it just takes a little while when going through the proper channels. However, as I stated above, my husband always looked confused when I told him about the "fat talk". I wanted him to see it. I am was P.O'ed at her attitude, but I got something out of it and she is going to learn an important lesson before she causes issues with a less assertive person.
  18. Can anyone help me with some ideas for the "Full Liquids" stage? I bought a few cans of tomato and some cheddar cheese cream soup. I also bought some meat baby foods that I "may" be able to handle if I think them with broth of some kind. Can anyone come up with any other ideas? I really don't think I'm going to do so well with the baby food, but I had to have something a bit more savory in case I feel the need for something that isn't a sweet protein drink. I am on the "full liquids" stage for 2 weeks and would appreciate any ideas you guys have.

    Help With Unflavored Protein!

Here is the thing about GNC. If you buy something there and don't like it, take it back. They take everything back. When it comes to these protein formulations that we all have to take, everyone is different in what they think is gross and what they don't. Don't take someone elses word for it. Try it. If you don't like it, take it back. In all likelihood, it won't be amazing. It is dependent on if you feel you can stomach it for a little while. Later, you can add it to things like oatmeal and bring your protein up without ever having to taste it again.
  20. I see logging as a way to retrain our faulty thinking. We never learned how to appropriately count how much we were actually ingesting or we would have been a lot less likely to need surgical intervention. I would keep logging. Eventually, you may not need it every day, but it is important to retrain your thinking. Don't step on the scale every day, but take your measurements and keep logging. In my case, I cannot trust myself without my log. Many days I chose not to log and realized I had gone a couple hundred calories over. Just keep up the good work! You will get back to losing soon

    CORPUS CHRISTI AREA SLEEVERS?

Hi there, Hasn't been much going on on these boards lately. How is everyone?
  22. Hey, I have a question for the post op people here. I start my 8 day liquid diet on Sunday and my husband wants to have a couple drinks with me on Saturday night. I know I may never really be able to drink again, so would like to do this. I don't want to put my surgery at risk in any way, my understanding is that alcohol is out of your system in 24 hours. Did anyone else do this? Thoughts?
  23. I found out yesterday my surgery date is March 19th and I have already planned 4 meals that I want to have before my liquid diet starts on Monday. How bad is it? The meal I am having tonight is one that I will never have again because it is just filled with carbs and carbonation. Two others are actually not bad for you, I just know I won't be able to have them for a while, so I am going to have my sushi one night and steak another. The final thing is something that I will be having very very rarely because it is a dessert food. Any thoughts on this? I just know it is going to be a long time before I get my sushi and steak again and the last will be so rare I feel like I need to get it in. Did any of you do this? What did you think of doing it after your surgery? Any input I can get would be awesome. Thanks all
  24. I had a friend comment last week that she finally has a reason to just eat the good stuff off a slice of pizza (the toppings). That made me excited. Never in my life have I had an excuse to "waste" a piece of pizza like that. I get to do it with 0 guilt too!
  25. Thanks for the great advice. I love the fact that you gave it a name.
